los - melting into paste consistency ? (noob needs help!)

    hello,

i have been trying various portions with no problems, enjoying some rather then others despite the limited selection being from the *U.K.

*i bought some odens original los to try with my most recent order along with a pris master.

it's very wet, a lot of liquid will seep out when attempting to hand bake and the process seems very difficult indeed, is this normal to have so much moisture ?

i have been resorting to absolutely ramming the pris master full to a point that the only way to remove the snus is to stick a pencil in the opposite end a push it out as the slider is rendered useless, i do get a formed pris this way.

i then position the snus just behind the bump of my K9 tooth as it is comfortable here (as i do with portions); should i be placing it further forward in front of my front teeth instead ?

after about 10/15mins (?) the pris starts "melting" into more of a paste consistency, and has spread out considerably, loosing its shape.

i tried having a cup of coffee one time with negative results, immediate paste, almost akin to peanut butter, are you not supposed to drink whilst using los ?, that would be strange.

i have also been getting very little juice produced by it, when in contact with moisture is when it does start to produce the flavour, but also when it starts turning to mush, what am i doing wrong ?!

    thankyou!

I am pretty sure i know what the problem is. Search for the answer. It takes practice and experimentation.

I've never used a prismaster so I can't relate on how to use it. I use Oden's los from time to time and it is quite moist. With my IceTool it stays together very well. Better than most los snus I use. Try using less in the prismaster and packing it a little tighter. Or just use your hand. Getting some juice in your palm is quite normal, I assure you. Los takes some getting used to as mentioned above. I found the best place in my mouth for los is not the place where I use portions. It is actually farther back. I pop in a prilla and then push on the outside of my lip with my finger to get it back where I like it. Past the the incisor or K9's or whatever the correct term is. Back there it will stay together longer. Try not to smile or talk or drink too much with los. Keep your lip "neutral" and don't smash it.

      Good luck!

            thanks for the reply levinz,

it seems a bit perculiar that you have to be "careful" what with not messing about with it, especially with how nicotine and drinking caffeine / alcohol go together so well,

i thought the moisture content may not be as desirable for retaining shape so thanks for pointing out that it should not be a hinderance.

i'll try with different locations as suggested, thanks for that

often not relevant to the question one was asking, or exceptionally difficult to find related information throughout the volume of results.

thanks for telling me though, i will bare that in mind ...next time

Don't use so much. A Prismaster makes a big pris. If you want to keep using it, remove the plunger, and put it in backward. That'll make a pris that's a bit smaller. Otherwise, I'd suggest an IceTool, cutoff syringe,or just handbaking. It takes time to learn how to control it, and that's a personal matter. Everyone is different, and the subtleties involved are hard to put into text.

thanks for the prismaster tip, the smaller pris seems a lot more manageable.

i have been rather underwhelmed with the lack of "juice" produced vs. portions, is this normal?; i'm not really getting anything?! (as opposed to the idiot proof juicy portions).

It is not that we are not sympathetic, all of us have had to learn a difficult los process. This subject comes up hundreds of times. There have been many great tutorials posted by very patient members here. Just start searching the archives. I have a hangover, and am typing on a freeking tablet, so brevity is needed. I took two weeks and made the mistakes too with los. But I also read all I could before my first noob posts. Good luck.

I have used a prismaster but I prefer to just hillbilly pinch los either way you can't mess with it with your tongue like you can a portion just have to put it under your lip and maybe get a little taste with your tongue occasionally.

After a couple weeks you'll get a nice pocket to form. This helps. Gums be damned!

Use less. Practice. And for fks sake, don't listen to anyone who tells you to limit alcohol or coffee consumption (or tea or water) with los. As you noted, that is damn near the whole point. You will learn. Placement, and pris sizes/shapes/methods are all personal matters unique to the individual and acquired through trial and plenty of error. Good luck, and welcome to snus on. Happy new year too!
