First order here, now the tough decision...

I've been back with snus for a few weeks now (ignore my join date, long story) and I've had to make do with General and an out of date can of Jakobsson's so far. General OP bothers my throat for some reason and I don't really love the General mint, so it's been almost all General white. It's okay, but I've been really looking forward to trying some other kinds. Was saving up to get a bigger order and get the price down to at least $5 a can, but then said screw it, and ordered 17 cans from SnusCentral.

It got here 20 minutes ago. I know 17 cans is not much to long-time snusers, but it's pretty exciting to me, hah.

Here's what I got (all portions):

    Grovsnus Original
    Grovsnus White
    Grovsnus Strong
    Ettan Original
    Ettan White
    Granit Original
    Granit Maxi
    Oden's Original
    Goteborgs Rape Lingon
    Jakobsson's Classic Strong
    Jakobsson's Flader
    Nick & Johnny White Heat
    Skruf Tranbar
    Catch Spearmint Long
    Thunder Frosted Long x2
    Thunder Berry

Now which one do I open first, and how do I keep from opening them all?

Open 5 or so that have different flavor profiles, and take it from there. When you start getting low of one flavor profile, open another similar one, so you can compare them back to back.

I'd open a couple strong, and a couple regular strength snus. During the course of a day, I use strong earlier in the day and then reg. strength intermittently throughout the day.

I opened the Ettan OP first. It seemed fitting. The reviews were right, smells like cocoa powder. Tastes a little like it, too, not sweet, though, just a little salty. It's very nice.

Yeah, I'm hoping to make one of the "regular" flavors and strength my standard use snus. I'll see which I like best out of the Grov, Ettan, Granit, and Oden's.

Then a strong for when I need one. I'm going to try not to go down the extra strong only road.

The Catch and Thunder Longs are for at work.

Then flavors to mix it up some.

        That's the plan anyway...

My loadout is plain lös, bergamot lös, licorice lös, mint portion, and traditional portion. The portions are variable, and I use very few of them, but the lös I consider essential.

Opened the Thunder Frosted Long next. I see why Frosted is so popular. Very moist, flavor and feel hit quickly. Didn't last very long but pretty tasty and satisfying.

Just opened the Jakobsson's Flader. Smells like green apple, but not in a good way. Thankfully, it tastes a lot better than it smells. Just put this in, so we'll see how it goes. Edit: This stuff is great. Just a nice, mild apple-ish flavor, not too sweet.

One day I might try los, err, loose (Chrome on Ubuntu won't let me type the umlaut and accent characters). But to me, loose is too similar to American dip, which I have negative feelings about. It's irrational, I know, but that's the way it is for me.

I'd be interested to see a post re Scruf Tranbar. I plan to try it some day. Of your list I like Ettan original. I buy Los if the flavor comes that way. I make my own size portions in smallest tea bag material. Kinda long and thinner than portions. Saves me money. If one is too salty or too bitter or too strong I can choose to make min portion.

I like several of those: White Heat and Grov OP are two of my favorites!

I find it very comical that in the 18 months or so I have been using snus exclusively I have only tried a few of the flavors you purchased in your first order and I've tried over 50 different flavors lol. Anyway I like the berry somewhat but I found it goes bland much quicker then a lot of other flavors so if you haven't opened that yet when you do use it up fairly quickly or when you aren't using it make sure to keep it in the fridge. I also enjoy frosted but haven't tried the long portion . I would very much recommend trying Oden's Cold either dry or regular if you enjoy spearmint. Lastly love the avatar, I am a HUGE Stargate fan myself...and well your avatar just so happens to be from the best episode "Window of Opportunity" AKA The Fruit Loops episode lol.

I will post my thoughts on it when I try it. I guess I will go ahead and post my newbie impressions of all of them in case anyone is interested.

Haha, yes it is a great episode! Stargate is one of the best TV shows. I keep telling people that, but they don't believe me. Usually get something like, "That old show where MacGyver goes to other planets? Sounds dumb." Both SG-1 and Atlantis (and the movies) are great. SG: Universe tried too hard to be like BSG and failed IMO; it lost the charm, character, and humor of the other shows.

I might like the Oden's cold flavors, but I don't want the extreme strength. I'm trying not to get my nic tolerance up too high. I only got the Thunder Berry to use in case of a craving emergency. I will keep your advice in mind. Edit: Oh, for some reason, I thought the Oden's Cold only came in Extreme strength. Somehow I missed the regular strength ones. I might get some with my next order, then.

I agree 1000% with the top portion and have had similar results with trying to get people to watch it. I recently re watched all of SG1 episodes but because Atlantis is no longer on Netflix I stopped there (although I have watched all episodes of all the series in the past). I highly doubt I'll ever touch Universe again although it wasn't awful the first go round but too dark and not Stargate. I loved BSG for what it was I don't need an imitation. I've been on a mission to catch up on great SCI FI shows that I may have missed in the past and really plowed through a bunch of series in the last couple of years. Just recently finished Andromeda which I enjoyed but the last season was pretty much crap which seems to happen a lot with good shows of the genre. Sorry for anyone reading this that could care less about Sci Fi lol.

On to the snus, yes Oden's Cold comes in regular 9mg portions in the dry (basically white) and regular portions. I've had the extreme also which tastes the same and as I'm sure others will tell you the 22mg of nicotine is deceiving it's not like Thunder Raw which will knock you on your ass. Extreme gives me less of a buzz then the Thunder Berry it's more of a sustained nicotine release of long and slow so although I am by no means trying to get you to try it's something to consider in the future as it really won't mess up your regular portion use. Another tip about the cold is that the regular comes in 18 portion cans and the dry comes in 15 portion cans which seems wrong and a rip off but the dry lasts much longer so you'll notice that you will use less portions. For some its much less for others like me it's only a few less as my portions last only 20-30 minutes usually no matter what snus I use. For the dry cold its more like 40 minutes. Any questions feel free to ask and if you're interested in any other shows you may have missed let me know as our tastes seem to be the same lol.

                          Newbie Impressions of First Order

Okay, so I'll keep updating this thread with my newbie impressions of these as I get to them. Someone may find it helpful. (Or not. I don't know, but it's fun to write about them and I don't want to put these in the review section.)

I haven't yet developed a "refined" taste for snus or anything, and I still smoke a couple cigarettes a day as of this post. So I imagine a lot of this will change.

                          So Far:

Ettan Original Potion - Mild flavor, not too peppery or citrus-flavored like General, which is good in my opinion. Ettan just has a little cocoa-like flavor, but isn't sweet at all. It's salty tobacco with a bit of a dark unsweetened chocolate taste. So far, I like it and think it could work as a regular snus.

Thunder Frosted Longer - These are long and thin, so they just tuck right up there in the corner of your mouth. Pretty moist and the flavor and nicotine come on fairly quickly and boldly. Good minty flavor, but it goes away after 20-25 minutes. These are advertised at 12mg nicotine and they are satisfying. Undecided whether I'll get more of this yet.

Jakobsson's Flader - My favorite of the new ones so far. Kind of a green apple flavor, that isn't too sweet. Fluffy, soft portion. It is just plain nice. Want to get more of this for certain.

                          New:

Catch Spearmint Long - Well, I knew I was going to get some in here that I wasn't fond of. This appears to be one of them. The pouch shape and size is nice, but it's the same experience as General Mint., which I don't like. The spearmint flavor starts off okay, but quickly fades into just the same blah artificial sweetness. It's sweetened with acesulfame (used in General Mint, too), which is too much like aspartame to me. I'm sensitive to artificial sweeteners and can't stand nearly any of them. The only one I like is saccharine, which not surprisingly Jakobsson's uses and I guess that's why I like their semi-sweet snus.

^ You're really gonna like the cold then. I don't want it to seem like I am championing it but its more of a tobacco flavor with a spearmint oil it is not sweet at all imo. I would also try the Jakks Melon if you like Melon, I really don't like it but based on what you wrote I bet you would. My opinion stay away from Jakks Mint you will most likely find it too sweet.

Have you set a compose key? I just loaded Ubuntu 12.04 in a vm, and got it to work in Chrome.

Regarding lössnus, you should give it a try, regardless of preconceived notions. It's a completely different experience, and the flavors are different between portion and lös, even for the same product. I'd recommend Ettan or Röda Lacket. They're both easy to handle, and have a mild, but nice taste.
