    In Conclusion...

Well, this has been fun, but with a lot of rather unexpected results.

My tastes are changing as I go through these. It's difficult to pin down what I like. My hope for finding a favorite, "my snus" out of my first order was ill-founded. It isn't helping that I haven't had a cigarette in six days now. That is awesome of course, but it's making my taste buds change rapidly.

I now prefer the original portions to whites. Grov OP has been climbing up on my list, even though it still makes my throat scratchy (maybe that will go away). Ettan has fallen a bit and while Granit is still good, the lemon is starting to bug me sometimes.

The only one that has held consistent is the Jakobsson's Classic Strong, but it's a bit too strong and sweet to use all the time.

I did try the Göteborg's Rapé Lingon. The first snus I've had that I had to spit out right away. It was awful. I am not a fan of berry snus, apparently.

What would I say to anyone in the same position, ordering snus for the first time? If you can afford it, try fewer kinds of new snus at once. I know shipping costs make that less feasible. But I got too many different kinds. It would have been better to try fewer, but at least a few cans of each to get a better taste for them.

Also, I found it doesn't matter if I love a similarly flavored food; snus is too different and I might not like it. And it's difficult to get any accurate idea about them by reading about them. Gotta try them all.

I'm needing to make a second order now, and have no idea what to get.

Don't throw them away. I've learned that many grow on you. It's human nature about first reactions. I'll admit I'm the kid that will try almost anything and I have pretty flexible palate. If its prepared well I'm am able to wrap my brain around the experience. Also revisit to be sure . But when that doesn't work try to trade them in that thread here. I couldn't wrap my brain around the ones sweetened with that artificial sweetner thy use. I tried. There was one though that worked and yes it does use the sweetener I'm 50 percent sure! Ha ha! Thunderberry. That one works. Just my thought for the day this visit here. It's really fun actually. I kind of OD'd on Gotebourg Rape, my first flavor and decided I didn't like it ( have a roll in the freezer) well, I revisited it and the truth is I was very surprised to be oohing awwhing on several flavor bursts from my portion ( I use Los but put in new empty tea bag to qualify). Just saying.

I think Granit is brilliant .. it's a little more floral than General but is one of the classic bergamot flavoured snuses. And I'm glad you've found some things that you like.

Count me in on the band that advocate holding on to the old stuff in the freezer ... my palate was all over the place as I started to get used to using snus and what I loved at the beginning is certainly not what I love now (in fact the brands of snus that are available now is totally different to a lot of what was available back when I started so it's sometimes hard to be sure!) - once your mouth is completely used to the salt levels and you get confident enough to do that little trick of pushing some air in your upper lip around the portion or prilla of los to get the flavour all round your mouth - then the real snus-gourmet in you will be released and you'd be surprised now at the kind of changes that happen.

Yes, I've got a whole bunch in the freezer now. What was I thinking?

Just an update on this to show how much can change in a month. The advice given here to expect your tastes to change at the beginning is true. Expect them to really change if you quit smoking. I think I am narrowing in on what I really like, though.

          Granit Portions - Still great.
Ettan - Lost the love for it. It's just okay. I ended up not ordering any more. Weird, huh?
Grov - Same thing happening with this one. Losing the taste. Still a little better than the Ettan.
Jakobsson's Flader - Still delicious, but can't handle too many. It's bitter.
Jakobsson's Classic Strong - Still awesome!

Those are the ones I finished out of my first order, the rest is in the freezer, given away, or thrown out. So there ya go...

Got a couple new good ones in my second order, though:

Jakobsson's Classic (not strong): See, I thought the Classic Strong was just a bit too strong and sweet to use all day and wished there was something similar that was less strong and not as sweet. What about the Jakobsson's Classic? Well, duh, right? But the reviews made this sound like a totally different snus and I didn't think it was going to be similar. But it is. Kinda. It's the same great maple and tobacco flavor. Just far less sweet and more citrusy, and not as strong at 9mg nicotine. So it's just great. 8/10

Edit: The Classic is the same flavor as the Strong, just without sweetener. I dissolved some Sweet 'N Low in some water and dripped it on to some Classic portions. They tasted almost exactly like the Classic Strong after that.

Tre Ankare: The new - and currently only - Swedish Match product that I really like. We'll see if it can last. No one talks about this much. I don't know why. This is like the standard snus. Not Ettan or Grov or General. This one is the one I would recommend as a basic, but tasty snus. Just a good, salty, rich tobacco, with a slight nuttiness and an even more slight herbal note. Not much in it that could turn on ya (unlike the dark cocoa-like taste of Ettan, or the hickory smoke of Grov, or the pepper smack and strong bergamot of General). Tre Ankare only comes in white portions, which is a shame; I think this would be even better as an original. 8/10

          Granit Lös: Yum.

            And the Winners are...

Thought I'd update this in case anyone was interested.

I'm on my 4th order, and I've tried more than 30 different kinds of snus now. Not a whole lot compared to some, but still a pretty good variety.

Though I'm still trying a couple new snus each order, I think I may have settled on the ones I really like.

Granit and Thunder Frosted are the ones for me.

Granit Original Portion and Granit Lös are my favorites. For some reason Granit does it for me and has held consistently good. (There was a brief spot where I thought it might be a bit too lemony, but I think that was actually just a few portions that might have been that way. Whatever it was, that didn't last and I simply love them now.)

I've wanted a minty, discreet snus for use at work. I've gone through a lot trying to find the one, but Thunder Frosted Minis won out there. Great, very minty, with a good underlying tobacco flavor. The minis are strong enough to satisfy and are very discreet. (I work at a restaurant and can't have the customers or other employees know I'm using snus.)

My last order was all Granit and a roll of Thunder Frosted Mini, with only two cans of different snus to try out: Ettan Lös and Thunder Original Loose.

I loved the Jakobsson's Fläder and Classic at first. But they got too bitter. The Classic Strong is still good, but I find I'm not using it much anymore. I think I've had every kind of Jakobsson's available at the moment - even the Ice Fruit. The rest of them were okay to weird and the Melon was just unfortunate.

I really wanted to like Oden's because of the name and the can designs (and some of the things GN says here). I tried, but I just couldn't get into it. I tried the Oden's Cold, Oden's OP, and Olde Ving Fudge. They each started off great, but then there was just something in them that didn't sit well with me.

A lot of the Swedish Match varieties were just too plain. Some were good, but not as good as Granit. A bunch turned on me. Tre Ankare was the best, but the portions were too uncomfortable in the end (all white portions are too dry and scratchy to me now).

The strangest snus of them all was Mocca Maple. What the hell was that? haha

A notable second to Granit is Skruf Original. I really like this one. If I couldn't get Granit, I think I'd be good with Skruf.

I guess I'm lucky that the ones I like and will continue to order rolls of for foreseeable future are the "bargain" brands.

I tried that on one early order as well, to me it tasted like those flavored coffee creamers that come in quarts, like International Delight. Weird, sweet, somewhat like maple syrup and chocolate. I would be hesitant to pull that can out in public, looks like a fancy makeup case.

I don't remember it as being completely awful, just strange, I no longer like flavored snus much with the exception of Skruf cranberry because it's not sweet, tastes like raw, fresh cranberry, sort of sour, but good.
