(New) to snus, few questions about nicotine not effecting me.

    Hello lads,

I just have a question/something to say and see what you guys think about nicotine in just about every tobacco product Ive used. It starts a few years ago when I started smoking American Spirits Perique Blend roll your own cigarettes. When i first started I would smoke 1-3 cigs in a sitting (about an hour, they take FOREVER to finish) and i would get a slight slight buzz, more like a different feeling, not the knees buckling head spinning/dizzy Ive always heard of. Those buzz's stopped very shorty after and would only get a buzz maybe once a week early early in the morning. About a year ago I quit smoking with no withdraws at all after having 15-20 cigs a day I switched to General/Odens/Thunder Frost snus about 8 months ago because my cousin gave me some and it tasted nice and a lot better than other chew/snuff/long cut ive had. After 4 months of no nicotine in my body, I took it slow because I knew General Snus Mint or White portions had ~8mg of nicotine so I tried one, a week later 2, then I ended up staying between 2-3 sometimes 4 when Im at work and its hot to make my mouth not so dry.

Anyways, I ended up being in the hospital 4 months ago due to an ATV accident, I stopped snus obviously during hospital stay and after (3 months) and recently started it again while at work 3 times a week, no more, and switched to Odens Extreme which i hear has ~20mg per serving. I could put my whole top lip full of this loose stuff (get about 4-5 lips per can) and I get no buzz at all. Im wondering if any others have experienced this at all? As risk as it may sound, I put a full lip of Odens and 4 General Mint pouches on my bottom lip and had an AS Perique cig with no change. Ive always hear nicotine effects people about the same way, when you dont have it for a few days/week it will hit you when you do it, but 2 instanced i was off of it for months and the first time I had it I took an exceptional amount, and even now, I have 2-6 pouches 3 times a week.

Sorry for the long post, and if it were in the wrong Topic group, and ive searched this forum for the last year or so seeing whats good and what not, and havnt yet found anything about the 'high nicotine tolerance' and google hasnt been much better.

Oh! and to add, Im 5'11'' 21 years old and about 220lbs. Active individual and have been in sports my whole life. Smoking hasnt slowed me down physically when I did smoke.

Also I do have a very high tolerance for alcohol and recently found out I have a high pharmaceutical tolerance when in the hospital when they had to give me very high amounts of pain meds/sedatives to just barely take the pain away and relax me enough to be still but not knock me out. And I mean, a large dosage. When my mother that is a nurse found out the amount they were giving me when she was visiting, she said the dosage would normally make someone loopy and 'high' for hours and hours and it just barely got rid of the headaches or made them tolerable.

Not sure if that may be a applicable reason.

I would guess that with such a tolerance as with yourself you'd find giving up quite easy? You may not have as many nicotine receptors in your brain.

Oh Ive found it easy to quite the 2 times Ive went months without it and the few other times I ran out and didnt care to journey out to get snus. Its just with the work that I do, i feel naked not to have something in my lip, whether it be 1 or 4 pouches or even Cope dip, which I stopped buying because my local Circle K's have had General Snus cans (24 count) for $1 a can. Needless to say I have 15-20 sitting in my work fridge because I only do them the 3 days I work.

Its just got me really curious about the nicotine not effecting me at all. I recently gave my dad who has been dipping the last 35 years General Snus, he put 4 in his lip thinking it wouldnt do anything, and he had a crazy head rush and spit them out within 20 mins.

It seems like I just may lack many of the 'substance' receptors than, though ive not known anyone that has it to my high level. I come from a family where every single person either dips or smokes, and they get buzzes after 20-30 years of nicotine intake.

Welcome to Snuson. I would think your personal experience is very unusual. What Frosted said may turn out to be exactly spot-on.

You may also be fortunate enough to never become addicted.

Alright that would make sense, I may have a quick chat with my neurologist about this when I go to see him next for a check up from the accident. I always assumed it was some kind of high tolerance or my body not recognizing I was taking in very much nicotine but I was always in doubt because people usually think I am just blowing my own horn and bragging.

And thanks for the welcome, I can see myself being on this forum regularly, I'm completely open minded on trying different snus, though I do not like super salty snus or really sweet snus. And the fact I do not like ordering snus online makes my limitations on brands very narrow to what the smoke shops sell. Is there any percussions I should be aware of if I do order online? I know ordering cigarettes online for really cheap has gotten people in trouble before because of tax laws and all, but that was a few years ago I heard about that and not sure in online sellers have worked something out to charge you your state tax. Or I may have been lied to NY others that supposably gotten in trouble.

I am very hard to get a buzz as well. I remember my first dip didn't give me a buzz and it was pretty good size back when i was around 12. I can only really think of one time i got a buzz off of dip. It was after a long day sitting on a friends rooftop with a huge wad of skoal apple. I felt amazing...he threw up chips salsa and guacamole.
Around that 13-14 year age i would smoke occasionally. Me and my friends would scurry around town trying to get someone to buy us cigarettes. That weekends first ciagrette would usually give me a decent buzz but the ones after never would. I never smoked much but every once in a while i'd go through a pack. An early morning saturday cigarette would give me a buzz on an empty stomach but nothing else ever did.

That was all along time ago. Since switching to snus I still never receive any buzz although I am much more addicted than you seem to be. I've put two thunder ulta raw frosted in my mouth once on an empty stomach and felt a bit of the nice feeling of a nicotine buzz but never anytime else. If i have too much nicotine i just get a headache....although im highly suspicious it is the mint flavor that causes this. If you aren't getting a buzz and aren't addicted why do you do it though? I'm 21 as well and wish i could save 100$ a month from quitting to put into my car payment.

Yea see Ive never tried anything before the age 18-19 besides a few times when my grandfather gave me a wad of Red Man chew a few times when I was in grade school. See Ive tried about everything, like you said taking it on an empty stomach, early mornings, a friend suggested to take snus and smoke a cig to get the buzz from the cig and the snus will make it last longer, with no avail. Im not to hurt by it, though it would be nice to feel the relaxing buzz every now and again, I just do snus and smoke a cig or two a week just because its like a ritual and a daily routine at work. If I go off my work routine, not at work, or am to busy I dont smoke/take snus at all and dont think about it until Im done and put it in.

I still do it because Ive been lucky enough to get it so cheap from the stores around here ($1 a can of General portions and found out today the stores I go to also have a $1 off coupon from the vendor so I got 30 cans for free from 2 stores.) and the fact I enjoy it and the flavor and do not need to worry about getting addicted in-case I run out or do not have the funds to go through the withdraw. Its kind of like a daily treat for me that I dont need but its there and I enjoy it.

On another note, Im going to go lurk around the other posts and see whats all going on. Probably will not reply to many being new and dont want to force myself in the community, just ease my way in.

In-case you were wondering and not sure if I completely clarified, I do dip Cope, chew loose leaf, smoke American Spirits perique blend only, Hookah (select few brands of Shish and only 1 brand of coals and on possibly the best made hookah pipe), and snus. Im kind of a quality snob when it comes to every type of tobacco or beer I consume, because I think if im going to do it, might as well spend the few extra bucks to get higher quality and tastier stuff. So if you guys do have any questions about Hookah (not sure if there is a catagory for this, havnt looked) or anything else. Ask away. and sorry for the long drawn out replies, I tend to do this when typing because its the way I talk.

Smoking while snusing sounds dreadful. I can just imagine the hot breath and ash taste combined with what that turns the flavor of snus into.
I never liked smoking, whenever I am stupid enough to do it i spend the next few hours asking myself why as i brush my teeth over and over trying to get that awful taste out of my mouth. If i am unfortunate enough to smoke and then fall asleep it is incredibly miserable waking up in the morning or the middle of the night with that taste in my mouth.

you are not supposed to get buzzed from nicotine. I for the life of me, do not know why people chase nicotine highs. WHen you get buzzed from nic, it means you have taken too much. Its the beginning of ODing on Nicotine. Smoke some weed if you want to get high, but don't chase nicotinie for a buzz. ANd if you can stop nicotine intake without issue, then do it. Why risk getting hooked?

But seriously, any buzzes from nicotine will go away quickly because your body adjusts, and nicotine is not meant to take in doses that give you a buzz, again, that means you have had too much, and as your body adjusts, you would need more and more to reach that buzz.

                      Welcome to the forum, Zachbret!

The effect from nicotine is much milder than that from coffee. Drinking coffee gives more of a "buzz". Tobacco is indeed no drug to get high. It's a very mild stimulant with several beneficial (medical) effects. That's why it has become mainstream to use tobacco (whether smoked, chewed, sniffed ... or just put behind the upper lip) and that's why it has become the focus of so much hatred. Tobacco is probably the most powerful medical plant ever found and at the same time practically harmless. It makes medics jobless and threatens the revenues of pharma companies.

Yes, there are some statistical hints that smoking contributes to lung cancer and other diseases, but these hints are so weak overall that they in no case can justify the fuss that's made about tobacco-use. Most tobacco "science" is indeed unscientific nonsense, if one looks closer. And in case of smokeless tobacco there is even no evidence at all, that it could be harmful, yet the pharma-industry-shills from Tobacco Control fight it as if every tobacco leaf was possessed by the devil. "Tobacco Control" is a witchhunt for money. It has nothing to do with health.

Back to the topic: it's known that tobacco is not for everyone. People are different. Many people do not get enough effects from tobacco to justify the use. I'm lucky enough to clearly feel the pleasant effects from nicotine but it's far from being a buzz. Many people like that slight effect very much and use tobacco all their life, others don't get anything out of it.

Zachbret, you're maybe a born tobacco user for life, or maybe not - that's up for you to decide. The only thing that I can confirm is that, apart from a few very sensitive people, practically noone gets a notable buzz from tobacco, it's more like a pleasant feeling of being calm and focused.

                      Cheers!

Whalen! Please bring back Fidel Castro ... that's all I'm going to say on the matter.

With regards to Frosted's snuff experience - I think that's just a snuff thing as the blood from the nose goes direct to the brain and a hooter full of snuff after a short period of abstinence will do that to a guy.
