Canada and European trade free agreement

    Hello,

    Considering this article: http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/...ticle14924915/

Does this mean that the cost of duties will or can be reduced with this agreement for tobacco product too ?

This will be a very good news for us, canadien snuser

    Thanks,
    Charles

I don't think we will see lower taxes because of this when ordering online. The taxes are calculated on the amount of tobacco regardless of where the order originates from. For instance, the tax calculation on a can of dip shipped up from the U.S. is the same as for a can of snus shipped from Sweden. Maybe there will be a slight reduction in the cost of General snus imported into the country for retail sale but I very much doubt it considering the recent smokeless witch hunt the government has been on.

I doubt very much Canadians will see lower taxes. In my opinion the reasons the taxes are so high on tobacco, is to discourage tobacco use plain and simple. It's like a financial punishment. If anything they will continue to rise. I would like to see the snus market open up here. That would be great.
