    Hi from NYC!

    Hey everyone,

Just wanted to say hi! I'm a new snus user from NYC who has smoked for many years and used E cigs for a minute. My girlfriend is from Gothenburg and her brother hipped me to snus, which I love. I was initially very resistant to the idea of smokeless, but trying is believing. It is very easy for me to get the perfect amount of nicotine with snus without using it all day, a joy because I kinda trend towards chain smoking. I have tried only a couple types now (mocha mini lakaris in Sweden, general white, mint, and wintergreen in the USA) but I'm looking forward to the journey of trying some new stuff! Any advice or tips? I'm thinking about trying ettan next...

Ettan is a good place to start. It's a mild, seasoned tobacco flavor and one of the oldest brands. Lots of tradition in Ettan, but also a very approachable snus for those new to snus or just wanting to try something different/branch out from flavored. You'll dig it, it's quite good.

Welcome to the form mate. Since your mrs is from Gothenburg I would suggest Göteborgs Rapé. Ettan is good, if you like the plain tobacco snuses then Grov is a good one as is Oden's original. Always try granit, skruf and Röda Lacket too.

Seems I'm getting to the party a day late.....but welcome to the forum bro!

Try a variety........never throw anything away.....save it in the freezer.....your taste will change

Try Odens Extreme and #3 (Classic regular strength)

          Try Thunder Frosted

          Granit

          Skruf

          Gustavus

          Jacobssons original and mint

Old Ving Melon and #99 (Coffee)

          Onyx and Tre Ankare

Each group is from a different maker and should give you a good sampling of range of flavors and makers

Anyway keep us posted and let us know what you tried, liked, and did not like
When it's my time to go, I want to die peacefully in my sleep, like my uncle did....... Not screaming in terror like his passengers

Thanks for the warm welcomes! I'm about a month into snus. Here's some observations.

            - I find I can use less and less, and going longer between taking portions. I was using 6-8. Now, 4-5 a day of regular portions (kept in for an hour each) seem like a really good amount depending on the hours I'm awake. I may WANT more portions when I drink, but i usually start feeling sick if I over do it. I think that might be my body telling me something, so I intend to listen. Also, If I use more than like 4 a day, my lip feels it by getting dried out. I don't really want to play to tolerance build up game, so I'm going to be Lagom about it, as the swedes say.

            - The ritual aspect of smoking, which was admittedly problematic for me, has been altered/helped by taking snus. I feel into very specific times I would need that "kick" but perhaps the slower, more gradual release from snus has helped me feel more balanced. When I tried to square up my old cigarette schedule with snus it didn't really seem necessary. One in the morning a couple hours after waking, one after work, and one or two evening ones. And no craving, although I do get a nice, pleasurable release from the ones I get. Thats the gold star for me. Sometimes I forget to snus until many hours later, or I think about it and quickly forget when I'm doing something else. This never, ever happened with smokes. All and all, this has been very pleasant for me!

            - I'm still getting used to the taste of unflavored stuff, which I understand is kinda typical. I currently like the wintergreen (please don't hate me), the mint is good but I'm not really a mint guy so I won't revisit, and feel slightly confused by the original white. Its very salty and unique in flavor, but I hope it grows on me. I like the authentic experience and would rather have food for food-like tastes! I have a can of all three on hand, so I'm going through the WG/mint and will try the WP again when I'm out of the others in a two-ish weeks. Maybe I will have adjusted better at that point, and may try and stick it out by doubling down on a second can and only having unflavored on hand.

            - I'd like to try other stuff, but I'm not not sure I'm going to use enough to rationalize the order. I live in a loft building with a million roommates so I'm quite ambivalent about trying up the already-packed freezer with months and months worth of rolls. Also, shipping to such a huge, weird inner-city building is a pain. Lastly, I don't want to up my usage because I just have so much and so many tastes on hand. I'm sure more brands will come to NYC retail shops before long, so I can maybe wait it out. As I understand, General is a very good snus and I shouldn't need anything else.

            - Cost is very low compared to cigarettes and e-cigarettes, even paying per-can retail costs. $7 a can in Brooklyn, which lasts me 5-6 days. Awesome!

Great forum, guys. Appreciate all the information!
