    Los Snus Irritating my gums

    Hello,

I have been pretty much chain snussing portions and some los for the past 2 months and quit smoking successfully with it but when I start using strictly los it tends to burn and irritate my gums. It makes it all wrinkly/irritated and burns. It seems to dry out my gums. I had this for the first few days when I first started snussing portions but it went away in a few days. Does this eventually go away with los aswell? Thank you!

Depends. Swedish Match lössnus is saltier, and tends to give gator lip more than other brands. I don't usually have an issue with it unless I sleep with it in. It goes away fairly quickly though.

Yeah that seems to be the case. I have absolutely no problems with Thunder Frosted los but with anything by Swedish match it just soaks my lips right up and turns em to prunes.

Welcome to SnusOn. I believe Lx is right. It's the salt that causes the problem and it goes away an hour or so after I stop snusing. Congrats on quitting smoking!

          Welcome aboard Lird12!

It is normal to get wrinkly lip syndrome when starting on Los snus. I agree that the salt is the main culprit - I tend to find it also more pronounced with stronger snus which is more alkaline than regular.

You will find that your lip will toughen up - and you will find that the burning will start to feel more like a tingle - something many of us have come to crave and enjoy in itself.

          Cheers

I got the same thing with General Extra Sterk lös when I first started snus. No other lös gave me problems at the time. As it's been mentioned above it's likely the high salt content and the fact that your lips/gums aren't quite accustomed to it yet which are causing you the problems.

General los does that to me.

I chain snus Swedish Match and others like Thunder and Oden's. Sometimes my gums get burnt out. It's probably certain snusii but also the foods and drinks you partake. Certain greasy foods, spicy foods, and alcohol can do it too. Even certain breads or pizza crusts can mess up your mouth. Probably best to not actually chain snus 24/7, like I do, but it's probably not just the snus.

I was getting that same irritation even using portion snus when I first started. I haven't expanded to loose yet but I've got some coming. Anyway, two things really helped me.....

                    1. Rinsing with an antiseptic mouthwash at night seemed to help the irritation heal and go away quickly.

                    2. Gently brush the gum and inside of the lip with a soft toothbrush. It removes any loose skin and and will help those areas toughen up as you acclimate to snus.

                    I hope this is helpful.

I currently only use Swedish Match products loose and portions. I pretty much keep gatorlip all the time. It's just not as painful as say American dip like Copenhagen and Skoal.
My mind is like a bad neighborhood. I don't need to go there alone.:biggrin-new:
