Another newb

I'm new not only to this site, but to snus as well. I'm 33 and started dipping at about age 13 then added smoking at 14. I've been smoke free since just before Christmas 2013 this time, and have been dealing with awful coughing fits from the dip.

On a whim I bought some marlboro snus since it was on sale. Of course, I made that purchase before finding this site or doing any research.

I have already begun reading lots here and at another site I don't want to mention for fear of being banned or put in time out (see, I have started reading).

As my username suggests, I was a SSgt/E-5 in the USAF. dirt is what many guys I served with called me, since I saw nothing wrong with getting dirty & not cleaning up till all the dirty work was done.

So far I've only tried marlboro rich and spearmint. I've got more of each and a pack of peppermint. They were only $.87 per pack of 6 pouches. I haven't ordered anything yet, but have found a few places to buy general near me. I'm still trying to do some research before I place any orders for the real stuff. I'm used to grizzly straight and wintergreen dip and have also used & enjoyed Copenhagen straight and wintergreen. But that is not to say I won't try anything out of that "comfort zone"

Welcome to SnusOn. On the subject of General, the round cans are exactly the same as the snus you would buy in Sweden except for the FDA mandated warning label. The oblong cans are made with the same safety standards as the snus sold in Sweden, but they are said to be tweaked to American tastebuds.

If you like wintergreen dip then You will like jakobssons wintergreen, best wintergreen snus IMO.

HA, you have been reading, lol. Welcome to the site, Dirt! I'm the brand manager for Thunder, Offroad, Jakobsson's, Oden's and Northerner brands of Swedish snus, here in the US. You can check www.snusdistribution.com to find a store near you that carries any of these brands, or if you don't find one..shoot me an PM with the name and addy of a shop you'd like to see these brands. I'll have my sales team contact them straight away to get you set up.

Real Swedish snus is far superior to the US "versions" of snus. More nic, more true flavor and we know how it's made. Please continue to read up on why, this site and others are a wealth of information, as are the members here. They don't bite...much. Again, welcome :-)

I'm hoping to find a rotation soon that I like and enjoy, but am currently feeling a little overwhelmed by the large variety of brands and flavors. I'm thinking I'll start with portions until I get used to snus then possibly move to los or a combination of los & portions.

oh, and don't ever hesitate to ask a question. we've ALL been where you're at right now. If you like wintergreen...Jakobsson's wintergreen is fantastic, as is Thunder Wintergreen....General Wintegreen, not so much. That being said, General original portion is quite good, but the nicotine is considerably lower than the Thunder or Jak's. If you can't find it locally, don't be afraid to buy online...there are several reputable vendors to choose from. Everyone here has a favorite and will be willing to steer you in the right direction. Looks like I'll be ordering online. Right now, Rick, I'm not seeing any stores near me that carry the brands y'all distribute. I found 4 in SC, but they're all about 2.5-3 hr drive away.

Edit: forgot to add, I'll likely be searching more than asking. I understand that everyone had to start with no real knowledge, but am also used to seeing people getting flamed for their questions on other boards.

We like to think that we steer. Lear of simply directing people to use the search facility

as yiu are starting your snus journey the key tips are. Try everything and anything, you will find ones you like and don't like, never throw away a snus if you don't like it at first, your taste will change so out it in the freezer and come back to it at a later date. Rotation is key as you can get burnt out on the same snus very easily. Variety is the spice of life! Try lös when you're ready, it's not for everyone, the lös versions of most snuses do taste slightly different to the portions, ettan and grov are the standout ones, the portions taste smoker as the lös doesn't have smoke flavour added to it.

I'm definitely feeling welcome here. I know I haven't started asking much, but by now there likely would have been flaming and newb bashing if I were posting like this an some different boards I visit, not related to snus. Plus, I also joined another snus board, but can't post anything other than my 1st post which was just an introduction. I tried replying and nothing posts.
