    Newbie with a question.....

I have been getting General Mint portions from my local corner store but today I placed my first order online to try some new brands that I have read others on here talking about.

My question is......Does everybody put snus in their upper lip? When I first started snus, it simply wasn't comfortable and being an American dipper, the lower lip felt more natural so that's where I put it. Now that I'm expanding my horizons, I'm thinking about trying some of the loose snus and I can't imaging trying to keep it in my upper lip. Is there a benefit or a reason to put it in the upper lip instead of the bottom lip?

Snus is cut very fine, and lower lipping it probably won't last long. It dissolves too easily. Some do it though. Give it a shot, and see what you think.

I'll bottom deck a portion if i dont have time to keep it in for more than 15 minutes or so. Nic hits much faster specially if its an extra strong.

Bottom draws too much juice for me and does that way to quickly. I want to be able to get about an hour out of a snus (portion or los) and only take it out early if I want to, not cos I have to.

Los is a completely different experience with snus. You'll like some los that you don't enjoy the portion version and otherwise. There are even some that only come in on format which is pretty cool. I think of those as like snus for purists cos the company puts it out that way it thinks is best. I just really appreciate that idea so I like the ones that only come in one formula except I'm not a fan of the Catch ones or any minis really. I've developed a nice snus pocket and I like the mouth feel of it the way it is now...about a gm, maybe a little less.

Enjoy the journey of exploration. Though I really only use three snus now I still have the odd can(s) around and always get five or ten with each order just for hahas.

I mostly use loose snus in the bottom and portions in top.
That is just my preference, there is no right or wrong just experiment and see what works for you.

Roda and Ettan do tend to washout pretty quickly in the lower lip.......others like Grov, the phantom line, and Odens do really good

That said, I tend to use all the brands I have upper and lower......find what works and what you enjoy and don't sweat the rest

I have a question - When I use los, sometimes it takes forever to get any flavor going. The last time I did it, I had a Skruf los in for over an hour and couldn't taste anything so I took it out. I'm thinking that next time I will try to pack it more loosely to see if that works.

Ok, now I've tried a few more times with this tin of Skruf Stark and haven't been able to get any flavor out of it. I've tried barely putting any pressure into forming the pris, and still it just sits in my lip doing nothing, even an hour later. I'm thinking of throwing this tin out and opening an Ettan. I'm so frustrated.

Back on point.......two things (1) try it in the lower lip......no bake just pinch and go.....I find the lower lip yields the most flavor......in fact whenever I try a new snus for the first time it is always in the lower lip.....(2) don't get discouraged.........I find that some brands just don't register with my taste buds.....maybe it is body chemistry or some expectation I am bringing to the experience.......regardless there are a few brands that for the life of me I cannot taste........... General and Prima to name two.

Save the Skruf..............in the meantime find a brand that registers with you........and then later revisit the Skruf.........it really might be a matter of alerting your taste buds that they are looking for something new......once they pick up on it it may be easier to find in the Skruf

Grov has a bolder flavor than Ettan (which tends to be more subtle and nuanced)

Phantom Blue, Gustavus, Odens (Original or Extreme) are also good starting places.

With portions it really doesn't matter in huge sense that it will "work" either way. I much prefer using snus portions in my upper lip for a number of factors including significantly less saliva production and increased flavor. However, if you use many portions a day your gums will get irritated and it may be advisable to switch to your lower lip. Loose snus is a completely different beast. Since I am a former dipper I what a nasty habit of poking my dip with my tongue from time to time. I tried doing that with loose snus in my lower lip and it was a muddy mess of a disaster. Loose snus is a much finer cut than dip and it falls apart really easily. Just leave it be and when you bake it try not to make it too tight.

Anyway, I use a good amount of snus (I'm guilty of chain snusing) and some days I regrettably have to place my portions in my lower lip simply because my gums are horribly irritated.
