    Recommendations for a noob?

I recently received a small order from getsnus, all los, including their sampler. I've tried the Grov, General, Gotlandssnus Classic and Phantom Classic. I'm afraid to try the Skruf Stark. Afraid the average strength snus will loose its luster after experiencing a high octane product. My favorite is the General, then Grov, then Gotland. The only thing I didn't care for was the Phantom Classic. Any suggestions for what I should try next?

bsd777, welcome to the forum. When I started with snus, I thought the exact same thing about skruf. In fact, I did not go near it for about a year.

Well I'm so glad I changed my mind. It is one of my all time favorite brands. Likewise, I will go from Skruf to a regular strength without a hitch. I really don't notice much if any difference in the nic. In fact Prob had a much stronger nicotine effect on me than the skruf. From what I understand the Skruf is much slower in nicotine release/absorption than other starks. Thus, it takes less to last longer but the initial hit is much milder

Hope this helps and keep us posted

I worried about the same thing with Skruf. I'd had Skruf Stark portions and los, and wound up with a can of Skruf OP. I didn't expect much but found I like the flavor of it better than the stark, I think. Same goes for a lot of snus, although I (think I) needed the stronger snus to help me kick the butts. I still like a sterk or ES once in a while.

I doubt you'll forever lose the love of "regular" snus. It might lift you into the stark heavens for a while, but I suspect you'd come back sooner or later. Or you might shrug and say, "that was nice," and have a stark now and then. If you think you really might enjoy it, I say go for it.

What else do you have on hand? Ettan would be worth a try. I don't see it in the sampler (I'm assuming the Loose Snus Starter Pack), but I don't see any Phantom either, so I'm just guessing as to what else you ordered. Röda Lacket, maybe?

I can't say about the Offroad. I have yet to try anything in that brand.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I think I'll take your advice and dive into the Skruf stark. I ordered the los sample pack and two additional cans of cheap stuff. My thinking was that things would be similar to how it was when I used US snuff. I found that I enjoyed the cheap US snuff just as much as the pricier brands and I used SO MUCH that I needed to buy cheaply. I was using a can a day of US snuff, taking a huge wad at a time. I've found with the smaller portions of snus, a can lasts at least 4 days, so the cost matters far less. I've also discovered my enjoyment level is significantly less with the one cheap snus I've tried. I'm hoping the other can of cheap stuff is better and I'm worried about the Offroad because it's made by the same folks. The one downside to the two brands I liked the most is they both come in cardboard cans, which, once opened, don't seem to maintain moisture as well as plastic cans. By the fourth day, the snus has significantly dried out. I don't know how you people can open multiple cans. Keeping an open can in the fridge would probably help, but have you ever tried to carry a fridge around with you? My order came with 2 cans of Grov los, 1 General los, 1 Gotland Classic, 1 Phantom Classic, 1 Skruf Stark, 1 Offroad original, 1 Rothbrix Classic Blue and 1 General portion (it was free). I've also received several free portion samples from Dsicrete and General. I much prefer the los, but I do like to use portions in the gym and in spite of the fact that I usually don't care much for fruity or minty stuff, the Discrete peach was very good.

It's weird about snus. I think my snus loves me. I haven't had to toss any yet (yet). I am currently enjoying a pris of General from a can that has to have been open for weeks (though, yes, it's been living in the fridge). I won't say it's as wonderful as a freshly-opened can, but it's still very good to me. I guess that's all that matters.

I'm sure you will look into other brands of lös that come in plastic cans. I believe that LD and Gustavus would be good choices for you to try. LD is a little closer to General. I'm not sure it isn't better; it's very good snus. Gustavus isn't all that different, but seems to have a flavor more its own, brighter and with a bit of (good) bitterness. At least, that's my impression from the three or four prillas I've had. I just found the can I'd misplaced in my freezer, so I'm happy, but I've--naw, screw it, I was gonna say I don't have time to have some tonight, but I gotta have some Gus. So I'll sneak a pinch and toss it back in the freezer.

That's assuming I don't feel I just *gotta* have a portion once this lös is done. That happens sometimes with me; so does the reverse.

          Snus is fun

Sounds like you would like Grov Snus...

I don't make a habit of ordering the high octane snus, but it won't ruin the regular for you. Kind of like smoking an unfiltered smoke every now and then.

bsd777, I find that snus in general dries out more quickly than dip. Thus, I usually only have one can open at a time, maybe two.

Also, you might want to check out the thread "a Dipper's Guide to Snus". A lot of folks have contributed some good information and tips that you may find helpful.

Welcome bsd777. I strongly recommend you give Skruf a try. It has become one of my top snus, especially the Stark (both los & portion).

BSD, i wouldn't worry too much about the stark snus. I had held off from trying the ES snus for a long time but then i got a can of Grov black, liked that. Tried Onyx liked that too, then went in the whole way and tried Odens ES and Thunder ES. Both really good snus although personally i prefer the Odens. After that I was on ES for a couple of weeks straight.

Now i do a mix of regulars Starks and ES. I'll have a stark or ES first thing in the morning. I mainly do regulars through the day at work. Then in the evening another couple of starks then wind down the night with a regular. I like being able to have a little extra nic kick when i want one but i still enjoy regular portions.

I wasn't searching for more nic, as regulars are fine to me, but I was curious to try them, hoping they would not make me feel ill. The 1st time I tried them, they didn't, and I liked it. Then I tried Thunder, and it didn't make me ill, but it did give a hell of a hit, but now it doesn't. But I do like the starks, because I think they seem to have a bolder sharper taste.

Exactly what I have found personally in regards to the "starks" and "ES's".

Just get what you want, best advice for beginner roflmao. No need to act like we would actually be "better" with snus. =P

Granit minis are the best! You are also correct about the nicotine content. If you start using regular or stark portions you will get used to them.

Imperial Tobacco is the parent company of Skruf (pronounced 'Skroof' and Knox brands of Swedish snus. Skruf is probably the second most popular snus brand in Sweden and one of the top most popular snus brands in the growing American market.

Skruf was started by two life long friends who saw an opportunity to make a big future for a small product - Jonas Engwall and Adam Gillberg.

Life long friends and entrepreneurs, Jonas and Adam, sat down in 2001 to discuss how they could use their skills gained in the world of finance to build a business in an area they were passionate about.
