A quick hello as I've only been lurking till now.

I've been a heavy smoker for most of my adult life, and three months ago I decided I had enough and switched to e-cigs. I'm a curious type, and e-cigs are messy (they leak, you need batteries, etc.) so I decided to give snus a try.

I ordered some from northerner, pretty much the only store that ships to Italy, and loved it. Been snusing for about three weeks, and I practically quit using e-cigs. I found out quickly that portion snus is too salty for me, while loose snus tastes great and also allows me to use a smaller quantity.

I'd love to try some of the traditional brands like Ettan, but unfortunately it seems that nobody can ship those to EU countries, so I'm pretty much limited to V2 snus. Anyway, grettings to everybody!

            Nicotine Free Days Are Over

            Hello there-

This seems like a nice group of people. Thank you all for the knowledge found on this site. I went from knowing 0% about snus to feeling much more comfortable with the product. Here's my deal: I am 29 years old. I have not had a single lick of nicotine since I was 25 (3.5 years). I was a camel wides smoker/any chewing tobacco guy before that for about 8 years. I gave up nicotine and holy shit! was that hard! Was on the couch for 4 full days chewing packs and packs of sugar free gum to occupy my mouth. Fast forward 3.5 clean years later and I feel fine. However..........I just ordered 10 cans of snus. What??!?! Why?!?!? I can already hear some of you shouting through the screen. The fact is I have come to realize life seems much brighter with nicotine. I love my life, it is great but there is something about the peacefulness of nicotine that I love. I do not believe that snus is completely risk-free. However, after reading all the studies I could get my hands on I really think that the benefits will outweigh the (few) costs. Not to mention two of my favorite other things are French roast coffee and meat burned on the grill. Apparently they have similar carcinogenic content. I wonder if anyone else came out of nicotine hibernation for snus?

              Hey Panfrances.

No shouting from me. I understand completely. I agree, nicotine by itself is a generally positive thing as far as I'm concerned. And with a very low-risk (and tasty) delivery method like snus, it's hard to see the downsides. Addictive, yes, but what of it? Is it harmful? Does it negatively affect your life? Or add to it? I know it's a really unpopular view that something addictive (gasp!) could be a good thing, but I think it's possible if used responsibly.

                Hi Folks.
I'm using snus for about a year now.
As long as it's quite hard to get one here in EU i also use e-cigarettes.
I prefer coarse los tobacco-tasting snus (like GROV), but I try different types and tastes as an interlude.
Thanks for all the tips/tricks/reviews and other stuff here.

                      Hello,
I stumbled on this world of Snus a few weeks ago and I couldn't believe there is an alternative to smoking out there like this. I have smoked for 15 years, although I have quit a couple times, a few months ago I found myself going back to them. Already feeling the negative effects of them, I decided I needed to try something new. It sounds like people have had great success giving up cigarettes with snus, time for my shot. Only problem so far is I am located in Ontario, Canada and it seems like ordering and customs will be an issue, hoping some Canadian snus users could offer some advice for me if they don't mind. Eager to try this stuff out for the first time!

                      Take care all,
                      JJDynomite

Hi Kid Dyn-O-Mite (I assume that's a Good Times reference?), welcome to SnusOn. I quit 25 years of smoking with snus and it works great, better than any NRT like the patch or nicotine gum ever did. It is a bitch ordering snus in to Canada, the taxes are outrageous. We can get General here in stores but it is difficult to find out where it is sold. If you are in or near an urban area it should be fairly easy to find. If I were to offer any advice I would find some General locally if possible and pick up a can or 2 to try. Of the flavours available here I've tried all except "Titanium" and they are all good. Once you've decided snus is for you then check out some of the online sites. The price online is comparable to buying locally once all taxes are applied, but there is a much greater variety. Good luck.

Hey Dynomite and welcome to the forum. If you are lucky enough to live in the GTA or other large city you should be able to find general at some stores. If you live in the middle of the bush a good idea to try is either buysnus.com or snuscentral.com . They both have an option of a mixed "bag" of snus either loose, portion, or a combination of both. I ordered 10 cans each of random portion and loose my first time just to find what direction i liked. Customs is a wierd issue in my case. Sometimes 10 cans would cost me $80 in fees, then 20 would cost $40, then 100 cost $70 and once in a blue moon no customs. Always a gamble for me lol

Thanks for the welcome, unfortunately I live about an hour from any city of note (Near Chatham, Ontario) and ordering will likely be the only solution for me. 80 bucks for 10 cans seems outrageous, especially considering we have a 200 g duty free import law! Not sure how much 10 cans works out too weight wise, maybe I'll just keep it around that mark for now. I have looked into that mixed bag of Portions from Snuscentral, that might be where I start off too. Oh Canada, eh?

I do enjoy Good Times but actually its a weird reference to a video game called NHL Hitz. You could pick from pre-recorded audio files of "nicknames" and I always busted out hearing the announcer yell "JJDynomite ices the puck!" My guess is the game stole it from Jimmie Walker though

Small world, it just so happens that I live near Chatham as well. Ann's Tobacco Shop on Queen St. just south of Indian Creek sells it. Or at least they did a few months ago when I was last there.

If ordering online, most sellers will split orders to Canada into packages of 5 which keeps it below 200g. I wouldn't worry about that too much though - I don't think there is any extra tax or penalties if a package is over the weight limit. I've used SnusCentral, Northerner (their service went south for awhile but seems to be better now), and Snusline. If you want to try Oden's, Jakobbson's, or V2 snus I recommend snusline. Also, check the Snus and other Tobacco exchange thread for another alternative.

Edit: The 200g duty free import law is only applicable to residents who have physically been in the states for over 24 (or maybe it's 48) hours. Anything you get in the mail is subject to taxation.

I have been to Ann's a few times, I will check it out today after work, thanks for the tip! I have ordered pipe tobaccos a few times with no issues from the States, but I thought that was because I kept it under the 200g limit. I guess its a roll of the dice then. I will keep an eye on the threads you mentioned too, very nice to get such quick help! Good people here on this forum
