    A few questions...

    Hi all,
I'm new to the forum and new to snus. Some background info: I'm a former smoker (quit 2.5 years ago after having smoked for 16 years). I decided to start using snus as an alternative treatment for a GI disease that I developed a year after quitting smoking. Nicotine alleviates my symptoms and helps put me into remission. I didn't want to start smoking again as I took up playing the bagpipes and needed my lung power. (odd hobby, I know.) So, I did some research, and decided to try snus as a cheaper alternative to wearing the nicotine patch.

After having read through parts of this forum, I'm guessing that starting off with Camel Snus wasn't the best idea in the world. My question is this: what brand should I buy? I'm not particularly fond of a heavy tobacco flavor and I do like mint, but I need a decent nicotine kick to keep me in remission. I'm fine with ordering online, but not sure where to order from or if there's a store in northern Illinois that sells actual Swedish snus.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Thunder Frosted mini or reg is a good start

Use Clubsnus for fast reliable delivery. I am in TX and get it in 2 days from Ca.

    Welcome aboard!!!

Well, if it's been 2.5 years since smoking, I would not suggest an extra stark(extra strong nicotine), but maybe Catch Eucalyptus, Offroad Icemint, maybe even General Mini Mint, then maybe the wintergreens may appeal? There are so many, I'd just pick a few that seem interesting.

          Welcome to Snuson jen

Honestly, Camel is a fine place to start. Probaboly at least 80% of the folks here got tehir start with snus just that way. But after reading and researching, learned there was better. So what if that starts with Camel??

Christi's rcomndation is good for a start. Thunder frosted is tasty, kind of sweet, and the best nicotine kick you can find.

          BUT.....

Don't assume you won't care for un flavored snus. Most assume that at the start, only to fine they actually come to prefer unflavored snus. Honestly, the longer you use, the less and less flavored stuff seems to hold up to extended use.

So.... just keep trying everything, keep an open mind. And know your tastes will change a lot the first year you are using.

I always recommend the Top 10 Box from Northerner as a good way to see what is out there. But all the vendors offer some type of try out box that is always priced well

          And again, welcome

Welcome to SnusOn. Snus is not like cigs in regards to menthol-non menthol. I was a menthol smoker, but now reach for non flavored snus more often then not. Go with what the others said - Thunder Frosted, Offroad Frosted, Roda Lacket is another good flavored snus. Getsnus.com is a good place to start from if your looking for a decent newbie selection. Order 5 cans get a free mystery can. Clubsnus has the fastest shipping in the U.S. period. They are starting to get a good selection as well. Both are located in the U.S. If I were you I would order from one of these and order the top 10 from Northerner. That way you'll have some snus while you wait for the Northerner order.

Thanks for the answers, everyone! I think I'll get a selection from clubsnus to try out. I glanced through their site and saw Nordic Ice has a cherry flavored, that sounds good. Has anyone had it?

VeganPunk, I see you're a Dark Tower fan. Excellent! We named our dog Eddie after Eddie Dean.

Welcome to the forum. Everyone will give different suggestions but personally I think you might like a variety of white portion snus. I'd recommend trying a small varied order from a US low cost shipping site (like clubsnus.com). Some of my favorites are skruf original white, knox white, and general mini mint.

Later on if you want to try a bigger variety maybe try northerner.com or wait for clubsnus to get a bigger selection in, which I hope will be soon.

Jen something i'll throw out as an alternative to mint is Odens Kanel (cinnamon) comes in regular or extra stark.
Also check out getsnus.com. They have a new flavor sampler going right now. They ship out of PA.
No matter what you order, welcome to snuson and the world of snus. Any questions you have just ask away.

Hello, jen. I don't have much to add beyond echoing what teeotee and the others said, and a belated welcome.
