I have been trying to find a balance between e-cigs and snus. But like some of you are finding out as well....the e-cigs just don't seem to cut it. I even found a really strong vaping device that gave good throat hit and good vapor...but it still did not feel like a substantial habit for me. I know for me, I like to obsess on my habits too....at least with snus it still has the edgy feeling of a real habit. You get that warm fuzzy feeling from having a good amount on hand...the excitement of occasionally looking for new flavors and strengths...and I think I even sort of like that it's sort of a covert habit that not everybody knows about. Besides, it's an awesome way for me to have nicotine and do it around my kids without them knowing. I never let my children see me smoke real cigs when I had them....I never let them see me use my e-cig when I used it...I just think that it's unfair for a father to do something destructive like that because of course kids are going to want to be just like daddy. So snus is the perfect choice for parents....I wish all parents with a nicotine habit would use snus and not smoke and be a much better role model for their kids. It's one of the very few Win-Win situations in life.
Snus As a Sustainable Habit

Good to hear BardicDruid. That is my plan as of the last few weeks..nothing but snus. I do miss the hand to mouth and the ritual of smoking....I only had 4 or 5 cigs a day anyway but it really was a great "mental" break for me. When I was having a cig was the only time I took in the day to just focus on being at peace. How exactly did you use the pens - just sort of holding it and placing it in the corner of your mouth now and then ?

Welcome to Snuson Darren11
My girlfriend came to snus via the e-cigg. She was on a forum there and read of snus from a post that Tropical Bob did there. So she tried snus as she was getting more and more frustrated and desperate trying to use the e-cigg alone. She kept going stronger and stronger and still wasn't working.
We actually met because I posted to help her out, realized she wasn't using strong enough snus, and suggested that she try some extra sterk. I was so sure it would be the key for her, and she sounded so frustrated, I offered to send her some priority mail.
Long story, we ended up falling in love, she will be coming to join me one day soon, and maybe, even become my wife one day.
But back to my point. Try some extra sterk if you haven't yet. Not for all day, but just those moments when you feel the need. I have come to hate the e-cigg, think it is addictive unto itself, have read and hated that forum, saw how hard for a moment it was for Debra to quit. But after she did, and the extra sterk was the key, she was so grateful, happy, and finally, satisfied completely with sus.
And to answer your implied question in the tittle of your post. How sustainable?? I was a two pack a day smoker for 32 years, started when I was 9. Have now used snus instead for 3 years. Added snuff a bit a year ago, started smoking a pipe 3 months ago. Before those, was only snus.
And welcome again.

Very sustainable, especially if you keep a few varieties on hand to mix it up. I've been going through a "have a few cigarettes a day" phase out of rebelliousness, but it's mainly in the evening before I go to be for some reason.
The landmarks for me were getting to the point where I was able to be completely satisfied with a morning portion instead of a cigarette, having Los Pris after dinner instead of a cigarette, and especially, enjoying nasal snuff while drinking far more than cigarettes (along with an occasional snus if I feel the need for more nicotine). When I tried other methods of quitting smoking, I felt it was only a matter of time before I failed, but keeping the nicotine hounds at bay with snus, along with discovering the sensual pleasure of it once my taste returned, supplemented by the incredible pleasures of nasal snuff, make me pretty certain I will never go back to smoking on a regular basis like I did for 37 years.

So Sagedil...are you saying that eventually you will be sending me snus and we might soon be in a relationship ? . Thanks for the information and I think you might have a point about the extra sterk. I have been using white mini snus for about a year now and I think if I want to maintain a "snus only" habit I need to kick it up a level. I too smoke a pipe and really enjoy it. I am actually glad that the FSC cigarettes came about as that has totally turned me off to mainstream cigs. Nicotine is a funny little devil....last year I wanted to be nic free for a few months so I used an e-cig with zero nic juice and managed to do it. Snusdog - thanks for the kind welcome. LHB - thank you very much for the information you shared. I have never tried nasal snuff. How does it work and why do you enjoy it while drinking...I must know as I do enjoy a few drinks every evening. This seems like a very friendly forum and thank you all for your information.

Seriously, I have become quite familiar wth the struggles folks seem to have with the e-cigg and maintaining adequate nicotine levels. For everyone I have spoken about it with, with each one, moving to stronger snus *sometime* fixed those issues.

Sagedil....There are times I think that e-cigs are a total scam. It sort of blows my mind that someone could have even figured out how to get nic in the smoke juice and vape it in the first place. More importantly the health issues are not known at all with only 5 years at the most of use by any one person that I have heard of. I will take the 200 year (or whatever) history of snus certainly. I am a decendant of Swedes myself so it actually just feels like the right thing to do anyway. They say that one should eat the foods, etc of their original homeland for best digestion and best health anyway as ones body was best designed to do so. It might be a stretch but maybe snus is a vice that is well suited for me. I will save you the pain of seeing my picture and try to keep any future relationship as heterosexual as possible

I too also still reach for the e-cig sometimes, but the funny thing is, I haven't noticed a bit of difference between using the high nicotine liquid in it and using zero nicotine liquid. Once these last couple of e-cigs die (which they are about to do), I don't plan on getting any more. They are what got me off of analog cigs at the beginning, but I'm finding the snus and snuff combo alot more enjoyable.

Darren11, my issue is simply this. You want to vaporize tobacco, I get that, But get a vaporizor and vape real tobacco. This "e-cigg" thing just always struck me as so damn fake. You have to buy these special cartridges? Over and over. And from where?? Just always struck me as so wrong.
I own a Vapor Genie I haven't used in forever. So I understand the concept of the physical benefits of vaporizing over smoking. But the e-cigg thing just seems like folks are trying so hard to not quit the whole "smoking " thing. Trade one addiction for another. Like it isn't even about really the nicotine, they need this apparatus.
But what is starting to anger me and making me a bit more aggression about it is that I have seen a few folks, including my girlfriend, really get sucked in for a bit and spend a whole bunch of money. So yeah, I am starting to see it all in a real bad light.
I just know that sterks have helped every single person lately that came from e-cigg make the jump permanent. Until someone comes along and says it didn't work, I am gonna keep pushing it at every newbie that comes in here. Watch, you will see it all again within a few weeks, I promise. Just what I do here. And again, glad you found us. A good next step for you.
And sheilalynn. That pleases me to hear. Funny. But you were a big reason I held my tongue so long. You and Tropical Bob. In fact, I investigated and read other forum there for a month a year or so ago because of you two. the idea it self intrigued me. Same as reason I finally tried snuff, and started smoking a pipe 4 months ago. I am open to all ideas on how to consume my beloved tobacco.. But that forum turned me off of it bad.
But I knew that you used I knew that it was what got you to drop the ciggs. It did the same thing for Debra. Big thing. So I wasn't ever gonna trash it But watching up close how it worked with Debra. Just changed how I am gonna approach it now.
So hearing that you are leaving???? A huge relief for me.

Hey Darren, I hear ya on not wanting to smoke in front of the kids, I am right there with ya! I quit cigs for snus basically so I could get my nic without my kid seeing. To be honest, health had little influence over my decision to quit, I really just got tired of sneaking around! But anyway, I went crazy at first trying pretty much every snus which has led me to a handful of faves, so using snus solely was possible for me. You can do it, just think of getting your fix while hanging with the kids and no one will know!
Ohhh and Lazer, the guy in that picture would have to also use both feet to cover me up. Lol- kidding??
