Hi Darren11, and welcome to SnusOn! I am Sage's girlfriend, and I have been on snus for 5 months. When I first started e-cigs, they promised that they are cheaper than cigarettes....well, I wound up spending $5000.00 in the year that I used it! It originally got me off of analogs, but only because it imitated it. I started out at 18mg of liquid, and found that I still had cravings. Moved up to 24mg...and was OK for a while, but again the cravings returned. Went up to 48 mg....and got into BIG trouble. My nicotine level got too low, because absorption through e-cigs suck big time. It felt like I was dying of thirst, and the e-cig was only giving me a drop of water! I was told about snus through Tropical Bob, but made the mistake of trying Camel Mellow snus first....and immediately threw up.

Bob finally recommended that I come here for help. When I first posted, I was in panic mode. Was vaping 24mg. in a 510 e-cig, AND 48mg. in a 5volt mod, AND wound up smoking a cigarette just trying to get my level back up. Sage recommended that I use extra sterks exclusively at first to build up my level, then I wound up alternating between extra sterks and sterks every day....chain snusing. E-cigs are ONLY good for the "hand- to- mouth" need of smokers. Even with snus, WITHOUT forcing myself to quit the e-cig....it took me (with Sages' help) 2 months to get off the e-cig completely. Now I am completely happy with snus. I also use snuff and smoke a pipe, but those are for enjoyment more than the nicotine. I found that I need nicotine for medical reasons, and I am fine getting it from snus. So yes, e-cigs are not regulated - most of the liquid comes from China.....snus will do it for you, the snus will win out in the end.

While I agree that currently, e-cigarettes are not up to par when it comes to nicotine delivery or ease of maintenance, I still believe that the idea is very promising. With more R&D, I hope they'll manage to get e-cigs up to a level where they are a true alternative to smoking. Many smokers are unwilling to try snus, but most were interested in my e-cig, so there is a market there.

For now, it's Snus all day long, vaping for fun when I feel like it, like while watching TV etc.

I still hang out at ECF, but only as a subversive. Kind of catching em as they fall off the e-cig wagon and directing them to snus/nasal snuff. There has been a good deal of activity over there starting last november when this thread showed up.

            http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/for...-nicotine.html

It blew off some of the doors and walls surrounding snus at the ECF. A fair amount of people have tried snus since then with more all the time. It can be a very interesting read for anyone who uses tobacco. Some very smart people joined in on the discussion and came to some very interesting conclusions. It's a very long thread (more like a novel) but the first 25 pages are where the action is. I disagree with some of the conclusions because it still puts to much emphasize on e-cigs, but it is a very enlightening thread.

E-cigs do work for some people, but at this point I think it's largely a scam. It's untested, with all but no studies done by the manufactures before it was pushed on the market. With the ever present threat of a ban people have spent thousands stocking up. I have no prof but I suspect the stocking up hysteria was (is) being pushed at least in part by the suppliers.

There has been some talk as of late, with TropicalBob leading the way, that e-cigs may not be as harmless as first thought. It appears long time heavy use of PG and VG (the main ingredient in e-liquid) may lead to some respiratory issues. That's a developing story so nothing specific, but there is cause for concern.

I got off cheap compared to many. I spent $300 before I discovered snus. Within weeks the e-cig was collecting dust, which has gotten a bit thick in the last 9 months.

Like it isn't even about really the nicotine, they need this apparatus.
Yep. I tried the e-cigs. Didn't work at all for me. But I think that most that try them are kinda like the dippers that come to snus looking for something as close to exactly what they dipped in a snus. The e-cig attracts us because its like we can still smoke, without the smoke. But to me, the mental hand to mouth habit is an important one to break with quitting cigs, so even if the e-cig did satisfy me nic wise, how would I ever quit the e-cigs since I am satisfying the physical addiction AND the mental addiction with the e-cig. At least with snus, I am still getting the nic, but breaking all of the mental habits of smoking. Not saying quiiting snus will be easy, but it comes with a lot less mental habits to have to break at the same time.

Yep, I spent tons of $$$ on e-cig stuff since I am such the impulse buyer, and kept trying to find something that worked for me. What a waste. At least with all the snus I am buying, I will either use it, or trade it, or give it away to smoker friends. I just gave my wife 3 cans to give to a friend in work trying to quit. The e-cig stuff just sits in a box.

Yeah, so do I. Just buy a vaporizor. From a Vapor Genie all the way up to a Volcano and everything in between. Because of my other hobby, those things are well established on the market. Then you can buy whatever tobacco you want from whatever source you want and KNOW you are doing better than smoking. But this whole current e-cigg craze??? No.

I remember reading Sage's advice a few weeks ago, something like smoke if you need to, but keep snusing, "the snus will always win". That has been key for me, and I really appreciate it Sage. I bet you don't even know how many people you've helped with those words of wisdom.

When I'm feeling week and pathetic for breaking down and having a cig, I just remind myself that the snus will win. And then I pop in a GES and remind myself of all the smokes I didn't smoke, rather than dwelling on the one that I did smoke.

So, yeah, Sage: You da man.

That's why I do what I do. I don't want anyone beating them self up, making it all harder, when there just isn't any reason to do it. I hope I have helped some people see that along the way.

Thank you all soooo much for all of the thoughts and information. You guys are great and its wonderful to have a forum like this. Because I too smoke a pipe on occasion I am sure I can get my fix of playing with fire and smoke just in doing that and use snus on a daily basis. Portion snus is such a great, simple, discrete vice. I don't really need to be inhaling fog machine vapor anymore from the e-cig. I was a fairly early user of the e-cigs and thought they had great promise. I think I spent $400 total over two years on e-cig products and juice...so that is not too expensive of an experiment. I am certain that the e-cig suppliers were going into forums and talking about UK bans and US custom seizures and advocating stocking up because they knew their products were soon to be trumped by better products and eventually e-cigs would lose their momentum. The mark up on that crap is crazy. Especially when they try to tell you that one cartridge is equal to 10-20 cigs...total BS...I never bought cartridges...I just filled my own...and I know how quickly a filled cartridge goes...it's more like 20 good puffs...not 20 cigs. Anyway...back to the greatest product around...Snus...I order from Northerner and have for about a year...is that a bad choice...I was first drawn to them because they were in the homeland of Snus.

Darren11, keep enjoying your pipe....and keep using snus, and soon - the e-cig will only be a memory. I am glad that you didn't spend very much on the vaping stuff....you may be able to sell it and at least recoup some from it. And finally, welcome to the SnusOn family!

Sorry for taking so long to get back but I've been eyeball deep in Cisco Routers lately. Anyway, for me have a stainless steel pen in hand and trying to take a drag off it is a real eye opener, I don't recommend this method intentionally. I'd get busy and not realize it was an ink pen and not an e-cig, didn't take long to retrain myself to reach for the snus can.

Darren11, I started smoking a pipe in part because I never gave up that love of tobacco in my mouth, and will still even inhale occasionally, depending on what I am smoking.

Just give the snus a chance, and try some sterks at those moments you just feel the need for more.

Northerner is the grand daddy of all snus stores. was my first and still gets about 60% of my orders. Buysnus occasionally. I have even used getsnus in desperation in the past but generally don't. The newest flavor, and my favorite, is clubsnus. But still new and working on adding more and more snus every day. But hat he does have, you will get in two days. every time, even across the country.

In the end, price is a big determiner. And prices seem to move a lot so usually check with everyone before I place an order and see who I can get cheapest from.

And Debra??? You have seen just the beginning.

In fact, I investigated and read other forum there for a month a year or so ago because of you two. the idea it self intrigued me. Same as reason I finally tried snuff, and started smoking a pipe 4 months ago. I am open to all ideas on how to consume my beloved tobacco.. But that forum turned me off of it bad.
The snus and snuff have won out over the e-cigs...it's more like a pacifier these days to me if that makes any sense at all  But I still can't diss the e-cigs totally since it did get me off of regular ones in just that first day even if I was puffing on that thing constantly. So I still think it has it's place if you need that whole hand to mouth thing at first while quitting and the sensation of a "throat hit", but after a little while it becomes a thing of the past and the snus does win in the end. And while it is cheaper than smoking, it's still not as cheap as snus or snuff nor as enjoyable now. Besides, I did get a little sick of having to explain the thing to everyone who saw it...snus is much more discreet too.
