    New SNUSer!

Hi all, new snus user and first time poster. I might be a bit of an anomaly here, as I didn't start using snus as a "nicotine patch" to quit smoking. I did, however, smoke for some years, but haven't had a cigarette in ages. Smoking was as much habitual for me as it was enjoyable. I mean I really enjoyed my tobacco. Since quitting a couple of years ago, I've wanted to find a way to rekindle my relationship with tobacco but never liked the idea of tobacco stuck to my teeth, so American "dip" was just of no interest to me. I tried nasal snuff, and still use a bit of Poeschl Gletscher Prise from time to time, but it just doesn't always agree with my sinuses. I tried Camel snus (the only thing I had available from local retailers) recently, but found the execution to be poor. Too sugary, artifical tasting and no noticeable nicotine whatsoever. So with a little internet research, I found the wonderful world of real Swedish snus. I ordered a General sample pack, and WOW what a difference. I found the regular portions to be a little strong for me in the nic department, and I'm sure I'll work up to them over time, but I find the General Mini Mint is a great starter for me. Comfortable nic level, and nice minty/salty flavor. I look forward to trying more and more snus varieties! Cheers all!

Welcome and you find a nice home here if you want to learn more about snus. If you like General OP but want lower nicotine they do make a General OP in a mini form as well. Enjoy the journey!

Thanks for the welcome! Funny you should recommend those, tex. I was browsing various snus retailers online, and when searching for minis the wise/oomph caught my eye. Now that I have a recommendation for them, they're definitely on my to-try list. Thanks to you too GoVegan, the General OP minis are also on the list now!

I would just buy a can of everything until you find a few you really like as your taste will change over time. I used to love General mini mints but got sick of the taste after a while and only use them about once or twice a week now. In my own opinion, a sampler pack is a good way to go and I have seen mini portion sampler packs.

              Welcome to Snuson TabakJack

              What others said.

Question, did you ever consider smoking a pipe?? My latest obsession, added that after about a year of snuff use, 3 years of snus use. I too was looking to further explore the joys of tobacco and have fallen head over heels in love with my pipes.

              And welcome again.

Thanks for the welcome! Yes, I have definitely thought about a pipe. I love the smell of burning pipe tobacco, and there's a great amount of nostalgia around pipes. I grew up around pipe smokers, and I can see myself investing in one some day. I really like the idea of mixing and creating your own blends, as well.

Check in the Other tobacco section for a few pipe threads, you will read about my starting there, and why. Plus, everything that helped me along the way....

Or heck, just click here.....

But for all the r3easons you said, and more, I am in love with all of it. Within 4 months, I have collected 15 pipes, 3 meerschaum, 10 briars, and 2 corn cobs. I already have over a year's worth of tobacco put away for aging. Far bigger "obsession" that snus for me now, snus is just predictable. Good predictable, but still predictable.
