I just wanted to thank everyone for taking a moment and echoing what I have said. As some of you know, I have been giving that same advice for years, but seems so hard for newbies to accept. So all of you that have gone through same and spoken up, thank you!! Best part of this forum.

I wish you guys could tell j it is ok if I smoke. I've been craving a smoke so bad today (horrible day) I have generwl wintermint in my mouth right now. However, j is really againt it and although I know it is ok with me to have one and he has to get over it, I wish that he would be a little more supportive and not just shrug.I do love this taste, and I'm mostly writing to keep my fingers occupied and like the support you guys have provided so far. I'm just rambling and hoping this craving passes as they seem to have passed for 6 days. God I need some friends and a life lol

FWIW I don't crave cigs at all anymore. I relapsed last year (year before actually) and smoked for several months, but these days it's all snus all the time. I use mostly sterks and regular/sterk los still to this day, but I don't chain like a lot of folks seem to. So when I get the need for some N I like it good and strong. I know what the cravings are like though my girl is going through it. Last night we got drunk and she was craving so bad that once again, I had her doubling up on odens and hitting the snuff like an animal (and los too!! I popped a pris out of the icetool into my hand and she went after it like a savage!!) And in the end she STILL wanted to smoke! We have been through this routine before. Anyway, all that is to say you're not alone, just snus on! Sooner or later you will forget about cigs. Seems crazy but it's so true.

I sort of agree with the "natural progression" hypothesis. I have noticed how the frequency of cigarettes has been declining for, what, probably 2 years by now. The funny thing is that I can't really remember exactly when I first tried snus, only that it was a Buysnus experiment after having discovered snuson while looking for alternatives to nicotine gum (which is an incredibly boring habit).
Sage is of course the resident snus shrink, but I think I can still offer something. In my case, what really happened was that my craving for snus while smoking became stronger than my craving for cigarettes while snusing. Picture a graph with an upward-sloping snus-craving trend and a downward-sloping cig craving trend. It gets more complicated, however. I have also discovered that the specific intensity of the various cravings depends on the situation. For example, I now must snus if I'm working, watching a movie or reading a book. Cigarettes are now useless in those contexts. The only time that I crave cigarettes now is if I'm in a smoky bar or if I sit on a terrace or balcony drinking beer. But there is a downward-sloping transition going on there too. Last year I was visiting a place with only smoke-free bars and I actually enjoyed it, which was a big (and pleasant) surprise. Also, the association between smoking and drinking has made me drink much less over time, which is a good thing in my case (I'm down to once every two weeks now). I'm now reaching a point where I may decide not to buy any more cigarettes, and so to speak reach the mature "Sage stage."

I first had snuff when I was 12 or so, and the experience wasn't the best. If you've had snuff, you can imagine what a hard snort of Navy scotch might do to a 12 year old nose :^D
Anyway, I decided I wanted to try snuff again, so I got a couple of Americans that winter. Me and my buddy sat in the work truck, and blew our heads out on snuff. It was an interesting experience, and I was intrigued. I didn't use it much, but every so often was kind of nice.
A few months went on, and I got a bug up my ass to try European snuff. There's a tobacco shop near me, but I couldn't find the time to stop in. On the way back from a job, I stopped in amid the ridicule of my partner, saying I'd buy snuff, but wouldn't use it. I got a tin of Gawith Apricot, and a smashbox filled from bulk of Wilson's Crumbs of Comfort. It was amazing how smooth the experience was when compared to the American snuffs, and I fell in love immediately. Both me and my work partner got into snuff big time, and I soon had over 100 snuffs in my house :^D
Anyway, I guess the reason it's special, is it jump started a childlike discovery of the snuff world. I had been pretty jaded and cynical for awhile, and discovering something through fresh eyes was a nice change. Gawith is special because it got that discovery going.
I told you it was boring :^D

Originally posted by lawofficegirlOk, I caved and lit one up. However, I am happy to report that after 3 hits, I was like "yuck!" I immediately put it out and popped a snus in and I feel better.
What I love about snus though is that I can do that. In the past, with any other method of quiiting, if I had a smoke, I just failed in my quit attempt. And the cig ALWAYS tasted great.
With snus, I have a smoke, it tastes bad, and I don't feel like i just failed because the next craving a snus goes in and I am back on track. Having that one smoke has not made me want more, or made me want to go back to smoking. So for that I REALLY LOVE SNUS!!!!!!!

You knw, I can't wait to order some chocolate snuff on monday. Unfortunately I'm internetless at home and only have this stupid smartphone to browse, so not as good, and can't really order online on it either (boo!) I woke up this morning wanting to try it again, so here I go back to gawith apricot and start my day. If I'm lucky, my mail man will have stuff for me today, if not monday it it is.
