    Newbie with nothing to Snus!!

I have been smoking 2 packs per day for over 40 years. yes, I am still alive. HeHe.
I have tried it all to quite, but I'm as hooked as one can be. I wake each hour at night craving a cig. Pathetic, isn't it.
I just ordered some SKRUF snus. The heavy kind. I'm hoping that it will at least help me to cut down on the cigs. thanks for all the info in this forum

    Hiya, welcome to SnusOn.

Make sure you try a bunch of different kinds of snus. There's much more variance than there is cigarettes or dip. If the Skruf doesn't really suit you, there's a bunch of others that may :^)

Hi and welcome, bluesstrummer. I too, smoked for over 40 years and quit completely fifteen months ago. As lxsklir said, try several different kinds of snus. General Ekstra Sterk worked for me, but try as many as you can, especially the sterks or strong snus. Good luck!

          Hi there, bluesstrummer, welcome aboard.

A lot of people have found snus to be very helpful with cigarette addiction, including I. The main ingredient for success seems to be self-direction. I've tried to interest one of my brothers in it, but he is now trying to quit cold turkey. And that's the way it should be, I guess; the solution needs to come from within, and not be enforced from the outside.

            Hey bluesstrummer, welcome to Snuson.

I started using snus 3+ years ago with no intention of quitting cigs, just something to help me get through my work day. Funny thing??? 4 months later, I stopped buying my 2 packs of cigarettes I had smoked for 33 years.

Just happened. So my standard advice, don't think much, just start using snus and see what happens. Smoke when you want, snus when you want, the snus always wins I keep saying. Cause it just does. This place is full of folks who did it just like I said and it works, the snus just wins in the end, it is a better nicotine delivery vehicle, you body will come to prefer it if you give it a fair chance.

As a fellow snuser trying to kick the habit of smoking I personally would recommend Thunder, it gives you exactly what you need. Nick and Johnny strong and black are good too.

My biggest problem with quitting smoking and taking up snus has been I get fidgety. With snus I pop one in and keep it there from anywhere between 30 minutes to a couple hours. Well, with cigarettes after putting one out I'd light up another after, I dunno, 15, 20 minutes? Half hour tops? The worst would be sitting at home chilling out watching TV. It just didn't feel natural to not be "doing" something every 15-30 minutes. I think I'm past that now after a couple weeks not smoking.

I will say though, that man do I miss the taste of a good full flavored cigarette and the feeling of the smoke going into my lungs. Really I enjoyed the whole act of smoking. But the energy and lung capacity I now have, I wouldn't trade for anything. It makes me wonder why I ever go back to smokes in the first place. Used to be I'd go out with friends and drink an ungodly amount and chain smoke. Then I'd wake up the next day feeling like death. Now I can drink the same amount, keep in a fresh snus (and before I finally got some sterks, double barrel) and wake up the next day feeling like a million bucks. Sure there'd be a bit of a hangover, but nothing like when I would smoke.

                Good luck!

Try working in a little nasal snuff as you snus. It will give you a routine and business and the nic delivery is a lot like cigarettes from what I understand

                  Also, bluesstrummer

One thing that you will find is that while cigarettes provide a jolt of nicotine, snus more maintains a level of nicotine in the blood stream. That is one of the reasons it is so effective to help quitting.

After you are used to snus, if you are still having trouble sleeping, you might try putting a portion in 15 minutes before you go to bed and just sleep with it in. It might help you sleep through the night. If you are like the rest of us, you will eventually fall asleep with one in anyway and might even wind up swallowing it (no worries it happens and won’t hurt you). Might as well see if it helps you get a good night’s rest

Anyway welcome to the forum. keep us posted. And listen to sage. He's got a lot of wise advice to give.

Hey bluestrummer welcome to snuson, good luck with quitting cigarettes. I quit successfully with Snus. I went from chain smoking all day to about 7 portions of snus and 1 cig in the morning. It took about 2 months to finally let go of the morning cigarette.

Snus in one of the best things I have been fortunate to have found in the last few years.
