What's the Deal in Oregon?

Hi,

I'm new to the Swedish Snus scene.
I saw the piece on 60 Minutes.

Can I obtain Swedish Snus in Oregon?
What is the deal here? I see some sites
will not ship to 5 states including Oregon.
When did we become the nanny state? :roll:

What is the law here. Can I get it anywhere online.

Ya. We have a couple members from Oregon, and they order snus ok. I can't give specifics, but Northerner and Buysnus should be able to hook you up.

I don't know why Oregon would be in any list of prohibitive states to order from... I've never seen it on the sites I use (but I don't live there so it's possible I wasn't paying attention). Do you live in PDX? Rich's cigar shop downtown has the General line up, so its obviously not illegal here (I'm in Oregon at the moment). Like lxskllr said we have some Oregonians here. I don't really know. There may be state laws about shipping tobacco that only some companies really care about. There's no way of saying without looking at all the details.

I'm in Salem, order from getsnus and Northerner. I looked at the swedishsnus site, interesting. The prices at first blush appear competitive, perhaps you could send em' an inquiry as to the prohibition on Oregon.

That's the 1st site I've seen that listed Oregon.
As far as I know Oregon is no different than the majority of states in that it has always had a law requiring taxes be paid on any tobacco being imported. so why some vendors would single out a few states where others do not.....

It looks like Oregon has already passed something very similar to Pact. From: http://www.oregon.gov/DOR/TOB/faq-cigarette.shtml

What is illegal about internet cigarette sales?

Most internet sites do not comply with Oregon statute (ORS 323.700-323.730) regarding tobacco sales. This law requires all remote sellers of cigarettes or other tobacco products to

1. Verify the age of the purchaser;
2. Be a licensed distributor;
3. Report sales to the Oregon Department of Revenue; and
4. Show proof of tax paid.

My guess is that you will actually benefit from Pact passing as it will bring retailers in line with those laws. The only one I am not sure about is being a licensed distributor. In California, retailers must pay an annual tax to sell tobacco products and I am not sure if that applies to online retailers as well.

Not a single shop in Salem carries Swedish Snus. The CamelCrap can be found, nothing else.

The vape, as in electronic cigarette aka e-cigs aka Personal Vaporizers. Inhaling nicotine without smoke don't ya know! Washington continues to pull the crap they continue to pull I may need to vape something other then nicotine simply cuz it'll cost less!
