I ordered 6 General portion cans,
2 Skruf Stark and 2 Skruf Xtra Strong
cans from Northerner.
Is this a good starter pack?

It all depends on taste.
If you don't like the brands or flavors you have purchased...Try it again later.
Your taste buds will evolve(personal opinion) :P
I like all the general stuff thus far. General original portions, general white, general es., and I'm dying to try onyx. the skruf really isn't for me. Tried it but just couldn't really get into it. However, I would advice to keep at it even if you don't, your taste will change over time. Welcome!
Xoxo
I think you've made a good choice. The only thing is I don't like Skruf which does't mean to say that you won't. I find it an extremely strong flavour - but it WILL do the job - guaranteed.
You can't go wrong with General. It's a middle of the road snus - and I don't want to demean General by saying that. It's a high standard.
The good thing about your order is that you can rotate your strengths to your needs.
Your tastes will vary wildly, certainly in the first 6 months. It took me a year to settle on a snus. But they're all good.
Some great snus, but be careful with the sterks. I quit smoking very easily using only regular strength varieties. It wasn't until a couple months ago I first tried sterks and I noticed after a while, regulars just didn't give enough nicotine to satisfy my cravings. I managed to wean myself off sterks and now only use one sterk a day (first one in the morning). But yah, Skruf and General are among my favs.
Me, I used a lot of sterks and extra sterks at first, while I was still fresh off the two-pack-a-day habit. Now, I still use them now and then, but regulars and even the occasional mini are fine.
If you like General, but feel you need "more", General Ekstra Sterk is (imo) awesome, and if you find you like white portions, General Sterk is good, too.
General Maxi is gone, sadly, but I find General Original Portion delicious. I like General White (and Sterk), too, and Onyx isn't bad at all. It just tends to get slimy faster than the others, it seems.
I think that you should try several more brands before you formulate an opinion on snus in general. General was the first snus I tried and I did it simply because it was reportedly the most popular brand. I still dig General but not as much as I used to.
Skruf just isn't my bag. I loved it at first but when I got to say the third can it just wasn't doing it for me. I think it's the rose oil. To me the taste is too much for the tobacco and the base isn't present enough. From the marketing it looks like they have the most pristine manufacturing conditions too.
I guess what I'm trying to say is that the brands are as different as cigarette brands. Now Camels are good, so are Marlboros, Kent, Pall Mall, what have you. They're all good but it seems that Winston caught your fancy. Snus is kinda like that too thought I'd bed you'll find more variety in the snusers snus menu then you would with the average smoker's variety of cigs, or even dippers with their go-to dip.
I wish I could get into the minis 'cos I'd like to actually decrease the amount of nic a little in the standard portion but that's for another post.
That is a good selection to start imo. When I first quit smoking cigs a skruf stark portion would make my head spin. It was uncomfortable at first but I'm convinced that quitting would not have been near as easy without them in my rotation.
as good as a start as any, actually, probably far better than many folks do as so many think they will prefer flavored snus, and almost never do in the end.
So....
Thinking about getting started with snus...
I have a sticky I want to write about making the transition from cigarettes to snus, but gotta get married in less than 2 weeks first, so one more time, let me do my thing here..
Best advice I can give, just don't stress it, don't change what you are doing now, just start using snus. Keep smoking....for now.
the snus will taste a bit strange at first, REALLY salty. This is temporary, lasts as your body is getting acclimated to the salt. About a week for some, up to two weeks long after. Just stay patient, make NO firm impressions of the snus for a few weeks, WILL taste different a few weeks later.
Now, as for the cigarettes.
3+ years ago, I gad NO intention of quitting smoking, or even trying to try and quit. I started using snus for one reason. I supervised an outbound fundraising call center, and was leaving my floor more and more to smoke. My manager didn't care, but others noticed, and I hated Rob having to defend me. Read about snus, thought that might e the answer just to get me through my shift.
So I started using, but smoked when I wasn't at work. But funny, I found myself using snus more and more, smoking less and less. And one day, 4+ months later, I just stopped buying cigarettes.
Several things pushed me in that direction. The biggest at first was money. Lots of money. Cigarettes are just way more expensive than snus. I ended up cutting my tobacco budget by close to 70%. But another, less obvious thing happened. Snus nicotine delivery is just way better than smokes. when you smoke, you are hit with a rush of nicotine that flees your bloodstream almost as fast as it comes, why folks are jonesing for another cigarettes 30 minutes later. but the nicotine in snus is like magic, it just stays and stays.
So over time, my body just preferred the nicotine from snus to smokes. Now, I love the fact that I almost never even think bout nicotine, I just use a snus every hour or so, and all is good.
Even after I topped buying, I would still every 3 months. That stopped after a few years. i also let myself bum one if I feel like one. Averages about one cigarette every 2 months now?? But as I have often posted, my favorite thing about snus is I can smoke now when I WANT, and never again have to becasue I need.
What is the average length of time one keeps snus in place for
a fix equivalent to a cig?
You'll get most of the nicotine in the first 30 minutes but you'll continue to keep getting decreasing levels of nicotine for 2 hours or more.
When I quit I chain snused. I kept one in for 2 hours and then replaced it with another and kept that one in for 2 hours and so on. That way I always had a steady level of nicotine so I never experienced withdrawals.
You'll just have to experiment and see what works for you.
