    Welcome Laguna!

The only advice I really have is try as much different snus as you can, and don't worry about quitting smoking. It'll come when the time is right. Just keep up with the snus, and your cigarette smoking should naturally taper off. It might take a year or so, but what's a year after 20, eh?

I found that knocking off about three weeks without the sticks (and I mean any at all) totally changed my perception of/physical reaction to the things.

You should understand that you will slip up, and that the great thing about snus is that cigs no longer have you by the nads, so you can phase your cig usage out into snus gradually as you feel comfortable.

At the same time though, after three unsuccessful attempts to quit before snus, I feel that the three week mark was the change for me. I will still burn down a heater if I am intoxicated, sure, but I have to be drunk to enjoy it.

You might try some snuff also. I would have never envisioned nasal snuff in my future a year ago, but it does a nice job of giving both the instant gratification/sensory explosion that cigs do.

Welcome to the forum, and stick with it. Ask all the questions you need to.

        Welcome to the forum.

I came to snus from dip and have never looked back. However, I am sure that there will be plenty of x-smokers along to share their story.

Also, it won't take you long just reading other threads to run across even more success stories.

Relax, try a variety, work some starks for those moments of craving (like when you used to have the first cig of the day) and give it time.

good luck and keep us posted on how it is going

Welcome! It took me a month or so before I really "quit". I still have one at the bar from time to time...

Welcome to Snuson. It took me about 4 months of snussin before I gave up the cigs. I started nasal snuff around that time, which is what I think finally kicked the cigs for good. What kind of snus are you using? Have you tried sterks yet?

Just to sum up for the question Veganpunk asked about the extra steks, I can pretty much promise you with a Oden's extra sterk portion in your mouth, a cigarette will be the last thing on your mind (if at all).

Thanks Veganpunk- Im using a pretty good variety of snus:
                General mints

                general white

                general onyx (my strongest)

                Thunder frosted minis

                L02

                catch

I might give the snuff a try. Any websites that offer a free sample to see if you will like it? Also ive heard some pretty bad horror stories about snuff plugging your nose up, and all sorts of nose problems. Has this been the case for you? Thanks alot for your help!!!

I haven't noticed any issues with snuff yet, but I don't use it all day every day either. Try some Thunder Frosted Original Portions, those will help kill those smoking urges! And like others have said, don't sweat the occasional cig, I always thought it was smoke one, smoke 2,000. It's not like that with snus. I can smoke a cig. now when I feel like it, and not even think about them for days, weeks, months.

http://www.snuson.com/viewtopic.php?t=4835 Read this link. It is long, but has a lot of helpful info in it.

If you like mint flavored, get the Poschl sampler from Mr. Snuff.com Most people suggest Toque to start out with, but I found it to be a finer, harder to start with snuff then the Poschl.

I'm right there with you Laguna! About 4 days into this endeavor and the road ahead is lookin mighty fine. Since I popped the first General White in my mouth on Monday I've had 3 cigs and really it seems to me that I only think of them out of habit. As in, just woke up? Time for a smoke. Wait... that sorta thing.

Everyone's different though. I've known 2 pack/day people stubborn enough to just drop it one day after 20 years because they finally got pissed off about the price. I've been more of a stand in the snow with a whole in my shoe to get a hit type. Only got 7 bucks left and need lunch/smokes... meh who needs food?

Basically my point is just listen to your body and let it happen at the right pace for you. From what I can tell it really is a natural process. You have 2 methods of nicotine supply available now. One kills you a little each time you use it, the other doesn't (or at least does it a hell of a lot less). Alternate between them as you see fit and the answer will finally sync up in your brain. Kinda like hitting your finger with a hammer while trying to hit a nail. You can't get better at hitting that nail vs. your finger based on logic or reason. You really know that you don't want to hit your finger, cause it hurts, but it just happens. After hitting enough nails though you'll get pretty good at it and your digits will thank you for it.

Also, in case you care, my theory on cigs is that they work two fold. The poisons tear you down and the nicotine brings you up. The net effect is that you feel like the cig made you feel so much better because first the poisons made you feel like shit. It all happens quick, and the good feeling leaves quick (15 min?) leaving you with just the poisons.

Here's an experiment for you to try as well, if you're up for it. Tomorrow morning instead of your morning cig pop a portion. Take it out after 20-30 minutes, give yourself 10 or so minute, and smoke a cig. Let us know if you get the same buzz from that cig as you did on previous mornings. My money is you won't, which is solid proof that the SNUS is providing all the nicotine that you'll benefit from so the only other thing you get from the cig is poison. Should be downhill from there.

                          Welcome to SnusOn
