    Stocking up and US Customs

I have placed a few orders now between northerner and buysnus shipped from Sweden and have recieved everything. I wanted to stock up a bit in case I can't get certain things once PACT takes full effect. I was mostly concerned with a couple of the purified types that only seem to be available through northerner in Sweden. I have been using standard mail but when I went to checkout this time, UPS was the only shipping option. The shipping was almost $40, so I added a bunch of other varieties that I was going to get seperately to the order just to see what would happen to the shipping and it only went up a couple of dollars, so my price per can goes down quite a bit with a larger order.

I'm concerned that if this order gets stopped at customs for some reason, I will lose a few hundred bucks and obviously I'd rather not. So has anybody had any problems with things like this coming into the US in large orders? I don't buy anything else directly from overseas, so I have no idea what customs does, but it would seem to me that if it might be an issue, it would be more of an issue with a larger shippment. I could be completely wrong (and I hope I have nothing to worry about)

    Any help would be appreciated.

I have never had a problem getting up to five rolls into the US. I do not see why it would there would be any problems with a large order. You might get a UPS brokerage fee in the mail a few days after the package comes but you should be fine.

That's good to hear. Any idea what a brokerage fee from UPS might cost? BTW, Thanks for the quick reply.

        That's how we roll.

The only one I got was 15 and change from ordering from snus.com (owned by Northerner) on a 50 can order. They have a better bulk pricing structure but if it comes from Sweden via UPS expect a brokerage fee..

Thanks for the info. $15 on top of the $40 shipping charge would suck for most things, but at an average of $5/can with shipping, etc. this is still a hell of a lot cheaper than smoking a pack a day!

Just an update... I played around with my order a little more, and got it down small enough to use standard mail. I am now splitting my shippments into items that I can only get from the warehouse in sweden and then everything else comes from the US. It takes a little more thought to place an order this way, but the shipping cost is much lower. I will need to place multiple similar orders from sweden to get what I was originally ordering but spending ~$6 on shipping several times is cheaper and if an order does get lost, it will be a more acceptable amount of money to lose. I also order through buysnus and getsnus to get the lowest price on the verieties I want to try and/or stock up on. Maybe it's just me, but I am having way too much fun picking out flavors and placing orders

Have you tried getsnus.com? they have a US warehouse and orders over $50 gets free shipping. they are OOS on many snus right now...at least you will have another option

Yup, just placed an order with GetSnus yesterday and it shipped early this morning so I should have it in the next couple of days. I have used Northerner, BuySnus and GetSnus and found a local tobacco shop that stocks a small fridge of General so I have multiple sources for now and am using all of them... again, having too much fun buying, and spending a little more than I had planned, but to quit smoking without the cravings and bad mood is worth way more than I've spent.

I still don't fully appreciate the connection between buysnus and snuscentral, perhaps someone in the know could shed some light on that but....

Do some comparison shopping on pricing and you'll find snuscentral is lower, significantly so in many cases, then buysnus.

I've only placed 2 orders with snuscentral so far but again, killer pricing, comparable shipping cost and the shipping time beat the pants off of Northerner! Go figure that one!

According to the law you are a private broker and therefore must comply with all brokerage regulations. (now here is the kicker) At this point there are no regulations for individuals acting as private brokers.

The point: UPS cannot charge you that fee. I hope you threw it in the trash.

Can you explain the brokerage fee for all us newbies here?

Are taxes also technically due to one's own State as Internet Cigs are? I had ordered
some cigs a few years ago online. I had hoped to do everything legit with snus, if possible. :-)

What will the Pact Act do? Make the online retailers withhold each State's tobacco tax?

ive never paid one in 3-5 years of buying snus and using ups for shipping. not telling anyone else not to but they are full of crap if they think i will pay it. the fee they want $5 is about 0.10 to 0.50 cost to them according to how much you buy. i am not an expert on the subject except being an expert non-payer ;-) other than that i donno

Can you elaborate a bit? Have you received a bill and if so how much per snus order?

                          thanks

Joe I have never received such a bill in all my many orders. As far as the brokerage fee itself, it is basically an extra charge made by the carrier for getting your parcel through customs more quickly. It is a service and not a tax. Furthermore it is a service that is not necessary nor one that was requested by the buyer. I'm simply not paying it. If I ever get such a bill it's going in the trash along with any future notices they will send

Regardless, I would not worry too much about it. It does not seem to be that common in the USA (shipments to Canada though seem to have them more often)

                            Hope this helps

                              OK. Thanks Snusdog.

Does it happen when Northerner ships from their USA warehouse?

Just curious. It wouldn't stop me from buying snus now.

I'd rather fight than switch. Or was that an old Tareton ad? :-)
