I've been using General snus because it's available at a local cigar shop, but I'm wondering what other brands are available to purchase in stores? I'd like to try a few different brands but would prefer to not buy online, so I'm trying to see if I can find some places to buy it around me (in northern NJ). Anyone happen to know some good brands are available for purchase "offline" besides General?

I don't mean to sound pessimistic, but I really don't see snus being popular like it is in Sweden, and the reason, I believe is just culture, Snus has a history in Sweden, and is a revered home practice of use. In the US, it is not, though, apart from smoking, which to me, worldwide just seems more like a habit, than a tradition, or tobacco culture, but the US's smokeless heritage is chew and dip mainly, dip being more popular. While Sweden has Ettan, the US has Copenhagen. I think it will remain a niche item.

I tend to agree with you Tom.Originally posted by tom502 View PostI don't mean to sound pessimistic, but I really don't see snus being popular like it is in Sweden, and the reason, I believe is just culture, Snus has a history in Sweden, and is a revered home practice of use. But, I can still dream can't I?

The local stores where I buy my General certainly are. Just last week, the tobacconist where I buy most of mine got in a big new shipment with the butt-ugly new warning labels all over it.Originally posted by Ragnar View PostHere's what I'm wondering:
Are local tobacco shops still stocking General? Will they continue to?
The silver lining of PACT may be there is actually more availability of Swedish snus in local stores since it makes mail-order less attractive and means buyers have to pay local taxes whether ordering from out of state or buying locally. But I agree with snusgetter that local stores will only continue to stock snus if it is profitable. So the more American snusers the better!

But then again dip started out as snus.Originally posted by tom502 View PostI don't mean to sound pessimistic, but I really don't see snus being popular like it is in Sweden, and the reason, I believe is just culture, Snus has a history in Sweden, and is a revered home practice of use. I have read many non-jiving histories on the evolution of tobacco use. I do find it interesting, and wish there was like a tobacco museum, that actually shows the products that were first made, like what was the first name brand chewing tobacco? Which dip company first made Straight flavor? We know there were some localized snus can here in the early US from Swedish immigrants, but it wasn't a national product. And then snus started as a nasal snuff, from what I gather in Sweden.
It is interesting, and with so many tobacco history afficianados, it would be nice to see an indepth visual museum of oral tobacco products(cigs would be interesting too).
