    UK Snus Newbie

    Hi,

Just discovered Snus and I'm down to my last two pouches!!

My girlfriends brother-in-law was over visiting from Norway last week and introduced me to snus. At first I wasn't too sure about it, he reassured me it would take a few tries and then I would take to it - he wasn't wrong. He left me a can before he left (Nick and Johnny Strong) but now I only have two pouces left and no way to buy anymore!! I'm just wondering if there are any UK users on here who know the best and most importantly quickest places to buy snus. Also, I'm noticing that I have to spit a bit while using snus, does this change if I switch to white snus?

    Thanks

    Si

    Welcome to the site big.

I am not from the UK but if i remember correctly i have heard good things regarding buysnus and northerner for the UK. I'd be more inclined to use buysnus currently since northerner has been flooded with orders lately.

Where are you placing the snus? The further forward you place it the less saliva you will produce. I have never really felt a need to spit myself, regular, white, or lös.

      Hi Dead,

Thanks for getting back to me. I'll try buysnus and see what the deal is for ordering to the UK. I really want to get some more snus soon as I'm hoping to quit smoking altogether due to bronchitus.

I'm putting the pouches under my top lip, around three teeth-width from my front teeth. After about 10mins of having it in I begin to get the juice in my mouth and feel the need to spit.

Welcome! Nice to see folks from the UK joining up -- I think Frosted has been feeling a bit lonely.

The urge to spit should pass very quickly. It may be because you're using strong portions instead of regular, or because the flavor doesn't suit you. I felt the need to spit with my very first portion of General, but that was the only time.

Nick & Johnny ... one of my favorites and now, I believe, available in a white.

As far as placement goes, I find that the further away from the dead-center front of the lip the more juice -- and trust me, some of these (especially non-whites) can sometimes turn into a veritable waterfall if not placed correctly.

btw, WELCOME to Snuson and the wonderful bedlam you can find here from time-to-time!!

The urge to spit will go away...that is if you're not creating the extra saliva yourself. Like others have said, place it close to the center on the top. My first few portions required me to spit but I moved to snus from dip and some of that was simply conditioning. If you've ever swallowed a bunch of dip juice you know what I mean. Also, try drinking something with it. The buildup of flavor in your mouth might trigger your salivary glands to produce more spit. This happens to me if I play with it while it's in my mouth. My advice is to press it up in your lip a little. Sort of pack it up there so the tobacco is not loose. The most important part is to then forget it's there. The lump in your lip will settle down a little in a few minutes but refrain from squeezing it, sucking on it, licking it, moving it around too much, etc. Still, for me once I move it from the initial parking spot it's not long for my mouth.

Don't know how to get snus in the UK...sorry, I can't help on that front.

Greetings bigsize from an exiled ex-pat. I'd recommend Buysnus and Northerner (although one of our UK members has had a bad recent experience with Northerner, I'll look for the thread). I'd also recommend placing the pouch directly to the right or left of the stringy-thing in your top lip. If concealment is high on your priority list I'd strongly recommend Swedish Match's 01/02 series of pouched snus which are longer and thinner but contain the same amount of snus.

Welcome - nice to see another UK member. I'm in London.

Do not order from Northerner at the moment - there's a few teething problems going on and I expect them to go on for just a little while longer. They seem to be ironing it out though now.
Order from www.buysnus.com or www.snusexpress.com - they're the same company. They're very fast and they're very good.

I agree with that. 02 portions were some of my first snus, and they are a great fit.

Welcome to snuson. I recommend buysnus.com for UK orders based off of what others have said. They are great in the U.S. as well, but they ship straight from Sweden so it should be cheaper and quicker to arrive to you.

Hello bigsize. I'm in the UK too and have been ordering from Northerner for the last three months since I stopped smoking and started snusing. I was just thinking of trying Buysnus as I have heard great things about them, but I'm only a few more cans from getting a free roll of snus from Northerner (all the sites seem to have a point system which gets you free snus when you have enough to cash in) , so maybe I will have a go after that.

The biggest two issues with being a UK snuser are:

                    1. It's basically illegal. I would be very shocked if the police gave a damn about me using it, but that is why you can't buy it in shops in the UK.

                    2. The tobacco tax and the VAT make it kinda expensive in the EU (and crazy cheap in the US), but with all this PACT stuff our american friends are going through, it seems like this is leveling out. This is why I have have joined the snuson.com VIP programe as you can buy up to 50 cans every three months with no tobacco tax or VAT added. So if you really get into the snus I would recommend checking it out.

                    Snus on!

Methinks I may order some Lucky Strikes and some other items I can't get here and ship them to granny's house for my trip in September. If I order from Northerner there's a chance they may get there before I arrive.

It's not illegal mate. It's just illegal to sell it within the country. It is not illegal to use it.

I haven't had any problems with Northerner. Ordered last Monday and it got here on Thursday. I'd suggest comparing prices before ordering.

White portions may have less "juice" but ultimately it is something you just have get used to. Try the new N&J white portions or Skruf Stark White.

You don't order Thunder Frosted then.

No I don't. I don't like any type if mint snus or any V2 snus for that matter. But I would assume that the lack of stock is due to its popularity. I remember someone posting that V2 was having trouble keeping up. Overall though I haven't seen any difference in service from Northerner. Prompt dispatch and on my desk in the standard 3-4 days.
