Snus Newb with a gums question.

Hello all. I'm a snus-newb. I started using (real) snus a few weeks ago. I had been using Camel for a few months, til I realized that the Swedes seem to have it down.

Anyway, here is my question: Does anyone else get almost leathery feeling gums where they snus? I use General Mini Portion Wintergreen.

Any info would be great. Thanks!

Yes, but it tends to diminish over time. I used to get it more often than I do now, usually on days when I snused more than was usual for me at the time. I also found that, for me at least, white portions caused this a lot more than original portions. I now use mostly original portions, and maybe just one or two white portions on a typical day, and I hardly ever get the gum issue--start to feel it a little bit if I happen to use several white portions during a day or keep one in for a very long time. The General Wintergreen comes only in white portions, so switching to original portions would require you to switch flavors. (In General, only "regular" General flavor comes in original portions. Maybe someone knows a wintergreen brand that comes in original portions.)

    Welcome and happy snusing!

I get some irritation with portions, but I use 90 percent los anyway and am not as acclimated to portion material as others here. I never got leathery gums from snus. It probably is the salt drawing the moisture out of your gums and in that case, there is nothing to worry about. You'll get used to having the salty snus there and it won't be as bad/noticable after a few weeks.

Dip was another story all together and that stuff tore up my gums.

Edit: Welcome! Jakobsson's wintergreen is a regular portion as is Offroad. (Jak's is better)

Welcome MusicMan and No I can't say I really get the leathery gums but I used to with dip tobacco along with random canker sores and whatnot. Liandri says It's the fiberglass and formaldehyde that caused this so thankfully since these ingredients aren't in Swedish Snus, my gums are much happier now.

I get it with the wintergreen snus too, have you tried the original?

He must be the General White/Wintergreen, not the Gen Mini-Mint.

Wintergreen does cause me some mild irritation. I don't use them regularly.

              Yes, it's White Wintergreen portions.

Thanks everyone for the info! I'm sure I'll be browsing around a lot. Glad to be here.

It happens sometimes, sometimes you might get a numb feeling as well. It's normal, not doing much harm. :P
