    Another Snus Noob Here

Hi, just wanted to say hi to the forum. Lots of good info here.

I've been snusing about 2 weeks now. I've been a smoker for about 19 years, and a couple months ago the wife convinced me to try giving up cigs (she was a smoker and quit cold turkey 6 years ago when pregnant with our son). So I tried the nic gum and found it helped a little. I was able to cut down from a pack a day to anywhere from 1 to 5 a day. But the gum wouldn't totally eliminate a craving and usually it was back in full force within an hour. So I struggled along trying to quit but still having a couple smokes almost every day. Then I remembered I had a coupon for a free pack of Marlboro Snus with a pack of cigs so I picked one up in spearmint flavor. Seemed too sweet for my taste and didn't seem to help any more than the gum. Anyway as a result of getting that pack of Marb Snus I did some searching on the net and found out about real snus and how it has helped so many in Sweden get off cigs. So I thought why not give it a try. I placed an order with getsnus and waited, and waited... (it still hasn't shipped, LOL). Then I found the General store locator and found a shop that carries General (they also stock a few other brands) and picked up some General Mini Mint and General Mint and loved them. Since that day I have not bought another pack of smokes. The few smokes I had since then I really noticed how bad they taste and how bad I smelled afterward. So after reading up a bit I placed an order with Snuscentral as they seem to have their act together better than getsnus/northerner (ordered Monday, and arrived today ).

All in all I'm happy finding out about snus. I'm not all cranky from nic withdrawal like I was with the gum and feeling a lot healthier. Even went to a gym the first time in 10 years yesterday. Hopefully very soon I can call myself a non-smoker maybe even get off nic completely someday. But for now I'm just going to enjoy my snus....

Sorry this sort of turned into a wall of text

I'm intrigued--I thought General was the only Swedish brand available in U.S. stores so far. Any idea what the other brands were that this store stocked?

Welcome to the board! It's great to have you. Your story sounds like a carbon copy of mine. General mint is still my favorite out of all the brands and types I've tried. That marlboro coupon got the ball rolling for me. I'm about two months in myself. Remember once you get your order if you don't like a certain brand don't toss it. Throw it in the freezer and revisit it in a couple months. Once you quit smoking your taste changes dramaticly.

I know they have Thunder Frosted ES in their fridge. Man that stuff will knock your socks off, limiting my self to one a day of those. Also some sort of Nordic Ice stuff. Next time stop in I'll investigate what else is in the fridge.

Cool. Sounds promising. I loves me my General, but I look forward to the day when I can get some Swedish variety off a local store shelf.

Wow, they have Thunder. I would not recommend the Nordic Ice.

              Congrats and welcome!
I think it's normal for cigarettes to taste horrible after you discover snus. Should you really have a craving, don't fight it; many can easily have a cigarette now and then because snus always wins.

Same deal but I went off 22 years in one day to Snus. It was difficult but can be done if you make the decision. Close to 2.5 years smoke free now.
Did voluntarily slip a couple of times but after 2 years now I really feel like I have no interest in sucking big tobacco chemicals in my lungs.

There might be that off night or vacation but not sure anymore. I have been using those mini cigars on vacation and just dont inhale them.

Welcome to snuson, and congrats on beating back the cigs.

Marlboro Snus coupon, google, finding out about Swedish Snus, ordering, quitting smoking.......Yep, your story sounds exactly like mine.

Where are you located? I'm jealous that you can walk in a local store and pick up some Thunder Frosted. All my store carries is General, and I was under the impression that was all that was available.

I'm in Rochester, NY. BTW the Thunder does not appear to be packaged for US consumption. Only has a warning label on the bottom of the tin and not in English.
