I have never experienced it with snus, but I do experience it with dip occasionally on an empty stomach. But not near as much when I was younger. So yes, it's perfectly normal. It's basically the nerves of your diaphragm becoming irritated. Excessive alcohol or spicy foods will cause the same effect. After a while, you should develop a stronger tolerance.
I think hiccups are the first sign of you body telling you woah...too much nicotine. You'll either build your tolerance or choose not to. I also heard that hiccups are a sort of spasm which would tell me that something is awry in the body...it's trying to deal with the nic. Obviously it's very hard to OD on snus or nic in general in the common mediums so you'll be fine. There's many people on here that can take amounts that would down a horse.
The nerves that control the diaphragm are particularly sensitive to nicotine, or so I've heard. When you reach the upper limits of your nicotine tolerance, you get the hiccups as a result. Happens with pipe smoking, too.
I'd say niccups are pretty normal. I think every time I have gotten them its with a sterk snus or a big dip, and they go away almost as soon as I remove the tobacco. Probably different for everyone, but I have always treated them how WK describes them, as a kind of warning sign that its time to slow down.
Don't worry Shag. I still get hiccups every once in a while.
And remember.....there are no stupid questions. But there are plenty of stupid people.
Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to hide the bodies of the people I killed because they were annoying......
I've been wrong lots of times. Lots of times I've thought I was wrong only to find out that I was right in the beginning.
