Newb Snuser just got my order!

Hey everyone, i am glad to say i received my first order of snus and am hoping for the best.
I received:

Skruf Original, White Portion
Tre Ankare, White Portion
Lucky Strike, White Portion
Lucky Strike Bold, Portion
General, White Portion
Grovsnus, White Portion
Ettan, Portion

I have not tried anything yet but will post my frist impressions as soon as i do Oh, I am from British Columbia Canada as well and was hit with a nice $56 customs charge on this order (makes me sick that i am trying to move from cancer sticks to something science has proven time and time again to be 90-99% safer and yet i have to pay out a good sum of money to my tax happy gov)

A little bit about my self. I have been smoking for 9 years and although i do love smoking it does not agree with my body. I have a bad cough and the doctor says that my lungs just never got used to smoking and still put up a fight to clear out the tar all the time. I did have X-Ray's and a lug function test and nothing came back of concern. But why wait until it does right?

My ancestory is half Swedish as well, and i remember my grandfather telling me about how when they came from Sweden they missed Snus dearly and could not get it in Canada so they would smoke or snuff. I was surprised to hear about snus a few months back when i was looking into E-cigs as a way to quit and immediately started to research it and was shocked to hear that this old and very traditional method of tobacco use from Sweden was really exploding on the internet and in Sweden as a way to get people off the cigs.

So I have my Snus and i am excited! I am not worried about the salty taste so much that people talk about when they are new (as long as its not like a salt bag) as i enjoy bitter tastes and understand that many of the finer things in life take time to enjoy and acquire a taste for. I opened a can of General White and smelled it out of curiousity and i thought it smelled very nice (tobacco with a hint of potpourri?) which was a small relief.

So i will give my first impressions soon, I will start against many peoples advice with General White portion because I am not afraid of the pronounced taste.

Sorry about the long winded nature of this post, just thought i would try and sum up my situation and my thoughts as a newb lol!

Welcome Vizzle. Good luck and enjoy. It would be worth the 2 hr drive up there to be able to get Lucky Strike. I would even stay until the can was finished (I am sure I could find something to do for a few days).

Welcome man! Sucks about the tax charges but you can get a lot of snus that we can't get here in the states.

Watch out for that can sniffing behavior. Not really recommended because a large percentage of versions do not smell like they taste. Some can be downright offputting when concentrated in the can yet taste great individually.

Hi Vizzle, welcome to the Snus world. I hope that you get to like it like me. I'm from Quebec so I know about the insane taxes, it almost made me quit with disgust after I've been hit with my first 30$ tax bill for 5 cans but eventually decided it was worth it. I switched from smoking to Snus 2 or 3 months ago, I did it gradually but it didn't take long to completely make the switch. I tried to stop many times over the years and succeeded for up to 3 years one time with the patches but this is by far the easiest method I used and I don't have to deal with the "something's missing" feeling I had when I've quit everytime.

The best part is that I don't fear going back to smokes full time when I smoke a couple at a party occasionally, once the party is over, I go back to Snus like nothing happened. I tried the e-cigs for a while but it didn't work too well for me, I really tried to like them but they gave me heartburns, I had an nicotine overdose once from 24mg cartomizers (not fun) and I didn't like the lack of consistency in quality and experience. With Snus, I always get what I expect.

I've tried many flavors but here are some of my favorites so far:

Lucky Strike white
General Wintergreen white (Burns the gums and tastes like Crest toothpaste, mmmm)
Ettan loose
Grov white
Gotlands Yellow loose

Here's a tip when you feel you get charged too much at the customs, you can ask the post office clerk to have your package sent back to the customs for a reassessment. I saved myself 30$ that way and it took about a week. Also, look for a topic called "Tobacco taxes in Canada", Snarfblat was kind enough to post the tax details to calculate what we should expect in taxes so that should give you a better idea. Note that some of your packages will go through without any additional charges if you didn't know already. For me its been about 1 out of 3.

I really didn't like the smell of the first General white can I got from my first order but the ammonia smell doesn't bother me anymore, I barely notice it now. I assume this is what people don't like. But every non snussers that asked me to take a sniff were disgusted so... good advice.

I'm new here also just my first shipment this week of snus and loving it , so far the favorites that I have opened are :

Lucky strike bold - great lemony tobacco taste mmm mmm good savoring this can I have only had 2 portions

Roda lacket white - great mellow tobacco taste with and nice saltiness

Skruf Tranbar - nice taste don't get the cran taste more a banana taste imo

General mint white - nice refreshing mint flavor

Chaini Khaini Mango white - hmmm the taste of india , ick taste like vicks vapo rub no mango there at all , thumbs down

For me as of right now Snus is just a treat and I will use it when in public where I don't want to explain my E-cigs to everyone
and do to the crazy duty I don't want to become super dependant on it until I can find a sure fire way of getting it in duty free
I may have some sent to the USA and just bring it back myself , but it sucks I can't get the Lucky strike bold that way
