Wow so many replies! Thank you everyone your insight and comments have been very welcome. I just popped my first portion in 30 minutes ago and thought i would explain the taste and effects for people who are wondering about snus and are on the fence about it. I had planned to finish the carton of cigs i had before snusing but i was just to filled with curiosity. General White Portion is what i tried and these are my thoughts:
The nic hit is definitely noticeable to me, sitting here as someone who smokes a little over a pack a day and would consider himself as someone with a good nicotine tolerance i am a bit surprised! I am really buzzed (nothing uncomfortable or bothersome though) and can say that snus really does deliver a good kick and that although i wanted a cig before i put the snus in, the thought of one now seems very very unappealing.
Now to the taste. I can see what people mean when I had read about "peppery" taste that seems to accompany many snus brands (once again it is not anything horrible or annoying just very prevelant) and on one swallow i coughed a bit from the slight burn at the back of my throat. Also i can taste the salt but it is by no means overwhelming to me but i can see how others may find it a bit harsh. The base flavor is interesting it is unlike anything i have tasted before and i can say that it is not that appealing to me (yet) but at the same time i can honestly say it is not unappealing either. I know that may sound strange but the flavor to me really is that hard to judge at this time.
The nicotine delivery in snus is fantastic to say the least, it scales very well it is not a punch in the face that runs away quickly nor something that leaves you feeling cheated. Also i must say that for someone new to snus like myself a "mini" may not be a bad idea either (unless you are a very heavy smoker) as I can safely say i can see them coming in handy for many occasions as well as starting to build your tolerance for snus.
All in all i am happy and so are my lungs
Now i cannot wait to try the different flavors in my fridge!
