I can't really tell if I like Kapten Los yet or not. It is definitely plain. Not a lot of smoke flavoring if any and not a lot of salt. There is a slightly bitter bite to it that kind of reminds me of a very mild juniper berry. Definitely not bergamot. The tobacco flavor is more pronounced than anything else. It kind of reminds me of smoking a Benson and Hedges cigarette. I want to like it and everything I like is there but it is not quite right for some reason. It makes me long for the return of Pioneer. Maybe I can give a better assessment after trying it for a few days. The one thing I am not liking right now is the 37 gram can.

OK now for my long term review. Kapten is not bad. The can smells a bit like Raid when you open it but the taste is quite smooth and I can easily use this snus all day. The nic hit seems normal. The nice thing about this snus is the grind. It is very soft but it stays in place. There are other brands such as Ettan and Granit I would order first but I will gladly by Kapten when it is on sale. I would give Kapten a 7 out of 10. Slightly better than average overall.

I have never tried Phantom Brown. It sounds scary! I think Chad nailed Kapten when he compared it to Gustavus on his blog. A very muted Gustavus in a small can. I do agree that the 37 gram can sucks especially since they want about $5 a tin for this stuff. Still, its a pretty decent snus. I always though Gustavus was a bit overwhelming.

Might be worth a gamble as an addon to a regular order though.
