I was drunk and posted my review in the wrong place so here it is. And I was drunk.

You know this may because I'm a little drunk but I think the Marlboro Spearmint snus is OK. I put a portion in about 15 min. ago and the nic is holding me just fine for now. I wouldnt reccomend this for everyday use but for the free 6 pack I got from my brother in-law it is doing what it is supposed to do. I also dissected it and there is no flavor strip in this one. It tastes just like spearmint gum and is OK by me. You may have your own opinion, but I think it is good for when you run out, better than a Camel Frost IMHO.

Trying it thismorning I get NO nic feel. So it was because I was drunk (and all the snuff I did before I tried it) I didnt notice the lack of nicotine.

EDIT: It does have the flavor strip, its in the portion material.

I had a pile of the coupons to get the Marlboro snus free, so naturally I got all 4 flavors. I hated all of them. Nicotine content is almost nonexistent, the high sugar gave me mild nausea, and they didn't even taste that good.

I'd rather pay for General than get Marlboro for free.

I hated the Rich and Mild, but the Spearmint wasn't bad. Reminds me of Wrigley's Spearmint gum.

Got another Rich in right now. I asked my wife to check the gas station for the new stuff. They didnt have any so she got me this. I'm not craving more nic so far with it in and the flavor IS enjoyable... But it isn't dripping yet and I also haven't chained them. In my last experience these got sickening on the 2nd or 3rd portion. I don't know... I like em better than any of the Camel snus varieties.

I picked up a can of the Marlboro Original yesterday. I paid $3.59 at a Hess gas station in Massachusetts. The can is plastic with a metal lid. The pouches are very soft and comfortable in the lip, this is one thing that Marlboro got right.

I think that the flavor is a bit like what a chewing tobacco candy might taste like. Not much salt taste at all compared to Swedish snus or American dip. The flavor lasts a long time, but I find that I get tired of the sweetness long before the flavor runs out. Not sure about the nicotine, but I'd guess it is in the 6-8mg range.

Marlboro "Snus" 2011 (Round Can Edition) Review

I stopped into my local gas station to get my morning Red Bull and behind the counter I see the new Marlboro "Snus". I didn't plan on reviewing this until my Skoal "SNUS" came in from a friend out of state, but since I saw it I figured I might as well go ahead and pick some up and write about it. I've been quite curious about this stuff. In the past, I've been none too impressed with American "snus" products, so I really, really, really wanted to like this. I wanted it to be good, I really did. I'm an optimist.

              Larger Image - http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_G2KIETJONE.../Evolution.jpg
To backtrack a little, Marlboro "Snus" has gone through quite a few changes. In October 2009 the product was test marketed. In April 2010 the product went through a national release. This month it was announced that a new Marlboro "Snus" was going to come out in round cans with more portions. Before writing my last article, I spoke with a rep at Altria who told me the following about the new "snus". "The can will be 1 gram, and will have 15 portions per tin (this is what the consumer relations lady said from her packet of info she had)." Well, obviously that was wrong because these portions are freakin' huge, much like the maxi pad since of the new Camel "SNUS".

The new "snus" products come in Original and Mint (of course), and are pretty big, I'll show a size comparison below between some other snuses just to relate. The snus is very dry, which we'll get into more of later. The Mint may look more moist by looking at the portion, but I believe that's the oil from the mint flavoring that has soaked into the portion material, it's not actually more moist (as the cut test will show us). Another interesting tidbit is that the cans say "30% Domestic Tobacco, 70% Import Tobacco".

Doing a size comparison you can see how much this "snus" has grown. Left to right, General White Portion, Marlboro "snus" Rich (package edition), Marlboro "Snus" Original (2011 Round Can Edition), Camel "SNUS" Winterchill. They took a note out of the new Camel "SNUS" book and made their portions huge, using the Maxi-Pad Size. These new ones dwarf the original mini size of the package edition of Marlboro "snus". These portions are WAY too big and very uncomfortable.

Okay, the important question. has the "snus" itself improved? Well, yes and no. Doing a cut test will reveal all! Click the image/link on the left and you can see a full size version of this picture. On the left, note General White Portion. Real Swedish Snus is moist, around 50% moisture content. Next to that you can see the original Marlboro "snus" which is around 11-12% moisture content. And then next to those you can see the new Marlboro "Snus" products. Have they improved? The snus is more moist than the former Marlboro "snus" incarnation. I want to say it's between 20%-30% moisture content by my estimation. But the "snus" is still very dry. And that simply isn't snus. So they have improved by adding more moisture to their snus, but not enough. It still looks like dry cigarette tobacco, much like the Camel "SNUS". Okay, so a little review of each.

Marlboro "Snus" Original. Opening the can I quickly realized this "snus" had failed me. The sickingly sweet aroma that came through was oddly reminiscent of Camel "SNUS" Robust. The portion was large, dry, and uncomfortable. The taste of the "snus" was way too sweet, and after about 30 minutes it was simply too much. This "snus" is just as weak as the previous mini version and I couldn't even pick up any nicotine hit, not even a moderate one. I was really hoping this snus would be stronger and have a great tobacco flavor but Altria failed miserably with this one.

To go along with the stereotype that every American adores the flavor of Mint, Marlboro "Snus" Mint was the other "snus" released in the new format. The aroma of this one was a very, very sweet spearmint. The "snus" portions may look more moist at first glance, but the cut test revealed that simply isn't true and it's my belief it's the oil used to add the mint flavoring that soaked into the portion material to make it look more moist. The flavor is way, way, way, way, way too sweet and after about 30 minutes it turns gross and I just couldn't keep this thing in my lip. No nicotine hit to speak of.

So that's that. The new Marlboro "snus" is simply unimpressive. More "snus", same crap product. Altria failed to do anything to improved their previous product other than making the "snus" itself a little more moist, but other than that there are no redeeming factors for this "snus" whatsoever other than a cool can to add to my collection. I hope someday American tobacco manufacturers will make a good snus instead of automatically assuming it has to be big and way too sweet for us to like it. Because that simply isn't the case for all snusers.

Great review. I have noticed from youtube vids, many if not most US snus users will lower lip them like dip pouches.

I think that is probably the reason they are so huge. The thinking is to create something similar to the dip pouch that would be a easier transition for current dippers. The upper lip thing makes no sense to a existing dippers in most cases. When I have shown directly dippers at work where to place a snus they look at me like I am crazy.

I haven't seen or tried this newer "snus" but am already disappointed by it, from your very thorough review. I had read somewhere that this year Marlboro was to market a stronger product, more in line with the nicotine one would get from snus or from cigarettes - I believe this would be approx 8 mg? - and I thought this canned product would be it. But I haven't found any nicotine data for this, and the data I've read for other and olderproducts is inconsistant, with figures for total nicotine and "free" nicotine and blood nicotine levels that vary from source to source. I'll be looking to try this, probably only once since I know what to expect from your post.

I kinda like the new Mint. Better than Camels Wintergreen.

Well this is actually what brought me to this forum... I knew there had to be something better than this crap. (This is my first post as well!)

My friend gave me one of these little 6 portion packs, and I was really afraid to try it at first... I'm not sure why. Well not only was the flavor crap, but it didn't hurt my gums or give me any vitamin N at all.

I've been trying all sorts of tobacco products (mostly just curious i suppose), from cigars and pipe tobacco all the way to cigarettes. I don't want to become a smoker at all, or even stick to doing a tobacco product for more than a couple weeks.
                          Until I found Snus

                          -But I digress.

Once again, this stuff is garbage. I tried the spearmint flavor, and it just tastes like a rotten piece of candy. The sugar content is overwhelming to say the least. I was also extremely uncomfortable swallowing it, so I ended up spitting like I was doing dip. This was all on a full stomach as well, so I can only imagine the discomfort if I hadn't eaten for more than 5 hours...

You don't get any tobacco taste at all, or any kind of nicotine like you would expect from a tobacco product. This "snus" has less nicotine than a cigarette, and it isn't ingested nearly as fast making for quite a dud in terms of the kick.

The flavor lasted for around an hour, and never got any better.

I truly wish I didn't attempt to keep it in as long as I did though, because the pouch actually broke open in my mouth!!! I was spitting little black and brown turds for a good 5 minutes afterwards.

This product is an absolute disgrace. What else would you expect from a company like the Phillip Morris though? They just want their cigarette smokers to STAY smokers. That is the only reason I could think of them coming out with such a shoddy product.
