    Pioneer Snuff

OK OK! The day has arrived, well, it came yesterday.

    PIONEER SNUFF!

This is my initial review. I did try 1 prilla yesterday, but it's a new day, just got up, made some coffee.....

OK, the can labels are made to sell in the USA, with warnings all preprinted on the side and top. I like how the can sticker looks, simple, yet effective. The plastic can though, is a bit cheapy, but it works.

Opening the can, mine was a little hard as the sticker with the serrations was not on the line of the lid, but I got it open.
Smell, it smells great, and does smell different than Swedish made, it's a lighter yet robust smell. Very nice.
Looks about the same as Swedish, though it seems a little more spongey, with lots of little ball like clumps, but the moisture if fine.
    Handbakes well, and easy.
Taste, this stuff is great, I have to force myself not to eat it. Has a distinct taste, similar to the smell, kinda airy, yet bold, and different than the General loose I've been using before I got this. I like this. I don't know if I can say it's better than made in Sweden snus, but it's right up there equally, yet stands out because it does have a distinct taste more of natural tobacco but of a different blend, well it's Laos grown tobacco, and yes, it is different, and very good.

Many new snus come and go, and some just arn't well received, like Olde Viking and Chaini Khaini, but this SHOULD be really liked. I'm getting a nic effect now, having this with my morning coffee. But this is HIGHLY recommended by me, it's great. In fact, I'd give this a 5 out of 5. Hmmm, I think it has a cigarish taste.

New loose snus from Laos, Pioneer Snuff, great great item.

I just got this stuff today and I am glad I ordered it. I will agree with Tom about the cans in that it took me about 2 minutes to pry it open. The snus inside is very moist, almost like clay, but not wet. This is a very easy snus to handbake. The flavor is like no other snus I have had. I almost has to say that it taste like a cigarette but not in a bad way. As a former smoker, I remember buying a pack every now and then that tasted like it just came fresh from the factory. Thats what this snus reminds me of. Real fresh and rich tobacco. As a bonus, the tobacco scent gently goes from your lip to your nose and you get a really clean tobacco scent the whole time you are using this snus. The flavor itself lasts quite a while and I didn't notice any loss in taste even after an hour. The snus itself seems slightly sweet but not sugary. More like a good pipe tobacco sweet. The grind of this snus is also quite soft and comfortable. The only thing I am wishing for is more salt as there is not really any noticeable salt taste to this. The one thing I do appreciate about this snus is that according to their website, no pesticides are used in their tobacco. If you want a good straight up tobacco flavored snus, you have found your match.

Delicious snus; like Ettan, without all the extra flavorings. Mild spiciness, comfortable pris, and the worst tin in the business :^D Oh well. If the tin were perfect it would offend the gods since a mortal dare not achieve perfection with their endeavors. Highly recommended for those that like their snus without a bunch of extra flavor. Just pure tobacco goodness without the junk you don't need. As a bonus, it's made by a tiny operation, and I prefer to give my money to that kind of business :^)

This stuff is awesome. Easiest snus to handbake by far, taste is amazing.
The cans just SUCK. Honestly, they don't seal great and the label is never lined up so you can't just crack the serations and open the can.
I finally got the can open and just put the snus in a different can. :/

This snus tastes soooooo good. But I would imagine it would be only for people who like the dark, earthy, rich taste of tobacco. Like those who enjoy a dark roast coffee or a good steak. It is not sharp or overbearing. I could use it all day. Has that peppery taste a little bit. I would imagine if there was an ancient tribe living in the deep jungles for centuries and they perfected a method of producing a tobacco with the perfect taste, consistancy and moisture level....It would be "Pioneer Snuff".

I just take a huge pinch and throw it in my lower lip off to the side. Stays in that area suprizingly well!

You were doing fine until you mentioned steak. Pioneer is one fantastic snus and I am glad you found it. Even after using rolls of this stuff, I never get bored with it. A little more nicotine and a better can and this would be the perfect snus.

Just received a roll of the latest 2012 crop -- first thing I noticed was the smell of black licorice. Can anyone who has used Pioneer before and has a fresh can now tell me if it seems to be the same? I wasn't expecting licorice.

yea I pick up a little licorice undertone.......though my guess is this is due to the kind of tobacco and curing verses flavoring............to me the flavor of pioneer is like an amped up Roda
When it's my time to go, I want to die peacefully in my sleep, like my uncle did....... Not screaming in terror like his passengers

That's my take on it also. I never really thought licorice, but since it was mentioned, I can see that. It's just the slightest hint, and I think it's more due to licorice being a complimentary flavor. Chocolate, raisin, and licorice are all flavors that go with tobacco, and bolster the natural taste. In any case, it's my favorite plain snus that's available on the market.
