Review from the blog!
Wow, has it really been since 29 June that I've wrote something? Not much has been going on in the world of snus lately, but today I'm going to be changing that and reviewing the new Oden's 59 portions! As many people know, Oden's Extreme 59 (Kanel) has been in production for quite sometime and it recently went on sale in webstores. I recently got my hands on some and I must say - it was definitely worth the wait!
On 29 September 2009, I wrote about Oden's Kanel Ekstra Sterk Portion. I really liked it, and it has quite the following in the snus world - I know of several people who use it. I liked it quite a lot when I tried it and have used it occasionally since then. Today I'm going to be writing about the newest release from GN Tobacco, Oden's Extreme 59 Portion. Oden's 59 is the newest snus in the Extreme line, containing 22mg of nicotine. It is "Kanel" flavored as well, Kanel of course meaning cinnamon in Swedish. GN has decided to drop the name Kanel with the newest release and go with the number 59 to describe cinnamon flavored snuses in their line. This also applies to the Loose version which I'll write about later, and any other releases that may come under this number. Why this number? When Oden's 69 came out I asked them and no particular reason, just a product number.
This snus has been in development for quite sometime, and now that I've gone through a can of it, I felt it was time to share my thoughts. As you can see from the pic - the 59 portions are very moist! The cans were originally rumored to be the new Oden's cans, I shared pictures of them in April, but upon release they're still the hockey puck cans. I'm sure in time that will change when they run out of them, but for now this is the current release form of Oden's 59. The aroma is very pleasant - a mellow cinnamon smell. It doesn't have the spicy/pepper smell of Oden's Extreme, which is interesting as I thought it would be mixed in there somewhere. The portions are full, and quite comfortable in the lip. The nicotine hit is quite strong, as is to be expected of a snus under the Extreme flag. The taste is very pleasant, a mellow and natural cinnamon taste with very little salt to speak of. Much like I observed with Oden's Kanel ES, it isn't a sweet cinnamon, but a very raw tasting cinnamon. There is a slight note of spiciness in the background, but not the peppery taste I've come to know and love with Extreme itself, it's much more an afterthought in this snus. The taste is great, and definitely worth the time we've waited for it's release. Big props to the folks at GN, another great release!

I would agree with Chad on this one.
Finally got my hands on a can from Northerner.
Very moist portions, great smell when you open the tin and then a very discrete Kanel sweetness when you pop one in with the Extreme nicotine blast, another GN hit!

Extreme 59 is truly a wonderful snus.
I love the extreme portions and los and, through the kindness of BigBlue got some portions of the 59.
I have been waiting patiently for this snus as I love cinnamon but am allergic to fake cinnamon flavorings.
Guess what.......Odens uses REAL cinnamon and this snus is fantastic.
Light cinnamon.......fantastic spicy tobacco flavor.......just wonderful. I have only had one portion of this so far.....and hope to have many more.
Thank you GN. This is an excellent snus from an excellent company.

Finally got around to trying some of these.
Can: Don't care for it. It's got the same kind of cans that the old Tourney snus did. Feels very cheap.
Portions: Probably one of the fullest portions I've had. Every pouch is packed very tightly with tobacco allowing a minimum of fluffing.
Taste: I don't taste ANY cinnamon in these. All of Odens' snus that I've tried has a bit of the same, funky flavor in the background (not bad flavor by the way). For those that have tried many Oden's, you know what flavor I'm talking about it. And that's all I get in this. I get it much stronger in taste than in anything else, but I do not get cinnamon. I've had the regular kanel and the ES kanel, which both have it in the background. When they changed the name to "59", did they take the cinnamon out or what?
Conclusion: I see no need for a snus with this amount of nicotine in it. It's just going to help the anti-tobacco zealots and it isn't needed.
If this wasn't branded as a cinnamon, I'd say it's OK, but nothing special. However, since it's supposed to be Kanel, I would say it's a failure.

I was really looking forward to a cinnamon snus but this one just does not fill that void. The cinnamon, actually, the flavor overall was way too muted, I actually think the regular "Extreme" has more flavor...this one was just bland to me. However, the portions are nice, fluffy and fat and the lacking flavor is tolerable..just wish the cinnamon was more pronounced. Odens receives 2 thumbs up though for simply offering cinnamon flavored snus! I'll just have to experiment and see if I can up the flavor a tad with some extract...guess I am looking for a really spicy cinnamon!

Lovely black, full portions and plenty of aroma upon opening the can.
As with the standard Extreme portion it takes a while for the nicotine and flavour to come through but when it does, it's full and flavoursome. There is a good tingle at the start.
Not getting much cinammon but bags of tobacco flavour. The cinammon does come through later though but it's very muted.
Loving the Extreme range (that's an understatement) - the quality is incredible. Outstanding flavour, excellent nicotine delivery. Yeah, I'm a huge fan - the Extreme range is my bag. Big time.

Finally got a chance to try this since buysnus had the free shipping thing going on. My first thought it smells like ass. It doesn't taste like cinnamon in any way shape or form, and now after 15 minutes my eye is starting to develop a tic and I can hear the ocean in my left ear. After about 15 minutes I got an ever so slight suggestion of cinnamon. But after trying to taste it this long I am quite sure it my brain playing tricks on my mouth.
I admit I like the little bit of an extra buzz I get(albeit slowly), I just don't care for the flavor. I tried a regular extreme portion this morning and found it somewhat pleasant compared to this piece of cardboard I have now.
Is Oden's consistent? Did I just get a bad can? I don't usually buy any GN products. Seriously I am getting no discernible flavor. OK maybe some funky stale tobacco thing going on but thats about it.

I havent tried the 59 so I don't have anything to add one way or the other
but that line was too good not to comment onWhen it's my time to go, I want to die peacefully in my sleep, like my uncle did....... Not screaming in terror like his passengers
