As far as I can tell these are a new addition to the Extreme line and come in a white version of the Extreme flip top cans with attractive orange and red design to mirror the red and gold on the standard Extreme portion cans.
They are advertised as 22mg nicotine - I'm not sure if that's per portion or per gram and that could be a confusing point with this product. The Oden's dry white portions are so dry that they are much lighter than their original portion counterparts, containing only 25% water as opposed to 45-50% in most white portions by other manufacturers. Another confusing thing is that you only get 14 portions in a can which is the least snus I've ever seen in a tin - fortunately that is reflected in the lower price but still ...
The upshot of this is in a portion which weighs 0.7g you get the same amount of tobacco as in a 1g portion of regular Extreme - it's just missing the water content.
So on to the snus itself: on opening the can there is a very aromatic smell which reminds me of some classic english snuffs - S.P no.1 comes to mind which indicates bergamot as a main flavour. It certainly doesn't have such a robust smell as regular Extreme does when you open the can. It's definitely more floral - but quite strong in a more perfumed way.
On putting one of these in your mouth there's a surprise - lip burn! In a good way - letting you know it's there doing it's stuff - I don't think that's from menthol or other cooling agents some snus has - it seems like it's from the tobacco itself. Because it is a dry white portion it takes a while for it to absorb the natural moisture from your mouth and until that process is complete it feels rather springy and pillow-like - but after about 5 minutes it settles down and starts feeling like snus again. For me, like many white portions, it develops a slightly more slimy texture than original portions over time - it's not unpleasant or unusual - it just sounds that way when I write it down in words!
So what about flavour? Well - I would say that the flavour is the same as regular Extreme, that is to say a floral deep bergamot with rich dark bitter undertones from the tobacco and a noticeable alkaline nature from the ingredients that give it it's strength. The flavour is very long-lasting, but develops differently from the originals ... the flavouring is dominant throughout and the tobacco only really reveals it's flavour after over half an hour of use but remains more muted than it is in the regular Extreme.
Conclusion - a very good snus with the trademark Extreme high nicotine and long slow delivery of the 22mg - quite strongly flavoured and possibly too floral for some - but definitely amazing value for money even if there are only 14 portions in a can - it currently is for sale on the Odens site at 160 SEK a roll which works out at £1.50 a can (US$2.45)
