Just got my sampler can in the mail from Adrian today and currently have my first portion in my mouth.

Initial thoughts...a hint of citrus, a fair amount of juniper, and a wallop of pepper. What's noticeable is the portion material. This is by far the softest I've ever encountered. It makes General white seem like sandpaper. It's very nicely balanced, and I could see myself keeping some of this one around for the long haul. I haven't tried the other flavors of Olde Viking, but frankly, this very much makes me want to.

copied my thoughts from the other thread below. I haven't tried the other Viking line up yet either.

Nice and plump portions. No one likes a floppy half full or less portion. When I buy tobacco I expect to get some tobacco. Gajane filled these soft pillows of nicotine goodness nice and fat. They topped them off with a nice amount of moisture. Just the way I like regular portions. Goldilocks style.... moist, but not soggy.

I smelled black pepper when I opened the can. The first portion was surprising, mostly because the can was sealed with clear shrink plastic around the rim. Nice. I guess being an American and living through the Tylenol poisoning has me thinking something's fishy if there isn't a seal to break on anything I'm ingesting.

I had the first portion before jumping into my car. Now- I gotta be honest. My car is my weakness. I smoke cigarettes when I drive. One or two a day at most, but something about cracking the window and flying down the road makes me want a coffin nail. Well, I arrived at my destination without lighting up.

I'd say this snus is slightly above average nicotine. 9 or 10mg by my barometer.

The flavor is salt and hops and dried orange peels. Salt and tobacco... I can see the comparisons to Gustavus and Granit for sure. Retro always tasted like gym socks to me. I like a blue cheese twang now and then. Olde Viking does not have it. GOOD. It does taste very good.

The portion is extremely comfortable. Plump, soft, and full. I had the good little lump that helps keep my anxiety down. Sometimes for some reason if i have a mini portion or a flat under-filled portion in I feel like something's wrong. Olde Viking Original is like having a two click 4ml Icetool prilla in.

I had the first portion in for an hour. I had a Pepsi about thirty minutes into it. IT WAS GOOD. It passed the Pepsi test. When I got to about 40 minutes is when I noticed the nicotine was running steady and strong. Like Thunder, but without the paranoia.

After dinner I had my third portion. (put one in before food came to table- sure fire way to make your food show up at a restaurant) So, I'm driving away from the restaurant and laughing and talking when I came up to a red light. Without thinking I opened the door and spit. For a second I thought I had a dip in. This snus is not flavorless by any means. It's not something that is distinctly flavored either. Never burned my throat, but I never thought, "this snus is spent and I should spit the portion out." I spit it out to eat and when my nicotine level was feeling good.

The flavor is dynamic. The pepper taste fades first, but the salt goes strong the whole time. I did get a slight floral aroma from the snus, not so much a taste, a nice aroma.

Overall I'd say this snus is a winner. Would I use it work? No, probably not. Fat lip and juicy flavor would be awkward at the office. Would I reach for this at home, a bar, a party, or any other time of day? Hell Yeah!

I hope it's not "Limited Edition" like the can says. I hope it's available post June, whatever. If I didn't have snus stuffed into every square inch of my freezer right now I'd order a roll of this right now. Unfortunately, my marriage has no room for more snus. My PACT ACT is coming excuse has run it's course.

GAJANE has a win with Olde Viking Original Portion!

I think this is a good snus. Has a good taste and moisture level, and the portions are comfortable. I also find it to get better with use. When I 1st tried it, I wasn't sure, it gave me some heartburn and made me wanna spit. But then it was not bad at all. A few slight heartburns, and some extra mouth liquid, but then it seems to have stopped. I've been using this exclusively a few days now, and it's really good. Goes good with any drink too. I was saying ti reminded me of Gustavus, but now I think I like it more. I would recommend it, but give it some time.

Maybe I got shipped a can that wasn't so fresh, but I've got to beg to differ. When I popped that first portion in, something about the flavour just didn't sit right. I wracked my brain trying to figure out what the unpleasant taste was and as close as I could figure, it tasted like a urinal cake that had been marinated in window cleaner. I spat it out, threw the rest of the can in the rubbish and reached for some Goteborgs Rape No2 to get the taste out of my mouth.

I hope my experience isn't typical of Olde Viking. In my defense, I'm a huge fan of Oden's, so who knows? Maybe I was just unfortunate enough to get the one can that slipped through quality control. You'll have to forgive me if I'm not in a hurry to order another can any time soon.

Love it! Very good. If it came in a white, it would be a heavy contender for LD. I'm going through this can pretty quick, so I'll probably order a roll of it soon. The Olde Viking Spearmint was a letdown, but this one is good! Like Baker said, very citrus y tasting.

Just took delivery of some Olde Viking (Thanks GN), and my first portion is going down a treat.

Not keen on the can size and shape - it's a bit bulkier than a standard can, and there's no catch lid, but as I have an icetool portion can that's not really a problem. I use catch lids a lot for my used potions, so without the icetool can, I'd be a bit lost.

The snus itself - nicely packed fluffy portions, soft material, and a great taste. Slow to come on, but really good when it does. Not too salty, but salty enough. Not too drippy, but drippy enough (I like a little juice). Nicotine is as expected for a regular portion, maybe a little stronger.

This is a good, solid, classic tasting, regular portion snus. I'd never considered buying it before, as the name put me off, but the snus itself is really good stuff, so to sum up my review I'll paraphrase an old adage, "Don't judge a snus by it's cover."

I just tried this now for the first time ( thanks sirloot) and I like it. I haven't had any GN until this week (since almost two years ago) and am pleasantly surprised.

Can not wait to try the whole range once it comes out.

                    Gajane does not make Odens.
                    GN Tobacco does.

Thanks to ABW and his generous contests I got a can of Old Viking to try. I went through it pretty fast for a can of portions. I usually feel like something is missing when I'm not using loose snus, but not with these. The portions are stuffed to the point it feels like a nice big prilla in the lip. The flavor is peppery with some subtle citrus or something. It makes for a great all day snus IMO. I'm not as sad about losing General Maxi now that I've tried some of GN's portions. Well done!

Gajane USED to make odens. And this thread is older than Jesus.
Btw... Olde Viking Original reminds me alot of Ettan OP.
