A review from my blog...

Last week I wrote up a little preview for Kaliber Snus, the new snus announced by Swedish Match. Swedish Match said, "Swedish Match will be launching a modern, attractively priced alternative, Kaliber, to accommodate consumers who want high-quality low-priced snus. “Kaliber is a straightforward portion-packaged snus for price-conscious consumers who are unwilling to compromise on quality,” says Markus Eileryd, Product Manager for Kaliber. Kaliber will be available in stores in the week commencing on April 11, and in original and white portion formats. The products will be produced according to Swedish Match GothiaTek quality standard and will have a popular tobacco flavor with a hint of citrus."

Okay, on to Kaliber White Portion. As white portions and original portions can vary so much sometimes, I was curious to see what the overall feel of this one was going to be. Upon opening the can, the citrus smell was very present, but with a little more sweetness to it, kinda perfumy/floral. Reminds me a little of (again) the old PMI 1847, with a little tone of Gustavus in the mix. It is interesting to note that these white portions do not come in the star formation commonly found in almost all Swedish Match white portions.

The white portions feel very comfortable and soft, and after a little fluffing into the lip! Kaliber White Portion has a very comfortable mouthfeel - very soft white portions. The flavor takes a bit longer to develop, being a white portion, but eventually I started to notice the bergamot flavor coming in. The pepper/dark tobacco flavor begins to interweave with the very present citrus taste. As with the original portion, this snus really doesn't seem to have too much of a salt flavor mixed in, which is common in most traditionally flavored snuses, it was kind of interesting to observe that. The flavor is a lot like the OP, just a little slower to develop, a little more mild. This one wasn't too bad, it reminded me a lot more on the 1847 side than the Level side.
In the end, what do I think? It's not bad. It has a pretty interesting taste to it. For a low priced snus, it's decent. For fans of the former PMI 1847 snus or Level, you may find you'll really enjoy this snus. To my friend CJ - this may be the one you've been looking for to replace your beloved Level!
