06 seems to be a much bigger snus for some reason than 05. The portions just seem bigger. 06 is Swedish Match's strongest release to date, weighing in at a whopping 20mg of nicotine. The aroma is a very strong but natural dark tobacco smell with floral hints in the background. The portions are long portions, which means they fit very comfortably in the lip - but the one thing I really wanted to focus on is how the portions look. These look much different than the 01/02 Lab Series portions and are among some of the most moist portions I've ever seen. When I first heard that this would be around 20mg of nicotine per portion I was rather curious about how it would feel. Larry from SnusCENTRAL remarked to me that Swedish Match is rather great at producing free nicotine levels (which are the amounts of usable nicotine in snus). This stuff is quite strong, I got a little light headed at times and had to take the portion out. It took me quite a while to work through a review of this! I use Oden's Extreme quite a bit which has a nicotine content of 22mg but for some reason this one hit me pretty hard. The taste is a very rich, dark tobacco taste with a natural but herbal taste in the background. It has a very earthy taste in the background, it isn't near as present as in 01/02, the tobacco seems to be the main focus of this one. For some reason, and I know I've drawn this comparison in the 05 review, the taste seems to allude to Cl!ck, but it seemed a little spicier. I don't know why but it just seems to remind me a lot of it! As moist as these portions are still close to Non Drip, I experienced a little, but nothing intense or anything.

I know beginning Week 35 (next week) it will be distributed in Norway.
I don't know about Sweden but I'll check.

Maybe the portions look intimidating to deter lightweights from trying it?

I've only used maybe 6 portions so far but to me it doesn't seem very strong, not even with 2 in. The taste reminds me of what it tastes like when you chew up a multivitamin.

I like this. A neutral tobacco tasting snus, comfortable drip-free hybrid portions and a good nic punch.

Review of Lab series 06 portions by Swedish Match:

A bit of background:
I had great hopes for the lab series back when 01 and 02 came out a couple of years ago - but whether it was something to do with the non-drip formula or the way the flavour started to get tiresome very quickly that put me off ... I don't know.

The flavour profile of 01 and 02 were described as being earthy, herbal and having notes of cedar wood and I know what they meant, the flavours of 01 and 02 had all those elements in them - but there's also an underlying sweet flavour (not a sweetness like sugar or sweetener) - it's more like the vanilla notes in Grov black strong portions.

I gave up on them after a while thinking that a flavour like that needs a bigger body behind it - a strong dark tobacco flavour which was lacking in 01 and 02.

Now - with all the EU related shenanigans I have struggled to get Swedish Match products for a year or more now (although I've managed pretty well) - so I've missed out on the 03, 04 and 05 which may or may not be similar. But based on some good reviews I've managed to get a couple of rolls of the 06 from a certain "top-end avian fancier" who looks like Groundskeeper Willy - well the project now makes perfect sense to me!

The Snus:
I can't detect any different flavourings in the 06 - but the underlying tobacco makes a world of difference to the overall experience. 06 is an extra-strong portion snus made with a dark rich and robust tobacco. Finally all those rich dark flavours of earth, cedar and nuttiness have a fitting base in which to sit - and an extra element from the strong tobacco which is a piquant spiciness and slight lip-tingle that sets the whole thing off perfectly.

Because of the strength of the tobacco - anyone using it naturally salivates a bit more than using a standard 8mg snus like Ettan or General - so I can't really see any reduction in drip over a normal original portion as advertised. But the long slender portion shape is a bonus for those looking for a discreet snus. However - anyone who is wary of strong snus whether it be for health reasons, not wanting to ramp up their nicotine intake or simply has a low tolerance ... should not go for this one. It is the strongest hitting Swedish Match offering I have ever tried.

This is an innovative type of snus - but at the same time it is everything I love about the tradition of traditional Swedish snus. Nothing tastes artificial - the tobacco flavour shines through, and the additional flavours are very adult in nature without any added sweetness.

Thumbs up to Swedish Match for this effort - finally the Lab Series snus makes sense for me. The whole idea of an experimental line like this would be an alien concept for many big companies - but SM have seen it through and it's finally bearing fruits.

I am very happy to have been able to try this one ... it's just too bad I am unlikely to be able to order this on a regular basis due to the increasingly bizarre tobacco laws in the European Union :-(
