There's a reason Göteborgs Rapé is the number-two selling snus in Sweden -- its flavor profile blends subtle hints of herbs (juniper berries) with mellow, sweet tobacco, making it one of the most unique and smooth products on the market. The can itself is beautiful; the plastic is gold and the label is navy blue with a slightly reflective surface -- it's very appealing to the eyes. Upon opening the can, notes of juniper berries permeate the air, making this snus smell very similar to a fine gin, such as Bombay Sapphire. Under the lip, the flavor of juniper berry is less apparent, and instead compliments and enhances the mellow sweetness of the tobacco. The salt content is comparable to most products, such as General White, and helps draw out the subtle tobacco flavor. Overall, I was pleasantly surprised with this product. However, if you can't tolerate the smell or taste of gin, I'd stay away.

I like it. But what I don't like is white portions. And often (like 80% of the time) I want something more dark tasting. Göteborgs Rapé is great one here and there, but I get easily tired of it.

Both the No 1 and No 2 are high quality but the No 2 is my favourite. They have a bit of an artisan quality about them i think.

I'm one of those people who can't tolerate the smell or taste of gin, but Göteborgs Rapé (No. 1) is in my Top 5 list. Yeah, I can't figure it out, either.

Pipensnus that could be because the flavor essence of the berry used in GR is likely a lot closer to the actual natural taste for the simple reason that combining it with a big old slug of alkyhawl in booze is going to render it unpalatable to lots of folks, myself included.

It's just a new can, like the Joint Challenge can from a while back.

A high-quality snus. Actually on the top of my list and it will probably stay up there as long as i dont overuse it as mentioned above. A couple of these a day is fine. great juniper flavour. This could be a snus I would bring some of to my next vacation. Sitting in Spain or Italy with hot weather, a cold drink and some GR1.

Well, I can taste it atleast (for being a white portion), it tastes and feels good the first hour but the drip which comes after that is too salty.

                      I'd say 3/5 stars.

Interesting comments. I think people who are used to SM snus tend to adapt to the subtle flavor of many of their tobaccos. However, my first impression of original Rape is that the tobacco is so muted that the Juniper taste overwhelms the tobacco and then, after about 15 minutes, all taste is gone except for the salt. Gives my mouth almost a pucker. On the plus side, it has no objectionable tastes or odors. Its OK, but more like nicorette gum than tobacco. Wouln't want to have this in my mouth on a warm day when I am workimg or exercising.

Göteborgs Rapé is certainly unique....I quite like the lös, which is milder and more complex, but the portion tastes a little too much like Gin. I know the lös has the same flavor profile (technically) but the juniper seems to override everything else in the portion. That said, I prefer it to other SM standbys like General, but it's nowhere near my workhorses, Grov and Ettan.
