Just hillbillied my first pinch of GR; really enjoying it so far (about 20 minutes in). Love the flavor; tastes just like a good gin with some nice tobacco flavor mixed in. I'm not sure, though, that this is something that I could handle all the time; the flavor is a bit intense-- far more noticeable than RL, General, etc. Grind is medium-coarse-- coming off of a can of Roda Lacket, the difference is quite noticeable.
All in all, enjoyable for now; we'll see if I tire of it.
I'd really like to give this one a try. I a fan of GR2 and I've been wondering how los would go over. Since you hillbillied it, maybe you wouldn't know how well it holds together when baked. Anyone else hand baked it before?
I mean, once it's up there and I shove it around a bit, it's pretty much just a pris that's shaped well to my gums. It holds together pretty well once it's in; it's got a pretty coarse grind, so it's not hard to use.
Agreed, this is a superb snus and one where los really shines next to the portions, which are also good. Holds together well, great mouth feel with a unique flavor that goes well with any Gin drink.
I especially enjoy this one on Sunday mornings or when golfing.
Well, seems like I'm the only one having a problem with this. Although I'm new, [about a month and a half in] I can't keep this baked. The prilla falls apart after about 5 minutes. I bake it the same way as I do with Ettan and Roda and I don't have a problem with them. Any tips?
3. Take resulting clump, into the lip it goes. Gotta do this step with feeling, otherwise it might go terribly wrong. Just shove it up there like you mean it. Use your tongue to sweep up any strays and stick them onto the main lump, then give it a few minutes to set up.
Try holding the pinch under your lip and using your tongue to shove it up there all in one quick motion. Works every time for me and I almost always hillbilly los.

I agree. I'm as green as it gets when it comes to handbaking, but I'm managing to get it in my lip more or less in one piece. Have to spit out a few crumbs, but the main body of the pris quickly molds to the gums as one piece. And the flavor is great -- stronger and less salty tasting than the portions. I feel the nicotine more, too. Makes my lips tingle.
In addition to a tool, I think it will help to learn to hand bake and to pinch and toss. The reason is that between these two techniques and a tool you should be able to handle any varying degree of moisture, grind, and need.
To Pinch and toss
1. Get a pinch with three fingers (not real big- start smaller than what seems right)
2. Gently squeeze the pinch between your fingers and press it against the tobacco in the can- or you can use the lid.). Don’t spend a lot of time. This should be fast. You aren’t baking. You are just compressing the wad a bit.
{Note: if you set the pinch down on the lid at this point, it should look somewhat rough and triangular- don't set it down. I'm just saying what it would look like if you did.}
3. Next, with the pinch still in your fingers, knock off the excess tobacco from around the compressed lump,
4. Finally, put the tobacco firmly in place in your mouth (I think this is one of the most important steps in the process. When you put the tobacco in, really stick it up in there firmly).
5. Give it a good poke/shove with the tongue.
6. Let it set up with out playing with it too much untill it does
7. Enjoy
How to get a Pris in your mouth without breakup
The quoted section below is a post from another thread that I thought might be of help. It describes how to get a pris into your mouth without it breaking up. It is a simple one hand (actually just two fingers) one motion method that keeps the pris from being squeezed (and thus breaking up) as you try to get it in. After the quoted section, I try to add some clarification.
1. Hold the pris between two fingers 2. Open your mouth and hold the pris above your tongue 3. Now move your fingers with the pris to the left or to the right 4. Your outside finger will hit the side of your lip/mouth 5. push/stretch the lip out a bit with the back of the finger 6. slide your finger up, around the inside of the lip until it is where you want the pris to go 7. put pris in place, remove fingers, and adjust with tongue to preference
Important: a big advantage of this method is that there is no need to grip the pris tightly and thus break it up as you struggle to get it in. Therefore, it is important to remember to relax, hold the pris lightly, and let the back of your finger clear the way in a single natural motion

Göteborgs Rapé los. My my my, how funny it is that I was hoping for juniper, lemon, pine, and herbs… Lemmie ’splain.
First the tin is blue and labeled with a GR, not the full name of the snus. Not sure if it is a rebranding or what, but it is interesting to note...maybe it is the Rapé part of the name they are trying to distance themselves from.
The grind is good and holds a pris or a pinch well, coarser than Röda Lacket, probably on par with General for grind. Good so far.
The flavor is…meh. Good tobacco, light hints of salt, and a touch…a smidge…a droplet of juniper flavor. When I drank I liked gin. Warm shots of gin. Sippin’ gin. Give me Juniper of give me death kinda gin. Lemony herbal pines and juniper berry gin (but not that cucumber $ħ*ť, the only good Hendricks are Jimmy and Christina). I am a little miffed about the taste. It is bland…like canned salad olives packed in water. You know olives are delicious and flavorful when properly brined (I mean I do, if you don’t like olives then I’m sorry), but those canned salad olives are like the ghosts of olives. This snus is like the ghost of juniper. There is a flavor there, but only a whisper of a hint of what was expected. I’ve made prillas, farmer pinched, I’ve let it slide and for all that good los goop all over my mouth (it gets bitter)…still no good shot of flavor. (Many los “open up” in the farmer pinch but this one is just as flavorful either way…meaning it’s not very flavorful to me). It is super approachable, and easy to bake, but so delicately flavored I’m sad.
Counterpoint, I really came around to Phantom Blue for its in your face herbal-lemon-juniper flavor. I’d like a hint of that in here at least (come on Swedish Match, bring it back…you own it now…haha really I know you won’t) alas, it is bland. I am disappoint.
And for a blast from the past (over ten years ago) it seems I still feel the same way today….
I like the Goat Rapé portions better than the los. Blasphemy, I know...never had No. 2 but am looking forward to trying it. When I had the los it was not special to me and didn't seem as herbal and juniper berryish as I was expecting.
(I did clean up the quote a touch to make it clear, it is in the GR portions thread but here it is a little out of context as part of it was relating to that other discussion…and spelling as usual but that looked like an old drunk post, I blamed my spelling and incoherence on the drink, but now I know it’s just how I type lol)
Honestly it is a good snus, and I blame my love of juniper and high expectations…but I’ll take many other los before I take this one again. Try it, you may like it, but as for me I’ll be in my broken down Chevrolet with an empty bottle of gin.

Reason: You know. Spelling, coherence…the usual.
Might wear on you by the time you finish up a can. GR doesnt make a lingon los, do they?
Yeah, I have used it all day, but have to switch hit with Kronan and Röda every couple of prillas. Also, better with tea than coffee so there’s that. I think 50/50 RL and GR might be nice, but sadly they do not make a lingon los.

Reason: Y’all know. Maybe not…incomplete thought needed to be completed.
