First off im mad because the lil booklet that came with it was in swedish so i couldnt read it.
The first thing i noticed was the lid that actually covers the snus tin inside the box doesnt fit well at all. So i would assume that moisture loss may be a big problem.
Upon opening the can the tobacco is BLACK, i mean even richer than any other tobacco ive seen.
The cut is the same as say Copenhagen Fine Cut Moist Snuff.
Baking this snus is not easy. It doesnt want to stick together at all. If you keep at it eventually a nice pris will form. Make sure you try to get all the loose ends of the pris because you will end up with little bits all in your mouth.
The intial flavor was very slight. I didnt taste any fig and whatnot. The overall flavor profile I got was salty premium tobacco. Hence, Copenhagen SNuff.
IIm sorry but thats it.
It tastes like you would think Copenhagen would if oyu uper lipped it.
Now dont get that confused, ive tried copenhagen upper lipped and it was gross, this is more of a What would copenhagen snus taste like.
Over all it was a satisfying snus, but NEVER WORTH $91 bucks including shipping.
DUE TO ITS CUT IT IS ACTUALLY QUITE HARSH ON THE GUMS
Im sure people will view this as the fine scotch of snus but its just all bells and whistles, but at least I tried it.
kardus is good. its made to be high quality, and it is. the cut is nice, the rum flavor is nice, all in all its very good. that said, do i think its worth the 55-65 dollars spent for it? meeeeh. not really. dont get me wrong, i like it, im very glad i ended up getting it, but the fact is, i spent 55 dollars on 100 grams of snus. high quality snus, yes, but i think 30 bucks would be a more appropriate price. as good as it is, i still like gotland yellow better. so yeah. kardus is awesome, im glad i bought it, will i buy it next year? probably not.
Not sure what I think of it so far. Tried 3-4 prillas to date. I tried hand-baking my first one as I read where someone said the icetool wouldn't work that well.
Well that's total bullshit - my icetool works fine with the Kardus.
Anywho... all I'm noticing is the rum - and HOLY RUM. Yeah, strong rum flavor. Not bad, just strong.
It also tastes somewhat bitter to me. And that could just be the complexity of the flavor. I've posted before that I don't think my palate is very sophisticated/sensitive. I never seem to taste all those subtle flavors everyone else talks about with other snus.
So, for me at the moment, not good - not bad - just different.
It seems to "open up" more as I get used to it and I'm really enjoying it. I'm keeping it for a special "after dinner" snus as it's so good.
It's not in any way intense or overpowering. More subtle and complex. At first, there's a big burst of the rum flavour, but then it settles down for a bit, delivering a really nice solid and sustained nicotine buzz that just keeps on giving. The rum is lovely, very complex and as the premium tobacco flavours kick in, it's just a sweet ride. No bitterness, no salt, no citrus. Just pure high quality tobacco and premium run.
After about an hour, the flavours really seem to start coming out even more - I think this is probably as the pris gets saturated and starts to come apart - although not in a bad way. My Kardus prillas are lasting a good two hours now before they start to slide to the point I need to get rid of them.. For me, there's no appreciable drip similar to what I get with lots of portions ( I like the drip by the way), but it's not an issue as the Kardus keeps your mouth full of flavour all the way.
The awesome, gracious member known as Liandri sent me some of this to try. Was the first Los I ever tried. Great snus, dont get me wrong, I loved it. But I could never bring myself to pay that much for it, just wasn't THAT impressed where I could see spending 50-60 bucks, when I could get alot of other great snus for the price. But if you got some dollars burnin' a hole in your pocket, then I say go for it. You wont be dissapointed. 8)
That works, but I like the Swedish word snusare better.
Welcome Hocher.
I've got a masters degree in Swenglish. I'm a swede, sharing office with a woman from England and have a American boss. The most appreciated Swedish word according to the others is "kackerlackorna" (the cockroaches).
This review references Kardus Superior Blend : 2010
One of my two most anticipated days of the year has finally arrived. The first was the release of General Long Portion, and the second is today - with the release of Kardus Superior Blend : 2010! As most of you know - Kardus is a very limited release produced towards the end of the year by Swedish Match. The world is traversed to find a special tobacco to make Kardus from, and if that particular year they can't find anything that meets their quality standards, they don't produce Kardus. To date that hasn't happened yet, thankfully. Conny Andersson from Swedish Match is the mastermind behind flavoring this special snus and really has a taste for quality. I had the opportunity to meet with him in Sweden earlier this year and was really impressed with his knowledge of tobacco and flavor. As I've said before, I'm a big fan of Kardus, if you remember from my review last year. I think it's great that a special snus is released just for snus lovers. I compare it to when Pepsi releases Pepsi Throwback - the REAL Sugar version of Pepsi. In limited quantities, I consider it a rather nice treat!
I won't go to into detail about this year's Kardus, this is a review of the flavor and the snus itself, but if you want to read the backstory, check out the preview I posted a few weeks ago. I've dubbed it "Pirate Kardus". In the lid, a shard of porcelain is included from the exclusive cargo of the last voyage of the East Indiaman Götheborg’s last voyage in 1745, which was salvaged from the wreck in 1905. It's wrapped in a very pirate ship-esque twine and comes in a very cool looking box - much like last year's edition. A full color book is also included which covers the full story of this year's Kardus.
As mentioned before, Kardus is a long-cut, hand-cut snus. The preview article covers the exact method used to make this year's Kardus. As I said last year - it's a labor of love to make a snus this special. This year's Kardus has a lighter nicotine kick to it, due to the particular tobacco used. I find that refreshing, because last year's really had a kick to it and this year's is more mellow, allowing you to enjoy the flavor of this great snus more. Now, let's talk Kardus Snus. When I opened up the lid to this year's Kardus I found a very interesting smell. It was very reminiscent of a rich pipe tobacco - but with a spicy and exotic twist to it. The flavor of this year's Kardus is very rich and quite robust. The tobacco has a little sour taste to it with fruity hints. The tobacco itself is very rich and has a very present flavor and seems to have these hints of chocolate to it, kind of like some people detect with Ettan. The flavor isn't so much salty as most other snuses - the use of Arrack seems to balance out the flavor and doesn't add a strong alcohol flavor like last year's Kardus, but a very mellow sweet undertone that matches very well with the sour taste that you detect at first. If I had to sum up this year's Kardus, I would say it's exotic but balanced. The flavor takes a unique twist on traditional tobacco flavor and balances out so many elements and flavors into a very enjoyable experience. This year's Kardus is great - and I look forward to seeing what comes in 2011!
