Now, I pretty much have a fetish when it comes to snus cans, actually, any tobacco can and this fetish is what made me order the Thunder Raw in the beginning. Anyhow, when I first opened the envelope I immediately knew I was in for something I hadn't expected. Along with the Thunder Raw, I ordered some plain tobacco snus brands, none mint flavored yet the envelope had a smell of peppermint. It kinda puzzled me at first but, as I started taking out the snus cans, I had found the culprit......It was the Thunder raw! This got me thinking, I'm the kind of guy that is predominantly a natural tobacco flavored snus user and really don't like mint. I'm also a cheap guy and hate throwing things away so, I decided that I would force myself to try this mint flavored snus. For those of you who don't like mint flavored snus, Try Thunder Raw and this will change your outlook on them! Let me get into my review of Thunder Raw and you'll see what I mean!
The portions are the original type which tend to be a bit wetter than white portions. This is due to an extra step in the manufacturing process that adds a few drops of water to each portion. What this extra step does is help the flavors in the tobacco to meld together and also imparts some of the snus' flavor to the portion material. Original type portions also tend to give off their flavor faster once it's in you lip, unlike white portions which can take a few minutes for the flavors to come out. Thunder Raw's Strong peppermint flavor comes out as soon as you get it in your lip and lasts for quite a long time. It's also comfortable in the lip for for as long as the flavor lasts. Ive had a portion in for over 2 hours and other than a slight wrinkling in my lip, no real discomfort whatsoever!
Each can of Thunder Raw Ultra Strong has approximately 20 portions with each one having a whopping 21 mg of Nicotine! When I was doing my research on Thunder Raw, I read that it had 21 mg of Nicotine and was really standoffish about trying it. Up until now, the strongest snus I had tried was Thunder original which has 16 mg of Nicotine. So, as I put the portion in I was waiting for the nausea and lightheaded to hit me but, it never came! Surprising for a snus with that much Nicotine, it was really manageable and none of the weird feelings one would normally associate with high Nicotine snus. Things were beginning to really look good for this snus and what really sealed the deal for me was the taste!
As I said in the beginning, I was really not a fan of mint flavored snus in the past but after this snus, I can now call myself a card carrying fan of mint! Since I smelled the mint flavor in the envelope, I figured that Thunder Raw would have a bitter taste and burn like hell once i got it in my lip. Well, I can honestly say that the flavor of thunder raw is actually a slightly sweet taste with just a touch of tobacco flavor in the background. It's kind of like a true mint flavor, like eating a mint leaf. Mint flavor with some earthy back notes. The burn, it's there but not as bad as some other mint flavored snus brands out there. Just enough to let you know that yes.....this is mint flavor but not enough to make you want to take it out of your lip.
My overall thoughts about Thunder Raw Ultra Strong portion snus is this; snus users who are new to Extra Strong snus will want to try Thunder Raw. This is due to the way the nicotine hits you gradually, not all at once. Snus users who are fans of mint will find Thunder Raw to be a great addition to their rotation for use when a strong mint flavored snus is too harsh. All snus users, like me, will like Thunder Raw's can because it's a great conversation starter while at the clubs or any social gathering! I personally like Thunder Raw Ultra Strong and it's now a permanent player in my snus line up!
