Phantom Blue (White Portion)

The V2 snus machine has been in overdrive lately, and another product has been added to their lineup, in addition to Coffee Vanilla and the new Offroad Frosted. A white portion of the Phantom Blue line. In the past, I've reviewed the Phantom Blue Original Portion and Phantom Blue Los. I enjoyed the Phantom Blue Los, I found all the things I didn't like about the Original Portion were either fixed, or muted. Which was good.
As I enjoy the flavor of Juniper, I looked forward to this being a great product. Anyone who discusses Phantom Blue will speak of the trademark "Windex" smell that you get with this snus. Can't avoid it, it's something you'll hear from a majority of the users. The flavor of the original portion wasn't that great, but the flavor of the los was pretty good.
When I opened this can, I noted the white portions to be very clean, full, and comfortable. The aroma? Well, the Windex smell that I had long since complained about was gone! Stellar. I was hoping this would be resolved in this release. This being a white portion, the flavor isn't going to come on as strong in the beginning, it's going to slowly come in, and the flavor profile of Phantom Blue (White Portion) developed slowly, but built to a rather enjoyable flavor. The flavor of juniper is very present, but very mild, and marries perfectly with a mild salt flavor and a hint of herbs. The portion lasts quite long, I've been able to enjoy one up to an hour and a half, with little drip, and no flavor turn.
I'm very glad V2 released this one, as I enjoy the flavor of juniper, and found the mild presentation of the flavor in this mixed with a mild salt balance and hints of herbs to be a great, balanced flavor profile, and a very enjoyable new white portion to add to V2's impressive lineup.

I bought a can of this on my last order, thinking it might make a decent discount substitute for Göteborg's Rapé. What I didn't expect was that I would like it on its own terms. Yes, it does have juniper, like GR, but in a much milder dose. There's also something that gives it a touch of sweetness, something slightly creamy. I can't yet describe the sweetness beyond that. The tobacco base tastes a bit "darker" too, with the kind of earthy undertones notable in Ettan. Overall, it's not a snus that makes me say, "Wow!", but it is still quite enjoyable. It can definitely hold its own against other brands with higher price tags. Recommended.

Of all the incarnations of Phantom, Phantom Blue is one of my favorites. I remember when V2 first introduced Phantom Blue back in 2008 and the opinions I read about it ranged from an awesome lemon flavor to a tobacco flavored Windex. When I first tried it, I got the flavor of Lemonheads candy with it's intense Lemon flavor and a light sweetness. The strong ammonia scent that came from the can just added to the extreme flavor that Phantom Blue had. Now, V2 has created Phantom Blue White and just by opening the can, you can tell that this version is different!
Unlike Phantom Blue original, the scent from the can no longer smells like ammonia! What I get is a light Juniper smell combined with the earthy scents of the tobaccos. Another difference is obvious, the white portions are much dryer than the original portions due to the elimination of the extra wetting step that adds a bit of water to each portion prior to being placed in the can. Even though they are dryer, the portion material that V2 uses is a soft, teabag type material that is comfortable in the lip for about 2 hours. Each can of Phantom Blue White contains approximately 22 portions with a Nicotine content of 8 mg each. The cans that Phantom Blue White comes in have also made a change since they were first released. In the beginning, the can had no used portion compartment and the label was just a plain black one with "Phantom" blazoned across it in blue letters. Today's version does have a used portion compartment and the label makes the can look like an old treasure chest which is pretty cool actually! But, enough about the can, lets take a look at the flavor!
As I said in the beginning, Phantom Blue has always had a "love/hate" kind of thing going for it due to it's intense flavor and ammonia scent. With Phantom Blue White, it's almost a completely new type of flavor. What I taste is a slightly sweet yet subdued juniper flavor upfront with hints of salt and the earthy, peaty flavors of the tobaccos used in the background. There is also a very light pepper flavor that's almost barely noticeable that comes in after about 20 minutes that adds another layer to the flavor. The total time that the flavor lasted for me was about an hour and a half but I figured that for a product that was made to be used for only an hour max, an extra half hour was pretty good! Another difference with this snus was that there was virtually no drip from it, unless you made it drip that is but, for a portion that has no drip, the flavor was pretty strong compared to other White type portions out there.
My overall opinion on Phantom Blue White portion is this; if you tried Phantom Blue and the thing that turned you off of it was the scent of Windex but you are looking for a snus that has a great Juniper taste, you should really give Phantom Blue White portion a try. If you're one of the fans of the original Phantom Blue and want a less runny version, again I suggest you give the white version a try! It's made it's way into my rotation and I'm sure it'll make it's way into yours!
Happy Snusing!

I've never used Windex - but I have tried Phantom Blue!
I think what people mean is that it has a very artificial flavour - I can really taste the synthetic chemicals in it and frankly life is too short for me to be putting stuff like that in my mouth.
If you like that sort of taste then great ... fill your boots!
The taste of ammonia is mainly to do with how fresh it is - all kinds of really fresh snus smell of ammonia.Squeezyjohn
Sometimes wrong and sometimes right .... but ALWAYS certain!!!

Ah yes I see what you mean now, thanks for the explanation When I had a friend in Sweden sending me General and Ettan (and before I could taste the differences and invidual tastes of Snus) I would also think it just smelt of ammonia....as did many of my friends who had never seen Snus before.
My regular brand / type is Jakobsson's Classic.....I really love the citrus aroma and taste that goes well with the tabacco. Am I right in thinking that citrus smell is bergamot? I'd never even heard of it until joining these forums.

It seems that Phantom Blue, in all it's forms, has gone thru a significant flavor change over the years. In the beginning it had a strong lemony flavor, not Juniper. 2 years ago, the flavor was much lighter and had more of a juniper taste. The strong ammonia scent was also gone. IMO, I like the new version but.........sometimes wish it hadn't changed. :-)

If snusline get this I'll be sure to give it a try.
I'm confused by the Windex comparison, maybe that glass cleaner smells different here in the UK! I get a strong juniper smell from Phantom Blue, especially the lós type
