    Long Portions being the standard?

Since I've tried long portions, I find it difficult to use the standard size portions. My hope is that the long portions will become the standard. How likely is this? What would be the time frame?

I don't know how likely that is. For me just guessing, I'd say they're very UNLIKELY to become the standard. They seem to be popular, so I think there'll be more around, but a complete shift will be years, if at all.

I doubt everything will change to long portions but they will become more available in different varieties for sure.

I hope not, I like the reg portions in most snus as well as the long in others, I think they should offer both and if one had to be chosen my vote would be to keep the one and only true original portion...

Methinks you echo the sentiments of many many Swedes, the real snus target group.

What would be the advantage/benefit of the regular sized portion over a long portion? I don't see one, as you can have the same size portion/nic hit/flavor with the comfort of a los portion, so you can have less bulge, greater comfort and more discreetness.

That's what I believe as well. For example, Swedish Match might release "Goteborgs Rape Long Portion" or "Grovsnus Long Poriton", but I don't think SM wants to upset old-school users with a completely new format. The result would be similar to when Coca-Cola changed their "Classic Formula" during the 1980's.

Not everyone including me thinks the longer portions have the comfort of Los or less bulge to me in some long portions they are too long and droop down and show, so less discreet while the reg portions fit right up in the pocket.. everyone's mouth will fit these portions different. So keeping the tried and true standard of OP would be the advantage/benefit for most not the few..

I've only got to try the general long I love the feel of it. I doubt it'll become standard though.. My next order will probably include a roll of longs.

                        The market will dictate this.

I prefer the long portions some time but I'm so used to the OP format that It's second nature to me. The longs do have a less conspicuous bulge though. I know if Grov came out with long portions I'd switch to them totally. It's a nice balance between OP and WP and I like the placement. I think you get more surface area coverage too which would make for faster nic delivery. The flavor on the 01/02 doesn't wear out for hours so I'm not worried about that. That being said, it's the only long portion I've tried. I'm still waiting on my roll of General Long and have no interest in Thunder Frosted Long, or any other Thunder Frosted for that matter. I do like the fact that w/ the OP format you can kind of control the density you pack it up in the pocket...can't really do that with the long portion, but the longs seem to have less extra material IMO.

                        Grov Long please.

I'm sure when portions came around the tried and true lossers said the same thing, wondering if portions would take over los, but here we are today and we still have both being sold. I think there's a different market for everything, and long portions won't overcome original portion or los users because they're too traditional. The long portion is a great addition, but so was the white portion.

                            Excellent points Chad.

We also have cost factors to consider too. Converting everything to long portions would involve reformulating each product and paying for new production machinery. Onyx was the first white snus in a star formation, Onyx was released in 2006. 4 years later Swedish Match has announced that all it's white large (but not mini) portions will be converted to star formation. I'm sure the machines that package white snus into the star formation aren't cheap. I don't see them scraping them any time soon.
