I received my order yesterday which contained a can of OFF ROAD Long cut American Wintergreen, and Cranberry loose. I'm not disappointed with either one of these. They are much better than the wintergreen portions I tried.
The loose is significantly better accross the board. In the past week (roughly) I have been using mostly the following:
Phantom Blue Los
Phantom Classic Los
Offroad Cranberry Los
The cranberry and blue portions are pretty good aswell. Not as good as their Los counterpart, but useable nonetheless.
Well I have been enjoying the offroad brands quite a bit. it seems that the biggest complaint is that the flavors taste too artificial. When dealing with trying to mix tobacco and flavors, it would seem to me that most flavors are going to be artificial. The grape drink that you buy at the store is never going to taste like the 100% juice that you can buy for twice the price. I still buy the grape drink because its cheaper and get used to it. I also come from dipping tobacco and used to dip a lot of the flavored skoal...cherry, apple, peach, vanilla...and if you think that the snus flavors are artificial tasting, wow, dipped flavors slap you across the face and leave you silly, so for me the snus flavors are good, because its not as bad as what I used to chew. It would be nice if Offroad made a premium snus made with only natural extracts...but that might be expensive.
(I really like LD snuses and I like level as well)
Something just occurred to me: maybe the fact that I was brought up on Hawaiian Punch, Kool Aid and Tang (and assorted othe powdered mix drinks) is the reason I don't have a single problem with Offroad Snus??
Everyone who complains about the V2 snuses have something to say about the artificial taste... well... nothing as artificially "wholesome" as a Kool-Aid childhood :-D
I don't know anything about the regulation of OFF ROAD products, but the ingredients are not listed on the cans, so there is some degree of difference.
Ingredients are on the sticker on the bottom of the can
Now that I have tried a few more flavors of OFF ROAD, I'll post a few comments:
Long Cut American Wintergreen: I love wintergreen, and this is a good product. The wintergreen flavor is similar to what is used in the US. Relative to snus this is sweet, but not as sweet as Skoal or Kodiak. I did not taste any off flavors in this snus. The nicotene content seems mild, which I like. I will keep some of this on hand in the future.
Cranberry loose: This is sweeter than the long cut WG. I thought the flavor tasted good. Definitely worth trying if you like Cranberry. It seemed to be pretty high in nicotene.
Wintergreen portions: This was the first can of OFF ROAD I tried, and it was the reason I did not immediately try any other varieties. I thought it was really bad and could not use it.
Wintergreen loose: I just tried this today, and the formula seems to be exactly the same as the wintergreen portions. I found the smell and taste to be objectionable, meaning I could not keep it in and finish it. It reminds me of the monkey cages at the zoo. It is awful.
Icemint loose: I thought the mint flavor was fine and it does taste like Icemint and has a mild burn. If you like mint flavor, it is worth a try.
I mainly use loose now and I have not tried any portion flavors other than the wintergreen so I can't comment on those.
I'm not a fan of any of the mints. Thus far, the only mint snus that I have even remotely enjoyed was the camel frost. I'll be curious to see what the new gotlandssnus jakobsonn's icefruit tastes like. I am guessing it'll be mentholated with some sorta fruit flavor. I may give that a taste.
I tried the Icemint again today first thing (instead of right after the wintergreen loose) and I did not taste any off flavors this time. It seems their non-american version of wintergreen is the only loose I really have a problem with.
I'm looking forward to trying the icefruit from Gotlandssnus as well. It sounds like they have put a lot of development work into that product. I've always liked minty flavors so I'm very interested in this one, just wish there was a loose version.

I don't know for sure, but I think they were yanking our chain ;^) IcyFruit just doesn't sound like a Gotland flavor, especially since they said it would be a traditional snus.
