Ettan los doesn't have much of a shelf life once opened

a can opened for three days vs a new can opened, no comparison the latter is so much better and fresher.
and that's even refrigerating the open can every night...thankfully i go thru a can every two days so every other day
    is a fresh pinch.
suprisingly though, un-opened cans hold up pretty good w/o a fridge...i camped out for two weeks this summer and the los i brought was good all the way thru (unless it was opened then it seemed to fade quicker than normal).

Maybe being in and out of the fridge may do it.. I opened one had in the fridge in a zip lock over a month it was still good, I had some medical probs only had patience for portions. I finished it and it was as good as new.

when i open a can i take a baggie and cut the top off it and dump the snus in whats left of the bag. then i twist the top of the bag, fold it over and put it back in the can. when i use it i keep putting it back in the can with the top folded over or twisted. as long as they dont get too hot (like in car summer day hot) most brands keep a long time. ive kept them like that close to a month i guess. keeping snus like that a couple or so weeks in no problem. i hate dried snus.

In my case i only notice this with Ettan...not as much with grov or phantom

I found that to be the case with most Swedish Match Los Snus. Another member here suggested that the cardboard tin is the biggest factor in that. So what I do now is I have a Gotlands yellow tin I rinse and put my los in as I open it. I find it is keeping much better.

The main problem with los is that is has to be consumed...

Once the can is opened, the freshness and humidity level only last for 7 days at most... then it starts to slowly dry up.....
I've had to rehydrate dozens of cans... until I've learned my lesson....
Only have one or two cans open ...
If you're a can a day user then you can afford to open 7 cans at one time...

Many times I will use something on the weekends and leave it on the computer table for a week and by then it usually get's tossed.

You can sprinkle or mist some distilled water into the open can. I've done this many times, but the thing is the water has to spread through the whole can and that doesn't happen overnight. Takes a couple of days. I find myself hydrating my Landstroms lately. I don't think that the stuff dries out much, but it takes me about a month to go through a can of los so I end up doing this several times with the same can. I think it's 'cos the stuff is just grainy.

The finer ground snus like Ettan, Roda, etc can be more difficult to work with. Try spreading the remainder out on a plate then misting it and finally putting it back in the can. The bag trick that snusomatic suggested works great. The trick is to decrease the surface area of the snus that's in contact with air...in or out of the can. Each time you open the can you replenish the humid air with the ambient air which is not as humid. I guess a refrigerated humidor would be the best bet...hmmm. If keeping it in the fridge try to put it in the butter compartment or maybe the veggie compartment. Now, if you use the can in two days there really isn't a problem.

What I have found that helps with SM snus (and most others for that matter) is to compress the snus in the can. I take a smooth jar that will fit into the snus tin and pack the snus down firmly. This seems to help moisture retention.

It really works well with Kronan........which unpressed seems to turn bitter after a day or so of being opened.
