Agree. This, or a long cut snus would make snus more approachable to newbies/converts.
There really needs to be a long cut snus available, as well as more tobacco flavors or a clone of American dip flavor in a snus.
Absolutely! People are used to certain things and they like what they like. This is ESPECIALY true with things like cigarettes, beer, or...Chew,Dip,Snus etc. I would not recommend snus to a "dipping" friend of mine based on flavor. UNLESS there was one that would be of comparable flavor and cut as american chew/dip. Americans are becoming more and more health/mortality conciencious and now would be a PERFECT time to introduce real swedish snus with a familiar taste and cut americans are used to. If it were available I would have turned on at least 4 or 5 of my friends by now. Then the chain reaction of (here comes the pun) word of mouth.
@GoVegan thanx I will check it out with my next order!
There is no snus on the planet that comes close to the taste of copenhagen not even grov, until a snus company cure their tobacco with hickory smoke then it won't happen, it is the curing process that gives copenhagen it distinctive flavour. That being said it is rumoured that copenhagen are making their own snus product.
Snus = air dried tobacco, then pasteurized.
Dip = fire dried tobacco, then fermented.
That's why they taste different, and why snus has lower TSNA's
That was not always the case, for a long time some famous snus brands had smoke used in their curing process, companies such as Swedish Match in the 80's got around this my synthetically adding smoke flavour to their products and air curing.
There is talk that Copenhagen may start to do the same. The tobacco laws in America will soon see some tobacco products classed as harm reduction products. Snus already qualifies in terms of TSNA levels. Therefore the big American Snuff makers will now be forced into making their products safer in order to compete.
Can you imagine if copenhagen can retain its distinctive flavour without fire curing that would make a nice snus. My favourite Snus is Ettan Lös and Grov lös. I also like Copenhagen Snuff but I don't dip it very often.
snusify is right....nothing like Cope in the snus world, I looked. However, after dipping copenhagen for years, I don't like it anymore after using snus for several months, just a much cleaner taste. Had some copenhagen the other day for the first time in months and it was gnarly....tasted like a burnt piece of smokey campfire wood rolled in ashes and I used to LOVE the taste. Anyway, even though they don't taste the same, I bet you would really like ETTAN los, Grov los, General extra sterk los and Skruf stark los...they are fantastic. Trust me, before long you will not miss our beloved copenhagen.

mmmmmm, burnt smokey campfire wood rolled in ashes. deeeeliciousnesss.....
For any newbies looking for the same exact thing I was:
I tried many many portions and Probe Whiskey was the only one I could see a Copenhagen Straight user finding close to home.
With that said, I just started using "Los" or loose snus and it was sooooo different and fit the profile of flavor soooo much more. Ettan Los for instance was very very close compared to Ettan portions which suprisingly tasted so much different.
there is no snus that taste like cope. with that said, try mixing 75% probe loose and 25% odens extreme, seal it up good with no excess air. leave it in the refrigerator for a couple of days. it won't be cope but it's pretty good. if it's too dry mix in a few drops of bottled water at a time until you like what you see. mix small batches so you waste less on the dud batches. you may even think of some non snus items to mix in to help the taste.
oh yea, i know you want away from the sugar but try mixing a little molasses in some plain snus. maybe water it down first and cure it in the refrigerator. may sound nuts but most chew has brown sugar and molasses.
Whiskey is a nice addition, I haven't tried molasses but it makes sense. Most snus doesn't have sugar and the balance between salty and sweet is a big change for former dippers to adjust to. It's the lack of Umami. Dip has a sweet and salty flavor that is usually out of balance on the sweet side.
After a while you prefer the salty flavor of snus and it begins to taste neutral. Copenhagen is fermented though. Snus is pasteurized and will never taste the same. Especially that twang you feel if you swallow dip. Snus won't ever give you that natural retch feeling. I prefer it that way. I felt like spitting with snus the first few times out of habit, but I would never 'gut' Copenhagen like I do with snus.
The difference is pretty apparent and not something you can find an easy replacement for. Eventually you find a snus you like or a mix of flavors you can stir up to get what you like.
I like General Extra Sterk but I still have a fat dip a few times a week.
To me it's like the difference between having a few beers and having a glass of bourbon. Both are nice, but not interchangeable.

Agreed. I've loved Copenhagen since the day I tried it back in junior high (zip it!) but don't care for it at all anymore, now that I've been using snus for the past few years.
About a month ago I had the natural longcut and could of sworn it was slightly sweet but not as bad as straight flavor.
I actually think the natural could be replicated verses the amount of sugar added to make the straight.
