I recently got a very special shipment of snus from a Swedish friend. It was 50g each of Gotland Fläder, and Gotland PLAIN!
First the Fläder... There really isn't much to say about this. Most here are familiar with the portions, and as with most snus, the lös surpasses them :^D The salt is reduced, and the flavor is crisper, with more elderberry flavor. It tastes like fresh fruit, with a bit of Gotland bitterness in the back. The elderberry flavor comes through much better, and as with all Gotland snus, doesn't taste synthetic at all. The portions were an occasional use snus for me, along the lines of mint or licorice. I could use the Fläder lös much more regularly. It just works better as a regular snus, at least for my tastes.
Plain... I'm liking this more and more as I use it. The flavor is VERY subtle. It's been awhile since I've had Göteborgs Prima Fint, but going from memory, the strength of flavor is similar to that. It has a slightly bready taste, with hazlenut and chocolate notes. Like all Gotland snus, it has a slight bitterness in the background, but curiously, it doesn't come off as bitter as some of the flavored snuses. Any of you who had the 2007 Kardus from Swedish Match, the flavor is similar to that. Absolutely unflavored tobacco, but of course with the typical Gotland grind. This is absolutely a snus I would buy rolls of. I'm not sure what the general appeal would be though. It's definitely not a newbies snus. It likely wouldn't taste like much of anything to someone who is new to snus, or particularly lös. I think this would be popular with tobacco aficionados, and I'd love to see it produced, even if it were a limited run. Hint... Nobody's making and Easter snus yet Jimmy ;^)
In closing, I have to say that neither of these are proposed as being a full time product, but they should be. They're classic snus products, with a refined flavor. So guys, get on Jimmy's ass and see if you can get these released :^D And dammit, I want my Gotland Gul! I can't believe you guys aren't buying this stuff. It's only the best snus available :^/
