    AG Snus Reviews

    So here's my thoughts.

Recently, I wrote an article about AG Snus, a snus company that is new to some of us, but actually has been around and making snus for 5 generations - since 1864. When I heard about the new products - Blue Ocean and Jägarpris I was pretty excited. After all, 5 generations of making snus should mean one hell of a company with one hell of a product. So there's two new products - Blue Ocean and Jägarpris. Though the Blue Ocean can says "Portion", it is actually a White Portion. Jägarpris says "Original Portion" and it is just that, an Original Portion.

It is interesting to note that these two cans aren't opened the traditional way. I slid my thumbnail around the seam and attempted to open the can, much to no avail. Eventually, I found out these are opened in a Lucky Strike-esque way, you have to peel the label off. Don't be alarmed, it's easy - the label is made to be peeled off, but it sucks because it detracts from the cans appearance in my opinion. Getting into this review, no - Jägarpris is not flavored with Jägarmeister. Just to clear that up.

As you can see from this picture, the open can has had the label removed so that I could get into it. The product description is, "Nature creates a frame around the world, which we as human beings live in and are a part of. The close connection between nature and humans has been our inspiration in the development of Jägarpris. The Jägarpris flavour is therefore brought in from nature’s rich flora. Jägarpris is developed for those, who value nature and wish to feel the closeness of nature – also when enjoying snus." When you open a can of Jägarpris, the aroma is a slightly sweet but rich and fresh earthy aroma, it smells of the season of Fall. The portions are very comfortable and quite moist. The taste is very mellow - a rich tobacco flavor with earthy undertones and a gentle salt balance. This stuff is pretty tasty! The nicotine hit is pretty moderate as well. As far as snuses go, this one is a pretty standalone product - not many comparisons to other snus products come to mind when I think about Jägarpris.

The product description for the other snus released by AG Snus is, "This snus brand is developed by AG SNUS based on 5 generations’ knowledge about snus and smokeless tobacco products. The company’s location, surrounded by the blue ocean, has provided inspiration in the development of the Blue Ocean snus brand. The Blue Ocean snus flavour has been inspired by the fresh sea air, and yes even the portions have an obvious maritime appearance." The blue can and graphic scheme is very obviously designed to reflect that exact statement.

    Part 2...

This can is much like the Jägarpris can, the label has to be removed before you can open the can. When you open a can of Blue Ocean, a slightly sweet but very brisk tobacco aroma comes through. The snus itself actually has a little tingle/burn to it when you put it in your lip - I'm going to guess there is a presence of menthol/camphor to provide a cooling sensation. I'm guessing the intended result to the mixture of these initial impressions is to provide an experience much like the sea air - a brisk aroma/initial tingle. The taste is a little sweet, a little salty. The tingle stays around for a while, it reminds me of the cooling sensation that Lucky Strike Nites has. It's not a mint taste, but a menthol/camphor presence leading to a cooling sensation. The tobacco flavor itself comes through in a very gentle, mellow, and mild way. All these elements blend together very well to provide a really unique flavor and experience.

So, what's the final thought on the new AG Snus products? Going into it, I wasn't sure what to expect. I thought they'd both taste about the same, just a white and an original portion. But at the end of the day - these two snuses provide drastically different tastes and experiences. I give AG Snus props for making a new product that is pretty unique. I couldn't find a comparison between Jägarpris and anything else, and with Blue Ocean the only thing I could think of was Lucky Strike Nites. So the fact that it's hard to draw comparisons between these two and any other existing snus products shows potential - that AG Snus isn't afraid to push boundaries or try to bring new flavors to the market. Their first offerings didn't go with the traditional snus profile and include bergamot, which is pretty interesting and ballsy. I look forward to seeing what comes forth from this new snus line.

    ----

Anyone else got ahold of these yet? I'm curious to see what you guys think about it.

For me, this is being marketed just right. Wish I had some spare cash to try them.

I found the Blue Ocean White Portion listed at getsnus but quantity = 0.

          Nothing on Jägarpris.

          Who actually has these?

Hunt pinch eh? I like the imagery of the product. I hope it's still around when I'm in the market for snus. I'd like to try it out.

It must be the same at getsnus/northerner since the quantity slot is accessible...

Anyone have any idea of a US release date?

BuySnus has it now/will have it any day.

Northerner has it in SE warehouse, but will probably have to wait to register it with the FDA before shipping to US/PA.

Maybe Rick or Fred can shed light on that timetable.

Maybe even shed some light on snusbargain.com's non-listing(s)...

I know it is just one in a series of events that are raining on the snus world parade.

                          1. We lose Gotlands original los and some other brands.
                          2. Nothing has been listed on snusbargain yet
                          3. The VIP club is down
                          4. Rick has had a cock engraved on his razor and I don't mean a rooster

I'd love to try some of that snus, great review Chad. Regarding snusbargain and the VIP...not sure what's going on, sorry guys. I'll ask though. If Dog says the VIP is down for maintenance..then I'm sure that's whats going on.
