Check out this auction on ebay for snus.

I have never heard of this brand but the tin looks very old. It also says it is made in Illinois. I thought snus was a fairly new thing in America.

I remember reading articles about the history of snus and it mentioned it was made on a small scale for Swedish immigrants to the US. That might of been one of the brands.

Stands to reason. There was a Swedish presence in Illinois very early on:
History of the Swedish Immigration to Rockford, Illinois

1852: First train of Swedish immigrants arrived in Rockford on Aug. 4, 1852. They arrived here by chance because the conductor of the train had heard of the cholera epidemic in Chicago and he had instructions to go as far as he could with the train, and therefore, ended up in Rockford.

They were one of the last american companies to supply swedish snus, a few years later Skoal was released.

Makes you wonder if we actually made real snus at one time.

I probably would have placed a bid if they were in better shape but they look a bit rough.

I have one of those tins already. Also the seller want to charge 30 bucks to ship that tin to the UK.

Yes, but if it was in usable shape it would be cool. I have seen tobacco tins in much better shape than that before that were just as old.

to be fair a real snuff box is usually made from wood or tin, these are snus cans, make from a tin lid and wax lined fibreboard. My can its identical to the ones in the pictures I was grateful to receive it, it was a gift from a tobacco enthusiast from NC. it still has some wax inside it. smells a bit fusty but it nice to own a bit of the history from America's introduction to dip, as it was this kind of tobacco product that was followed soon after by Skoal and Copenhagen.

Let us know if you find anything about the history of that brand. I think Eric has it nailed when he says it was made for Swedish immigrants.
