Should Snus be Marketed as a Miracle Diet Pill?

OK, the thread title is just a joke, but I've noticed that my appetite tends to suppress rather profoundly when I snus, much more so than when I smoked.

Is this common? Is it the norm? Or is it just me? Does your normal appetite return once you become a more experienced snuser? (I've been snusing instead of smoking for a couple of months now.) Not that I have any desire or need to eat less or lose weight. I tend to be, if anything, chronically underweight.

But I am curious about this.

I think I'm getting some of this effect, since there's a tendency to put off eating until after my pris is done (eating with a pris in is really gross, because the food gets into the tobacco). Since nicotine is a stimulant, I won't feel hungry again until it's time for more snus, and then I'll put it off again...

Swallow saliva all day and your appetite will be suppressed.

That's a great side effect of snusing!

Yeah, today's my 9th day snusing (and 9th day not smoking) in that time I've already lost about 3 pounds...

Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to hide the bodies of the people I killed because they were annoying......

I've been wrong lots of times.  Lots of times I've thought I was wrong only to find out that I was right in the beginning.

I just became a snusare recently, but today I had a huge juicy hamburger with pepper jack cheese on it in front of me and just thought, "meh. I'm not really hungry." I blame it on the snus.

But for those that were worried, the cheeseburger did get eaten

I think that's the Swedish word for a snuser.
I know that folks who drive those beautiful, matte-black painted, ancient, ratted-out American cars are called raggare, so perhaps the *are suffix might be semi-universal.

Just go here --> http://images.google.com/ and type "raggare" and you'll see.

Thanks! I did google the word around a bit, but couldn't find a definitive Swedish translation.

At any rate, I think we should anglicize and adopt it, as the English-speaking world always does when our language doesn't quite have the perfect word. Snusare. Sounds way better than snuser or snus-user.

Just don't anglicize the pronunciation, use the original.
                    "SNOOS-ah-reh".
                    Not "snoos-AIR" or "snoos-air-Y".

After a severe motorbike accident last October I had been off work for some months and just started working again three weeks ago. Several people at work have since told me that I lost some weight and look better than in October (although I never considered myself to be on the chubby side at all). I never measure my weight so I cannot compare facts and have to believe that what my co-workers say is true.
I had no clue about how I could have lost some weight (sitting around at home instead of working does usually *not* reduce weight). But maybe that's really a side effect of snus because I started snusing just a few weeks after I got out of the hospital...

Sorry, but from reading several Swedish texts, I thinkt that "snusare" is plural.

                        I'm a "snusar"
                        We are "snusare"

Apart from that I still prefer to say "snuser" and "snusers".

                        Cheers!

I'm sorry too, but I think you are wrong.
"Snusare" is not in my dictionary but it's built the same way as the Swedish word "knarkare" (drug addict), which is in the dictionary and stands for both, singular and plural.
Both words take the infinitife verb ("snusa" / "knarka") and add "-are" to turn it into a noun. We can thus assume that "snusare" is also both, singular and plural.

Also, google gives us a slight hint on this:
2 results for "jag är snusar"
84 results for "jag är snusare" ("I'm a snuser")

After reading the Swedish Wikipedia-article about snus, I guess you're right. They write "en snusare" (a snuser) and "alla snusare" (all snusers) . It indeed appears to be singular and plural. Same as in German "Snuser". Snusare has nonetheless a bad sound to me, though I'm sure, that the Swedes pronounce it a bit more melodic than I do.

                            Cheers!
