    General Onyx Review

Yeah, so I bought a tin of Onyx due to the unique packaging and claim that it's the "ultimate" snus for the "descriminating" user, or whatever the site said. And for the very first time, I don't think I can finish a tin of snus.....

This stuff is W A Y too peppery. Almost a morbid sting of black pepper attacks the palate, with an intolerable and undesireable burn as it runs. Honestly, this is not what a good snus should be, in my opinion. I mean, I can dig a peppery or spicey snus, but this is over the top, and to the point of being extreme for extreme's sake.

Maybe it's just me.......... i don't know, but I don't think i'll be back to this one again. I'm seriously debating whether or not to toss it out, and go with something else, as I don't see a temporary change of flavor bringing me back to wanting what Onyx has to offer.

Thoughts? Anybody else feel the same way? Differently?

    Cheers,

    Erik

I'm a little surprised at your conclusion. If there were complaints, I would have expected them concerning the lemon flavor. Onyx has a strong taste, but I don't find it too peppery. Keep in mind that it's a strong portion, equal to the nicotine in Skruf Stark. That might be where some of the burn is coming from. In any case, I wouldn't throw it out. Stick it in the fridge, and revisit it on occasion. You may like it better in the future, and if you leave it in the fridge long enough, it'll lose some of it's flavor :^P

I liked Onyx, it isn't one I want to use everyday, but I do like it. I am surprised as well that you found the Onyx too peppery, I have tried several different snuses that I felt were allot more peppery than Onyx. To each his own Other than lxskllr's suggestion that you leave it in the fridge for a while, I wonder if you got a can from a bad batch? I am curious if any one else had the overwhelming peppery experience with the Onyx.

Still if I had a snus I couldn't stand, I would rather it be one of the more expensive brands than a cheep one, so in a way I am envious. I have been trying to try all of the different brands/flavors, so in many ways the Onyx is a distant memory right now other than remembering I liked it and I do remember a citrus flavor. I also liked the packaging that was the only snus I have tried where all the portions were arranged in a circle rather than being clumped in the can and stuck together.

if you thought Onyx was too peppery, then you'll definitely not like Goteborgs Rape, if you haven't tried it.
if you have and like it, then I'd be really confused on saying Onyx is really peppery, since I find GR to be extremely peppery (but I still like it).
personally I love Onyx because of it's sharp aroma/taste.
the portion bag material is also nice on the gums. it basically takes the subtle qualities of General and amps them up, which I like a lot.
sometimes though I'm not in the mood for Onyx, but much like I'm not in the mood for some of my favorite bands.

I concur about the citrus, lemon flavor being a bit strong, and don't notice an overwhelming pepper either. But it's not going to be a keeper for me, either. Nothing terrible about it, but the citrus is too much for me to use regularly.

It does have a nice kick, and I really like the container. I've made a crude divider with one. It holds, but it's not the greatest. I have a friend who's much better than me at tool crafting, and am going to enlist him to make something more professional.

What's showing is a couple of Wise 6mg, LD minis, N&J, and the black pouches are the Onyx.

Nice idea Asquar. It would be good to do this with a metal can or perhaps the icetool tin

I've got one in right now. It was sure neat to open the tin and see that nice, precision, tightly packed curl of portions.

I don't notice the pepper to be any stronger than other brands I've had, less so actually. The lemon flavor is simple and clear, but very mild. I've got it in the left side, and its making my left nostril tingle. First time that's ever happened. Not much of a review, but I like it.

Goteborgs Rapes flavor to me is like tasting a 4,000 year old mummy’s dust that’s been stuffed with herbs, spices & flowers. With that said Onyx has a similar taste to it. Imo it’s quite nice!

Yeah, I sure wish they'd extend this packing technology to their other brands, my wife's reaction at seeing my first can of swedish snus opened up with all those messy brown portions crammed in the tin was quite the site to behold (she still doesn't like the smell of the non/lightly flavored varieties).

Never thought I would find the taste of the dust from a 4,000 year old mummy appealing, but if they taste like Goteborgs Rapes and Onyx, time to buy a ticket to Egypt

                      I can see it now...

                      "Who you got in?"

                      "Imhotep."

                      "Really? I prefer Ramses"

"Man this tut is off the hook!"
